Here's my problem. Today I was messing around trying to learn Hwoarang's fox step in Tekken Tag on my american PS2. I got pretty adept at it so i decided to see if i could expand on it on tekken 4. I go in the Den to get my japanese PS2 with tekken 4 and i bring it in my room. I switch my AV cables and i accidentially drop my jap PS2 BUT hold on, that wasn't he problem cuz my PS2 hardly fell far at all becuase i was crouched down when i was holding it. Then after hook up my Jap PS2 it won't turn on. Immediately I begin to think that it was cuz i dropped it but it wasn't far that it fell. I then turn the power on and off a couple times and i hear a slight pop but i thought nothing of it. I thought maybe my surge protecter messed up so i took it back into the den and then i plugged it up and turn it on and !!POW!! a big spark shot out of my power wire. I looked at the wire and it had a tear in it. Now my brother took the Japanese PS2 out of my room and him and his friend were last seen with it. I wanna know how it got that way. He says he doesn't know what happened.

The bigger problem is i can't find an online store that sells Japanese power cord wires. We use the same power as japan but the part of the wire that connects to the PS2 is shaped slightly different in japanese and north american PS2's.

What the hell can i do?

I'm pissed. real pissed.

how is the power cord different?
Is it just round on both ends? as opposed to square/round?

If so, you can pick those cords up anywhere.
But chances are my friend, you shorted the system out as well. I've seen systems get shorted out because of a slight tear in the power cord, let alone a spark.

Its round on both ends. But are you saying that if its round on both ends i can pick it up anywhere or if its Square/round i can pick it up anywhere? I hope i can pick up a wire thats round on both ends anywhere. Please Lord let it be so. I don't wanna have to spend more cash on another japanese PS2.

The xbox happens to use the round on both ends cord; if you cant find any locally i could mail you one, my store sells them for 6.99$

Unfortunately, what I usually see is a mom/dad bringing a PSONE/DC into my store for repair after the dog chewed through the chord and the system or the controllers blew a fuse. Hopefully it ends up not being that bad... but a spark?!

are like power cords for certain systems universal or something? Cuz i'd be pissed if I bought it and the mofo wouldn't fit or didn't work. Also i'm hoping it didn't short the whole system. If it did i'm going to be alot more pissed than i am now.

The power cords are universal/will work on any system. We use them for Jap DC's, US Dc's, PS2's, Xbox's, PSX's, etc...

For instance Japanese DC uses that 2Rounded plug. If I use that 2rounded plug on my american Dreamcast....no problem either.

Good luck Spin... Sorry to hear about this tragedy, and YES the XBOX does have 2 round ends on the North American Model.

That spark most likely roasted your ps2 psu. If thats the case you can get a replacement. My S-Gun had a wire cross and it sparked a small explosion. I had to replace the whole power supply within the damn s gun itself. Electrical explosions have this fuckin smell like no other.

Also sniff the back of the ps2 and see if it has a putrid electric burn smell. If it does not you are lucky, if it does the supply is probably toasted.

lol, something like that happened to me the other day. Somehow a safety pin managed to get around the two prongs on my printer cord. I plugged it in, BAM!. Big spark, spike bar shut off. There is still a black mark where it happened.
