Another great small game company bites the dust.
Compile, makers of the famed shooters Blazing Lazers (Gunhed), Aleste series, and most recently Zanac X Zanac closed their doors today.
Apparently Sega now holds the rights to the Puyo Puyo series. This is of little consolation to those of us who worshipped their awesome, unheralded shooter library...games that always surpassed the expectations of whatever console they resided upon. In memory of a great, yet underappreciated game maker, here's my personal COmpile Top 5:
1. MUSHA Aleste/MUSHA (Gen/MD)
2. Super Aleste/Space Megaforce (SNES/SF)
3. Zanac X Zanac (PS)
4. Blazing Lazers/Gunhed (TG/PCE)
5. Spriggan (DUO)
Another nail in the coffin for traditional 2D import gaming.
