Hey does anybody here know much about this import Dracula X game for the Saturn aka SotN?

I just traded for this game and when the game came out I remeber reading somewhere it had more stuff than the PSX version?

I have the PSX version as well and beat it along time ago and was just wondering what if anything is different from the 2 versions?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.....

I didn't play it much but I believe that Maria and Richter are playable from the beginning. Maria is an extra character that came from the PCEngine version of DraculaX, although in this version she's an adult. wink

i suggest you stay away from it.

while it does have the extra characters, they arent much worth it, and it has an extra area, but its small anyhow.

its also in japanese soyou have no idea what you're doing in terms of items.

but thats not all bad, the real reason is it looks like crap. it will make you loose faith in your saturn. the psx version looks wayyy better, its sad. the satty one has blocky mesh 'transparencies' (for fucks sake, dont developers know it can fucking do real transparencies!!!) and theres tons of slowdown.

You can play as Richter or Maria at the beginning of the game instead of teh PSX version where you have to complete the game then you can play as Richter. Also too, there is a debate on that the Saturn version suffers from worse load times then the PSX version. Not sure what else there is.

Thanks for your replies Highlander and Sonic. I am just a real Castlevania nut so I dont mind owning both versions even if there is only slight differences.

It is one of those series of games I like to own all versions of, good or bad....LOL.

Thats wierd that the Saturn would have slow down worse than the PSX? I always considered the Saturn a much better 2D machine.

well, from the rumor mill (now just a rumor  ) Konami was working on both but somehow was more dedicated to the PSX version because of teh pull sony at the time had on the market. They did alot more work on the PSX version which in my eyes is a less superior system then the saturn. They could of made a really great game if they dedicated more time to the saturn version. Oh well, I guess well never know for sure.

too true

Only good thing about the Saturn version is that you can listen all the music tracks in option mode.

Stay away from Saturn version

It's true that the PSX version has the edge graphics wise. The saturn version suffers from pixelation, and tremendous slowdown at times. Also, the "transparencies" are the classic saturn "mesh fence" look. Dracula X was not optimized for Saturn's hardware, and it shows. If Konami really put the time in, the saturn version would be running circles around the PSX version.

I own both versions, and it is really hard to say which I enjoy more. Pluses on the Saturn side:The addition of Maria and Richter, (Plus, alternate Richter with the cape and long sleeves)as well as the two "lost" areas, Underground Garden, and the Graveyard. Even better, Alucard has a Dash and you can even quick key the shoulder buttons for easy access to potions.

The Saturn version really breaks my heart, because it could have, and SHOULD have been the superior version.

The Saturn version looks just fine save for the transparencies, and that's a hardware issue anyway. There are two new areas, not one. There are also several new tracks, two of which are spectacular. The music test in the main menu is another plus.

waaaaaaaaaaa

transparencies ARE NOT a hardware issue.

the fucking BIOS has transparencies in 2d.

fucking megamanx4 has em, sonic jam has em.

FOR FUCKS SAKE SONIC 3D BLAST HAS TRANSPARENT POLYGONS IN THE LAST 2 SPECIAL STAGES!!!

as you can see saturn transparencies are a touchy subject for me.

Actually they are 6 new songs on the Saturn Version, or should I say extra not found on the PSX version.

I guess so. I had read that it was a hardware issue. Oh well... I'm still happy with the Saturn version.

saturn version is a hell of a lot better than the psx version. i mean with the two new areas (haunted prison, and secret garden) and the new weapons, plus the new familiars, and armors. it's leaps and bounds over that playstation trash.

No way dude. The PSX version is fucking golden, a pinnacle of 2D gaming and while the extras are nice, if you fuck with what made the original so great (silky smooth, amazing graphics, zero loading/slodown) you fuck with the game itself.

1) There are 2 new stages a prison and a garden greenhouse stage.

2) Maria is playable and there are 2 versions of Richter to play as. One from Dracula X and the evil one that you fight at the end of the first castle.

3) All secret charaters are playable from the begining.

4) A complete sound test which makes no needs to buy the Japanese soundtrack.

Negtives

1) One the first stage of the game were you meet the blood zombie the blood gets blockly as in the PSX version it didn't.

2) When you go from one section of the castle if you don't stay in the hallway long enough you will get a now loading screen. But the load times are only about 2 seconds longer than the PSX version you won't even notice it.

My addvise it to buy it.

man the saturn version is, was, and always will be better. what's the maximum castle percentage you can get on the psx??? 200.01% saturn 203.05% or something along those lines. plus the japanese voices are way cooler. when you fight dracula at the beginning of the game he's an actual challenge. plus when you get the alucard katana(or whatever it's called) you are unstoppable. that aint in the psx version. ohh slowdown on saturn, ohh load times well fuck that, nobody cares about that trash. cause once you play both versions of it you'll see which one is better, and despite the few flaws the saturn version is the winner.

Pal, I have both versions and I know which one is better. Most of time Saturn version is better than PSX (DOA, Street Fighter Alpha series, Striker 1945 series, Dodonpachi series, etc) but not with Castlevania.

Those two new characters can't carry any item at all and what's so special about them? Nothing.

203.05%? So what? Does those extra 1% makes a big different of gameplay? Not really.

This time PSX wins over Saturn.

well to me the saturn version is better i bought it because i had seen all sotn had to offer on the psx. and at first i was turned off by the same quest, but it soon became totally fun i was sucked into it. it was just all the more fun going around. and trying to remember where everything is in the castle; without having that much of a knowledge of japanese. then i began to collect weapons i didn't know existed, and it was all the more fun. my only problem with the saturn version is that i can't find the sword card anywhere in the castle upside-down or rightside-up.
