Wow I looked at all the videos and for a demo version it looks pretty nice, I like the end combo at video 5 really cool. It's a shame this would have been a really great game.

Seriously, that game looks horrid.
It's either fake, or its a 3d Max mock up that Sega used to show off what the game "would look like."

Either way, if I would've seen that, I would've cancelled it too. It looks like SHIT.

It's the latter, like the article says, if anyone bothered to read it.

Although very early, and obviously experimental, the presentation demonstrated various unique approaches to a potential new game in the series.

On behalf of Yuzo Koshiro, and for the first time anywhere, we can present brief demo videos of Streets of Rage for Dreamcast taken from that original presentation.

Bear in mind that this is not a game. Merely, a series of visual experiments by Sega Japan looking at how a next-gen Streets of Rage game could have been approached. Look out for one of the enemies, amusingly titled 'sumfucka'.

aren't they doing a streets of rage sequel for the xbox, that has online play?
The game you are thinking about is called Spike-Out extreme, a similar game but nothing to do with the SOR games whatsoever.

After watching the videos, I had no desire to read the article. There was no sort of explanation that could possibly buttress a defense of those videos.

I hope that spikeout game sees the light of day; it sounds ridiculously fun and impressive.

as said: these videos were just ideas, that's why the graphics look shit. I mean seriously , look atvideo 2 . Axel runs down the street, flying kicks some bitch in the head, proceeds to punch his mate in the gut, then smacking him round the head, then does a spinning kick ont he guy behind hime. Now imagine that souped up, 2 player co-op,with Yuzo's music kicking in the background and tell me it wouldn't have been good.

Wow, you guys are just getting this news? I saw all this about a month ago.

What makes it even more fucked up is that SOA gave the green like to shit games like Zombie Revenge and Dynamite Cop, but not SOR4. Shitheads.

I think I know why it was canned. The game looks like crap. I loved the first 2 SR games but the 3rd sucked cock. This one looks even worse.

Seriously, though, it could have been something... ;_;

Wasn't Fighting Force pitched as a clone of SOR? I think I saw pictures of what was pitched as SOR4 (allegedly being developed by Core) in EGM, but turned out to be Fighting Force.

Or maybe I was just mixing Ny-Quil and Day-Quil. :p

What you saw was something that was rumored to being pitched to SEGA as a SOR4.

I remember they were covering a Euro game show and it was something blurted out during a brief and noisy interview, I imagine.

Regardless, CORE can suck my ass as they are nothing but a one hit wonder. Much like DMA/Rockstar was with GTA 3

Thanks; I'm at least glad that I wasn't imagining things.

By the way, which "hit" are you talking about? Because Chuck Rock was fun for what it was. wink

Well, just like you are getting so hyped up... these are just mock ups and no way reflect the finished game. Your spinning, gut bash buddy team up may never have worked outside the demo. It is all just speculation... you are seeing the good, some are seeing the bad. To me, it look alright, it might have been fun, but these games are limited fun these days, beat-em-ups just don't do it for me.

A new SOR, if it is cool I am all over it, but this looked like nothing new to me... the online elements looked lame at best (I know it is a mock up, but they weren't that original). Anyway... SOA probably had good reason to can it. It is easy to sit here and say... WAAAAA I WANT IT, SOA IS LAME! But at the same time, maybe the team couldn't answer fundemental questions about how the game system would work. Maybe they couldn't convince them it was a good idea. When you work in software, you realize there are a lot of steps to go from concept to completion... and obviously these guys didn't even have enough to get it started.

Yeah, but i find that hard to believe.

They already had all the character designs, the original music composer, and the lead programmer on the team. Hell, why did they need to prove anything? SOA commisioned Dynamite Deka which is exactly the same sort of game, the walk / punch / beat down genre. These videos shown are just the ones used to help get their ideas across....they are probably 5 years old!

also: SOA; these are the same great folks that butchered the US version of Streets Of Rage 3, by removing the intro, a character, and a music track, and chagnging the colors of the characters. My AV comes from the missing intro.

so there. angry

I knew could see the reason of why they did that, the import version was fine yet they went off and did that, but then all companies at one time or another have done something to make you say wtf!?!
