From Metallica's official website:

"Rock fans rejoice! Three of the music world's greatest, most vital bands are joining forces for one of the most compelling tours in rock history, the Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003. Metallica, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park come together for this once-in-a-lifetime live extravaganza that will kick off this coming summer, with all 3 bands playing headline length sets. The 3 groups are also delivering new albums to coincide with this unprecedented juggernaut throughout the U.S. The Summer Sanitarium Tour is slated to officially begin on July 4th. Metallica's inaugural Summer Sanitarium tour - which trekked across the U.S. in a series of sold out shows in the summer of 2000 - was one of the most successful concert events of that year, and featured some of the biggest names in rock, including Metallica, Korn, Kid Rock and System Of A Down.

For Metallica, who will be delivering their first studio album in more than five years this summer, the tour will mark their first appearance on American stages since 2000's Summer Sanitarium run. With more than 85 million albums sold worldwide, and holding down gold or platinum certifications in more than 40 countries, Metallica enters their third decade at the top of their game, largely regarded as one of the most influential groups in music history. Since their inception in 1981 the group has broken countless records, garnered numerous awards including 6 Grammys and engaged in several history-charting performances, including a groundbreaking appearance with the San Francisco Symphony in 1999. Their much anticipated new disc - their 8th studio album - entitled St. Anger, will be in stores on June 10th and is their first studio release since 1997's Re-Load, which debuted at #1 in 12 countries around the world and has sold more than 12 million albums worldwide to date.

Limp Bizkit, led by multi-talented frontman Fred Durst burst on to the rock scene in 1997 with their masterpiece, Three Dollar Bill, Y'all$, and are credited with single-handedly re-invigorating the rock genre by changing the face of alternative and rock radio. Having sold 28 million albums worldwide with just 3 studio releases, their last studio album Chocolate Starfish and The Hot Dog Flavored Water, sold 13 million copies worldwide and is certified platinum in 33 countries. It is the only rock record in the history of Sound Scan to sell over 1 million copies in its first week of sales. The band's long awaited follow up, Lessismore is tentatively set to be released May of 2003.

Linkin Park became the biggest selling band of 2001 with more than 8 million albums sold for their acclaimed album Hybrid Theory. Hailed by critics and fans alike as one of rock's most important new forces, the band refuses to be pigeonholed as 'just' a rock band, describing their sound as a 'cross-section of many genres', including alternative rock, hip hop and electronic. For the past eighteen months Linkin Park has been hard at work on Meteora, their new album on Warner Bros. Records due March 25th, 2003. Produced by Don Gilmore and Linkin Park, Meteora features Linkin Park's new single 'Somewhere I Belong,' which will be released to radio in late February.

In addition, Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003 is proud to announce Deftones and Mudvayne to the line-up. Deftones are currently putting the finishing touches on their as yet untitled 4th record once again produced by Terry Date. The record will be released this June. Mudvayne, The Peoria, Illinois, quartet are supporting their second album, The End of All Things To Come following the gold success of their debut L.D. 50.. "

Just go ahead and shoot me now, I really don't want to be around to see this. oh_no

Well, with all of those crappy bands on tour at once it does raise the chances of a bus accident happening...

Here's hoping.

You can dis and say sh*t about all those otherbands all you want, but WTF is wrong with Deftones? Deftones kick ass and I for one will be gald for their 4th album and to see them live. Metalica flushed their hardcore following down the toilet with LOAD and this is nothing new. What you sheep got's against Deftones huh?

thats not a funny joke... lol... actualy it somewhat is, but...

R.I.P. Cliff....

I am totally pissed at Metallica. I have their albums from Kill em all to Load... I wish I never bought load.... :( It was such a disappointment after the Black Album.. maybe they ran out of ideas? Bless that And Justice for all Album... one of the best albums made by any band.

Why does everyone hate the Deftones and Linkin Park? Sure those Limp bizkit bitches can all trip and bust their heads wide open and Metallica hasn't been the same since the Load album but wtf!?

Linkin Park are the biggest bunch of MTV shit eaters i've ever seen.

Limp Bizkit, well Fred Durst says it all. Shotty, angst ridden swear-a-thon's for angry rebellious teens. Lame.

"Morons rejoice! Three of the music world's shittiest, most unimportant bands are joining forces for one of the most cacktacular tours in rock history, the Summer 'Your A Shithead For Buying Tickets' Tour 2003. Metallica, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park come together for this once-in-a-wasted-lifetime live extravaganza that will piss you off this coming summer, with all 3 bands playing 'to long in' length sets. The 3 groups are also delivering new albums to sell to the dumb MTV generation to coincide with this unprecedented juggernaut of shit music throughout the U.S. The 'Your Still A Shithead For Buying Tickets' Tour is slated to officially begin on July 4th. Metallica's inaugural 'not good since 1994' tour - which trekked across the U.S. in a series of sold out, 'retards only!' shows in the summer of 2000 - was one of the most successful concert events of that year, and featured some of the biggest sell out names in rock, including Metallica, Korn, Kid Rock and System Of A Down.

yes.... Korn is one of those bands that I loved from their first album.. but.. undoubtably they have sold out.. I think.

As good as it was: follow the leader was nothing like the 1st 2 albums. Then Their 4th album..... I bought, didn't listen to it enough to remember the album name.. just went down hill. Momentum stayed.. and they sucked further.

The edits above are rather funny. Too many bands sell out for $

Metallica has sucked pretty hard now for awhile. I remember listening to Load trying to justify why it sounded like complete shit. Then "Mama Said" started playing and I completely lost all respect for them. I remember the Summer Sanitarium Tour 2000 came around and my sister bought me tickets thinking I still liked them and had to go through hours upon hours of crap (Korn, Powerman 5000, System of a Down, Kid Rock, etc). I was halfway interested in seeing Metallica, only for the band members minus James to come out before their set and say they weren't gonna play because James is a complete fucking idiot and hurt himself. This only further flared my hatred for them and sold the tickets (they set another date) on ebay. Fucking bastards.

I hate to say it, but Powerman 5000 is actually somewhat good lol.... They have had a couple good songs.. followed by loads of crap.

Anyhoo.

I couldn't agree with you more on Metallica. I generally give a band 1-2 bad albums. hey, we all go through slumps, right?

Look at Megadeth.... Risk... *CRINGE* But they came partially back with the pretty good album "the world needs a hero."
*BTW... Megadeth will be back in the studio soon!!*

But Metallica has just bit the nasty sausage. Iu used to think Jason Newstead was cool too... but... then, I decided differently. Although, at least he left the bad and didn't degrade anymore.

I'd also like to say, I did think the few song's Metallica did with the orchestra was a cool deal... I did think no leaf clover (I think is the title) was decent.

From what I heard at the concert I didn't like PM5000. Then again it was a pretty big arena and you couldn't really make everything out clearly. Still, I'd rather watch paint dry than go to that concert again.

It's true about bands having to experiment. Iron Maiden did it with X-Factor and Virtual XI, Dream Theater did it with Falling Into Infinity, Megadeth did it with Risk, and Testament did it with The Gathering. The point is they all got it out of their system and went back to what they did best.

Metallica should've kept that shit on side projects, but no.. James is a bitch dictator and nobody can do side projects while they're in Metallica (the reason Jason left in the first place). They could put out another Master of Puppets and I probably still couldn't bring myself to like it.

Now wait just a fucking minute! Sure Limp Bizkit and Selloutica blow goat cock, but Linkin Park rules! They're the biggest breath of fresh air rock has inhaled since Guns N' Roses. The melodic rap/rock music they produce is incredible.

If that show stops by Detroit, I'll be there for sure. At least during Limp Bizkit's set the mosh pit will be pretty good.

Where did you get that info?!?! We need some Megadeth....bad!! Mustaine is my hero and could play circles around Hammett and Hetfield, bad arm and all.
And about Risk, I am completely convinced that that album is actually a Metallica album put out under the Megadeth name.

As you can see, some people think so and so sucks pants, and so and so rocks. Some people can't realize that some people have different tastes, so they shove there opinions down your throat...like Jacko shoves something down Maccullay Kulkin's throat shame ...

true... but in Metallica's instance... they died.

I heard something over the radio via our "rock station" that they were getting back together. Whether Dave plays guitar or not.. I a m not sure.

So, how DID he hurt his arm>? I heard he tried suicide... but that was just a rumor.

Don't get me wrong, I like Falling Into Infinity, but Images & Words is by far their best album and that came out before FII, and Scenes of a Memory came out afterwards and is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Point is that Falling Into Infinity, while being a great album on it's own, was never the less an experimental album and really wasn't as good as their other stuff. The Gathering is a great album, great death metal experimental, and I like it for the most part, but Testament sounds best to me as straight forward thrash metal.

Guns n Roses was different for me. I loved Appetite for Destruction (A LOT), but I absolutely could not stand Use Your Illusion 1&2, their live album, or the Spaghetti Incident.
