What is the best RPG you have ever played in your life and Why? And do you think that the company/companies who created it should make a remake of that game?

The best RPG I've ever played in my life is either Lunar: The Silver Star for Sega CD(also for the Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn(Both Japan Only), PS as Lunar:SSSC with storyline change, and now for the GBA as Lunar Legends with somewhat direct translations, which I want to play) or Lunar: Eternal Blue for Sega CD(also for the Sega Saturn, and PS as Lunar 2: Eternal Blue with storyline differences, which I haven't played yet) because of the storylines, the memorable characters they both have, and the battle system is the best system I have fun with.

I think that Game Arts should remake them for either the PS2 or the GC with 2D or 2.5D graphics, storyline differences and as a bonus, graphical remakes of the previous versions of the games, and when it releases them to here in North America, Working Designs should put their usual funny humor, great dubbing, and lyric changes into the games and Ubi Soft should do the translated versions of the games along with the original Japanese dubbing by adding subtitles to the movies and lyrics of the theme songs of both games.

I picked up the PSX versions but haven't gone through them yet. How do they compare with the Sega system originals?

According to GI, either the PSX or Sega CD is fine but GBA wasn't up to snuff because of sound and storyline issues.

To answer your question, best RPG I've ever played is Destiny of an Emperor for the NES, although if the PC Star Control 2 full game counts as an RPG, I have to change my answer.

When comparing the Sega CD and PS versions of Lunar: The Silver Star together, they're both great but with a lot of differences, like boss changes, storyline changes, added characters, the Dragon Equipment location changes, added bromides and added more voices in the PS version. I can tell you all of the differences in both versions but first I want to know how far have you gone in the PS version since I don't want to spoil it for you or purchase the official strategy guide since it tells you the differences as well but it's also a spoiler. For Eternal Blue, I don't know the differences since I haven't played the PS version of Eternal Blue. I'll also try to buy and play Lunar Legend no matter what the magazines say about the GBA remake.

hard to choose one. each game I've played has it's special place in my heart. I'm going to mention the RPGs that I can remeber:

FF 6
FF 7
FF 9
dragon warrior 7
Zelda: LttP
shining force 1&2 (haven't played the other episodes)
vandal heart 1 (for the stratigies and story)
dragon force (RPG ?)
Suikoden 2

remakes ?

- I hope DW4 will be released at the US

- since sega is developing some classiscs on PS2, I hope the whole shining force series will be remade plus dragon force 1&2 and all the Jap-only games

- maybe, there should be a FF6 remake

- I hope square will re-release all the jap-only RPGs on the SNES. this time on the PS2 and/or GC (secret of mana 3 for example)

Fuck anyone that says Lunar Legends on the GBA was bad. There are several smaller story changes and some bigger ones, but the game is in tact, the battles are basically the same and it's.... a FUCKING GREAT GAME! It's the only GBA game I've ever taken the time to complete (it's too damn dark for my eyes!!)

I've played EVERY version of Lunar: SSS and Lunar: EB. I want to go back through both using the strategy guides I have to try and get everything.

The greatest RPG I've ever played though, would have to be Skies of Arcadia on the DC. I played that game for almost 60 hours and when I completed it I was disappointed that it was over. I never did get all the discoveries. I only ever ran from 2 battles, both of which were bathroom related incidents :) (I had to GO, if you know what I mean). Quite an impressive feat, considering the shear amount of random battles in that game. The best part is that Skies of Arcadia Legends comes out this coming week here in the US and I'm prepared to be addicted all over again.

Skies of Arcadia had some of the greatest music I've ever heard in an RPG, so much so that I actually spent $80 back when the Eternal Arcadia soundtrack was damn near impossible to find.

If you've never played it, you definitely owe it to yourself to check it out.

I'll quickly give out my favorites:

Final Fantasy 4,5,6, and 7
FF Tactics
Shining Force 2
Phantasy Star 2/4/Online
Everquest (not sure if this would count)
Earthbound SNES
Chrono Trigger
Xenogears
Skies of Arcadia (GREAT RPG that gets overlooked)

These are the ones I love to death. There's more that I've played. A lot more, but these are the ones that are just super sweet.

FF7 is my all time fave, because it was the most atmospheric game I'd ever played. It seriously felt like I lived on that planet. So god damned beautiful.

Then, Zelda: A link to the past. Yeah, its hardly an RPG. But it is...kind of...er something...right? A great game nonetheless.

Best RPG that's easy, there's this old Hentai PC game pre-Pentium called COBRA MISSION where you play this Private Detective who goes back home to help this down on her luck friend, and get to walk around town doing various jobs... get's to play Happosai (Panty raiding) in ppl's apartments... and around town you beat up thugs in turn-based fights with whips, your fists, a .357 Magnum etc along with gettin' it on with the ladies. The inteface was cheezy but I liked the game overall. I have a strange feeling the game was probably "City Hunter: The RPG" in Japan for the PC but had it's name changed the same way Dragon Knight III did to Knights of Xentar. Anyhow it's not a monumental RPG by any stretch of the imagination, but it's the one I had the most fun playing for both hentai and non-hentai reasons.

Just my 2 Cents.

Planescape: Torment
You play a man who is searching for his mortality, has an awesome storyline. You can still find it in stores for like 10 bucks, PC released '99. If you want to try something different from console RPGs I suggest getting this game.

Dragon Warrior III, NES (NOT GBC)

Difficult, long, and a great party system. The story was simple but suited the game just fine. I don't tend to like story based RPGs much. I'd rather spend most of the time planning out my party and trying to find a way through the next dungeon.

Tough call... my all time favorite would probably be Grandia II for the Sega Dreamcast. Good story, believable character development, and the best battle system, bar none, I've ever found in a RPG.

Other titles I've really enjoyed were Phantasy Star III, Cosmic Fantasy, Fantasy Star II, Albert Odessey, and the Y's titles.

Also, extra special mention goes to Exile, for the Turbo Duo. One of the best role playing experiences ever, that unfortunately suffered from being EXTREMELY short - I beat it the same day I bought it (only about 6-8 hours of play time).

Shit, here are some phat RPGs:

Chrono Trigger - This would probably be the undisputed best RPG if it were longer. Great characters and story none the less.

Vandal Hearts - Awesome battle system and story. I remember playing this for days when it first came out. I haven't played the sequel, but from what I've heard it's nothing to write home about.

Suikoden - Another awesome game with tons of characters to get and secrets to unlock. I really wish I got to play the sequel :(

Secret of Evermore - I love the spell system in this game in that you have to have certain ingredients to cast them. Was a great and most often overlooked effort from Square USA, even with all the bugs.

Chrono Cross - Kind of like Suikoden in that you can recruit a crap load of characters, and you can play through the game and it be different several times. Not to mention that I stand firmly by my opinion in that this game has the best music I've ever heard.

Super Mario RPG - Man it's been so long since I've played this, but I remember distinctly loving this game. With all the big bright characters and the battle system.. man I should really download this :D

Of course I could go on and on with all the good rpgs out there. Just about every one of them has a good quality that makes it worth playing in some aspect.

DAMN! I had forgotten about this gem! This game truely lived up to it's name, as it tormented me at work while I couldn't play. All I could think about at work was Torment and all I did with my free time was play Torment. I remember getting it before Y2K and thinking I had to complete it before the elctricity went out... I was playing it at 12:00 when Y2K hit and I was right at the end... I played for another hour and had to get some sleep. The next day I completed it in 45 minutes. Best fucking PC RPG ever!

Everyone should check this game out as well.

One other shining gem that addicted me like a motherfucker... Dragon Force on the Saturn. Get up at 7 AM, play until 12:30, mom watched TV 'til 1:30, when she was finished with the TV I would play Dragon Force until sometimes 2 AM, get up the next morning and do the same thing. I need to complete it with 2 more generals before I am totally finished with it... Maybe I'll go back to it sometime soon...

There is no doubt in my mind that Valkyrie Profile for the PSX is not only the best RPG I've ever played, but probably the best game I've ever played.

- The graphics in this game are drop-dead gorgeous. The lush, hand-painted backgrounds look better than anything I have ever seen in a game. The characters are well animated, and the portraits for all of them are nothing short of artistic brilliance. This game singlehandedly made me throw all of my concerns of the PSX's ability to do 2D out the window. If you're a fan of hand-drawn graphics of this style, you owe it to yourself to play this game.

- This game easily has the best music I have ever heard. Motoi Sakaruba's 71-track soundtrack is nothing but musical genious throughout. It charges the game with energy in the dungeon and battle scenes, and fills the atmosphere with the dread, uncertainty, and mysticism that surround the game during the many cutscenes. The voices are also very well done, and there are a myraid of them.

- The battle system makes everything else I have played look like child's play. It's fast, original, fun, and involves much more than hitting the same button over and over again. There's a nearly endless amount of ways to fight. If you want to, you can launch all four of your characters to attack at once. You build up energy for finishing strikes by doing combo attacks, and even those can be linked!

- This game is like nothing else. Traversing through the dungeons is done similarly to traveling through the exploration-based Castlevania games, with the battles taking place in a 3/4 view when contact is made with an enemy. You can keep the characters you like as long as you want to. If you do send them away to Ragnarok, you are periodically filled in on their accomplishments as an Einharjar. You can skip dungeons or return to the ones you've already finished. The game is wide open to play as you want, but your play will determine which of the three endings you witness.

I could go on...

*CHANELLING THE SPIRIT OF REV330MEGA*

OH NO! I may not post here but I'll be dammed if I let
someone get away with not mentioning Comsmic Fantasy
2!

Yeah it's old but it was great for it's time. Old
school cinemas that made the Turbo great. It's
basically two RPG's in one. And long before your
precious Sepheroth (or whatever the Hell is name is)
became famous, Van's girl died before. I will mention
it was from natural causes though. The story was
basic, Badguy steals girl wants to rule the world. You
confront him and Galam (the villian) sends you twenty
years into the future where he rules all.

Now the story takes a twist and you control Babbette,
a Space cadet in the Cosmic Hunters (I think, it's
been awhile). She investigates some intergalactic
pirates on your home planet and meets up with Van.
They both go after the pirates and Galam, Van
discovers his girl has passed away :D :D :D

In the final epic battle you face Galam. Then like all
epic battles he transforms into GALAMZILLA!!! RESPECT
IS DEMANDED! My all time fave RPG! The only cheap
thing about it was getting full health every time you
gained a level. It's a classic and anybody who owns a
Turbo or a Duo should have it. Working Designs still
sells this gem, so head on over to their site and
order a copy. Oh yeah, the American cover sucks as
well.
