I went to buy DOAX and Resident Evil 0 tonight, well to my shock I was carded for both (first time in forever), the clerk who looked 16, refused to sell me the game. I had to drive home and get my ID, when I came back he looked like a huge idiot. I asked what the big deal was, he said the Gamestop line of stores will fire employees if they get caught not carding anyone who doesn't look 25 and up. So unless you look like Ogre from revenge of the nerds, bring your ID.

When he saw DOAX was one of the games I wanted, he had a look on his face like "oh shit not again..." and he went on to tell me, you know this game has nudity, sexually suggestive scenes ect. ect., I was like no it doesn't, but I think I can handle it. The sad part is I don't think he was old enough to buy it period.

After I got it I stayed in the store for a few mins, and some poor kid and his parents were in the store, his dad gave him the money to get a game, well it was DOAX, the kid said "thats my parents, they know", but the clerk had to be an ass, and called his parents over, gave them the sex and nudity speech, the mom actually looked shocked, and the dad was like "he's seen worse on cable", he ended up getting the game, but you could tell the mom was like "so this is what's going on???". It was funny.

That's some funny stuff...

But why didn't you have your ID? I mean, don't you carry your license with you? Not trying to be a dick.... I just have that shit on me all the time if I go out no matter what.

I work at a privately owned store...I wonder if I need to start doing this?

My boss/friend has told me of $2,000 fines for selling M games to minors; but I never card or bother asking how old they are.

I'm more surprised you admitted buying a Gamecube game! eek! eek!

I actually never drive with my license. If I get caught I'll be fucked I know, but I always forget it, I hate to carry a wallet, I just throw some money in my pocket.

Dude the fines thing is BS, the ESRB ratings are not law in any states AFAIK, I was talking to this other guy about it, chain stores like EB just don't want a bad image if parents know they sell shit to young kids rated M.

Like you don't even have to get your game rated I don't think, just places like wal-mart won't stock it.

There has been no laws about videogames made, the ESRB is not enforced by any states.

The funny part is if you go out to buy some fucking beer or something from 7-11, they NEVER card you...

If you work in a liquor store you can face getting arrested for selling to minors. I know the store I worked in for a while had a sting ran by the cops on it and the manager of all people got taken away by them when he failed to ask for id from some one they sent in that was underage.
As far as the ESRP rating it was a voluntary measure by the game manufactures to keep the government from regulating them. I believe! It has never really been inforced by anyone until lately when all the attention to games like DOAX and GTA3. They were originally relying on parents to actually pay attention to what they were buying for their children. Obviously that doesn't work.

My EB has been carding for the last year or so, but they know me by now, so they don't bother asking me for it anymore.
