All time best Saturn shooter? Battle Garegga!

I dont know how many of you have played Battle Garegga in either it's original arcade form or the Sega Saturn version...

I've been playing the Saturn version for the last 3 weeks or so, and it is, IMO the BEST shooter on the system.

Yes, BETTER than Radiant Silvergun.

It is F'ckn amazing.

Awesome 2d-bliss graphics, RELENTLESS speed, crisp, frenetic gameplay.....

Rediculously detailed bosses...

NO SLOWDOWN!

I can't say enough about this game.

I'd say that my top five Saturn shoters list goes like this now:

1) Battle Garegga!
2) Radiant Silvergun
3) Soukyugurentai
4) DoDonpatchi
5) Batsugun

I agree, NeoBuyer, Battle Garegga is damn impressive. I have it for the Saturn. I need to get Radiant SilverGun so I can do an in-depth comparison, though. For scientific purposes only, you understand. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

In no order, the all time best Saturn shooters in my opinion are:

*Soukyugurentai (Raizing's best game)
*Layer Section
*Battle Garegga
*Darius Gaiden (Good, even if the Taito F3 system version is a step better)
*ThunderForce V (While not quite as good as TFIV, it's still nice)

And now, some games I wish would've been ported to Saturn-
*Armed Police Batrider
*Battle Bakraid
*Darius I (It would've been nice for them to put this on the disc with Darius II to make a Deluxe Pack of it)
*ESPRa.De.
*Twin Eagle II
*Nebulasray (Although it would've more likely gone to PlayStation, if it did appear)

I couldn't agree more about Battle Bakraid.

I also wish that 'Dimahoo' (AKA Great Mahou Densetsu) would finally make it to the Dreamcast.

I agree, Battle Garegga is an awesome game. No doubt about it.

But I'd have to add Shienryu in to that list of shooters, it is incredible!! Very similar to the Raiden series, with flying debris all over and fantastic backgrounds and enemy sprites.

My favorite shooters for Saturn, in no particular order:

Battle Garegga
Shienryu
Batsugun
Kyukyoku Tiger II Plus
Donpachi and DoDonpachi
Radiant Silvergun
Soukyugurentai
Strikers 1945 I and II

BTW, it is a shame that more shooters weren't ported to the Saturn. Like Battle Bakraid (which I picked up recently as the arcade PCB), the Raiden Fighters games, Truxton II . . . but I guess we were lucky to get what we did, the Saturn is the KING of 2D shooters!!! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Does anyone else prefer Donpachi to it's sequel, Dodonpachi? I know a few people who do.

And BG is awesome, I kind of regret selling mine... but I played it sooooo much I was beginning to get bored.

And I love Shienryu, it doesn't get enough credit I think.

I will have to agree with the orginal sentiment. Garegga is really great. I liked it enough, that I too, got the JAMMA pcb of Battle Bakraid. IMO Silvergun is really pretty weak. It is pretty, but slow and too technical for my tastes. Very overrated. Don't believe the hype. It's all Garegga.

Shienryu is probably #1 on my want list right now. I have heard alot of good things about this one.

My #2 most wanted is Sengoku Blade (Ace II)... The screenshots of this one look very cool.
