Well, i recieved my copy of DC Half Life this morning, i bought from ebay for a few quid.
Firstly: i put the disc in and it didn;t boot up. hmmmm. so i tried it with the DC-X boot cd, and again, reseted the machine. tried a third time and it loaded (really is a beta quality
)
Front end: Not to shabby, looks quite nice! No save / load game options, it's all passcodes unfortuantely. I also noticed some big intrusive black borders, yep it's a good old euro 50hz version
Starting the game: ooh, nasty load times. nowhere near as bad as DC soldier of fortune mind, but still quite annoying (about 30 seconds each load). Graphics look quite shite by today's standards, but if it had met it's original release date of Xmas 2000 it would habe blown me away . Probably.
Control scheme is pretty good, the four face buttons move/strafe, stick is used for looking, d pad up jumps, d pad down ducks, left activates your torch and right operates switchs. Right trigger shoots, left trigger + d pad changes guns. Pull bothj triggers together for Alt. Fire (DC Unreal should have done this).
Anyways, i got half (no pun intended)an hour in, and after the novelty wore off of playing the game that was never supposed to see the light of day, i concluded that it was a pretty solid game; i would have played it through if i hadn't already done so on the PC version.
Their are plenty of copies on ebay at the moment for a few quid/bucks each, or you can make your own if you've got the time and effort.
