Thats what they call "antiquing" in the business. Makes something that isnt old look old. Few coats of stain and a sponge and we can all have one that looks that uh, cool.

In case any one doesn't actually know, AFAIK, the yellowing occurs on some of the shells because of different qualities of plastic used... You almost never see the very top piece on plastic yellowed, but often the bulk of the top half.

You hit that nail right on the head. We get these at game stop all the time. I'm not a smoker but this happend to my old SNES when I let my wifes cuz borrow it. I got it back a year later and it looked like that.

Well, thats what probably happens if you leave it in the sun for 3 weeks....

But trying to sell it off as Rare?! Get outta here! They might have well painted the colour on!

The USA snes is a prime example of videogame companiesw being idiots wasting money, why didnt they just keep the same design as jap/euro models?

Same with PCE being redesigned as TG16.......idiots.

There was someone in chat a few weeks ago swearing up and down that all the original SNES's did this. I.E. the very first shipments sent out. Later the plastic was changed to prevent this. And the plastic was different on parts of the console, thats why it only yellows in certain areas.

It's actually a manufacturing issue. Well, sorta. Different parts of the SNES shell were manufactured at different plants. Over time some of the plastic yellows, but rarely all of it. All my friends have some weird part of their SNES turned yellow, and mine is yellow in a different place also. Kinda funky.

Exactly.

The same thing happened to mine (I got a Core system a few years after launch). I kept it out of the sun, completely away from smoke, and in a good "weather" spot, but it still yellowed on its own.

It's just cheap plastic.

LoL ..That's so outrageous.

I have bought several of these from Funcoland refurbished years ago.

I just sold one on Ebay and it sold for a decent price.
I listed it as being faded.

But I think this seller "may" actually think he has found something Rare.

I emailed the guy that was trying to sell this just to see what he would say and this is what he came up with.
quess you don't see many super nintendo systems, I have three and the colors
vary on all, this has nothing to do with cigarette smoke, it was the color of
the plastics use when they made the cases, if you want I can see you pictures
of all 4 type including the original
single color one.
thanks for the email
Frank
I'm sorry but this is just not right trying to make people think they are getting something special when its not even close to that.
