What do you guys think of these games? Are they as good as the classics? I've read mixed reviews, especially for Shinobi.

Contra "SS" does a much better job of staying true to it's roots, though Super Contra (Arcade) is still the best IMO. Shinobi on the other hand, I'm glad SEGA decided to resurrect the franchise but I didn't go for the psuedo-Strider Hiryu 2 route it took, nor did it need to be in 3-D. I won't call *Shinobi* a bad game however as it's enjoyable within it's own merits I just didn't feel it is all... I'm hoping Ninja Gaiden doesn't go this route as well on the XBOX. Both are worth buying however.

Well there's good news and bad news on that MegaDrive, if you didn't like DOA's engine then unfortunately it seems that is what team ninja is using for the new Ninja Gaiden. If you loved it then you have no worries, well except for Ryu's new "flamboyant" outfit.

As for shinobi, well after Shinobi Legions/X they had(it's what they thought) pushed a 2d shinobi as far as it could go. I love 2d wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy more then 3d but good gowd did Sega do a damn good job at pulling off a 3d Shinobi. Hell it was Shinobi that made me pull my ps2 out of exile

I actually liked the D.O.A. 3 engine except for that retarded end Boss battle with the odd camera angles. I'm pumped about "Ninja Gaiden" but I will say that I don't like Ryu's outfit, I'm just hoping it picks up where Ancient Ship of Doom left off. As for PS2 Shinobi... Hey I like the game and see you're point, they DID do a good job with the transition and is worlds better than that Sentai 2D *Shin Shinobi Den* for the Saturn... but I dunno, personally I just felt Hotsuma was too much a mixture of Musashi from Super Shinobi II and Capcom's bastardized re-tweaking of Strider Hiryu from part 2 with that long flowing scarf and stuff. I'm not saying I hate the PS2 shinobi it just didn't rock my world the way I wished it had, maybe the next one will give me a gaming orgasm or something. Still bought the game though and it was worth every penny.

Cool, the DOA 3 engine was ok but I just couldn't get into the game all that much. As for Hotsuma's scarf, during an interview the guy at overworks said it started just as a simple neck tie type thing so you wouldn't loose him duriong the shadow dash, but one of the programmers made it hella long as some type of runing gag(but never told us what the hell made it "funny"). To make a long story short the kept it, well I can understand that it didn't rock your world but it made me wet myself, but then i also liked Shinobi den so maybe I should shut up now wink wink

I agree with megadrive, contra did a better job. shinobi in the other hand is great but keep in mind that the first level (consist of 3 stages) is ...... boring? prsonal opinion

I liked the the PS2 Shinobi i thought it was pretty fun and the difficulty made it a challenge. The only thing i didn't like were those damned dogs with swords in thier mouth. I just thought that was a bit Ridiculous.

Shin Contra is one of the finest games of last year, due to excellent play, control, and its over-all old-school feeling. Plus, the music is fantastic: Mean and pissed off!

I didn't dig Shinobi that much. The play is ok, but it felt too stale. The music I thought, was horrid.

Go for Contra man!!!

Well Contra is sounding like it will be right up my alley. I remember playing Contra on the NES for hours and hours growing up and not getting past the first couple levels because it was so STINKIN HARD. Maybe I should rent Shinobi first. The mixed reviews that I read seem to be continuing here :)

Bad News It takes place after DOA3 there for:

No Irene

But that's a good thing Who want's to see Irene with size DD tits? Not me I like her Prudish look in 1-3.
It'll probably be like the orignal Arcade game which was better than the console version IMO.
