Of course Ben Hur is surperior in everything (won 11 Oscar awards) and the special effect is still amazing by today standard.
Gladiator has great music score and excellent special effects too but just pale in comparison to the old brother

Ben-Hur! Who can't forget Charlton Heston's classic line:

"get your paws off of me you damned, dirty ape!"

Ben Hur is a classic.

Gladiator was really good until the 'Braveheart' rip-off ending. They could have ended it right, but I can only guess they ran out of money... It's easier to make the hero die a tragic death than have him bring his army into Rome and kick ass...

But HEY, what about Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece SPARTACUS???????

Please watch Spartacus Silent_Scope, It is right up there with Ben Hur.

Forgot to mention:
Rome Arena battle scene in Gladiator has almost the same music score as in the sea battle in Ben Hur. No wonder ppl joke about Gladiator is Ben Hur ripped off

Ben-Hur

"Your eyes are full of hate. Good. Hate keeps a man alive." There! Now that is a line from Ben-Hur! I think....

Gladiator. I love Ridly Scotts vision, and the music fuctioned by it's contrast (love Lisa Gerard), yet still remains strong on it's own. That's not see too often in film these days.

I love Gladiator, but I gotta go with Ben-Hur on this one. It is the true definition of a classic.

I like them both.

BEN HUR is a cult movie.
=> I really like these One. I could see it once more. These Fake-Arabians and Blacks are just funny. These Make-Up-Styler made "good/bad" work. I wonder why they haven´t take real Arabians/Blacks for the cast...

GLADiATOR is quite good, but can´t get close to BEN HUR...
=> Great Backgrounds and SFX, even the cast isn´t bad IMO.

But if i had to choose, i´ll go with "BEN HUR".

It always happens in Classic Hollywood cinema.
You can always tell whether is a good/bad guy by looking at the cloth.

Fake-Arabians? How about Fake Chinese/Japanese/Asian?

Good example:

"Broken Blossom"
"Fu Man Chu"
"Charley Chen"
"Breakfast at Tifanny"

...and many more.
