I went to buy a 27" flat screen Advent tv last Friday. I bought it because it was ALOT cheaper than a WEGA. Anyway, the first one I brought home, took it out of the box had a huge crack in the plastic below the screen. I couldn't even press in the power button. Well, I took that one back and got another one. It seemed ok at first, but while playing xbox I noticed like wavy lines dancing all over the screen. It is worse when I watch TV. So, this one has some annoying scanning problem. I'm fed up, I'm hauling this POS back to the store today and getting a PS2 or Gamecube. My older 25" tv will be fine.

There is a reason Advent TV's are cheap. They are pieces of shit.

You get what you pay for.

Possibly the only company I can think of who offers cheaper flat screens and are still rather nice are Samsung TV sets.

Cheaper than Sony and Panasonic, but a beautiful screen nonetheless.

Samsung makes a good product imo. I hope Apex brand holds up well.

Aside from the Panasonic GAOO, the nicest non-flat screen TV I've ever seen was a Toshiba.

I wish I had the money, I would have bought it when I had the chance. I can't stress how beautiful the picture was with a DVD player hooked up to it.

that happens to me when i play my xbox, with the sound coming through my hi-fi. the hi-fi gives off interference which fucks with my tv picture. do you have a similar set up? if so, try moving your hi-fi further away from the tv then try it then.

While we're on the subject...

I'm in the market for a 36" TV right now (mostly for gaming, kind of for movies, and not really for TV) - what's the best route? Is HD really worth it (I know my Neo looks like crap hooked up to the bigscreen HDTV my parents have through S-Video)? I guess I'd like to stay around 800, but I don't want to buy a TV that isn't going to look it's best playing games.

Model numbers, companies, etc would be helpful. I'd especially like to know what the *specific* differences are between, say, Toshiba/Sony/Pioneer/Samsung TVs of the same specs are. People always say "go with Sony", but that doesn't really help, you know? What's the difference in picture quality?

It's the TV, I tried unplugging the antenna, nothing. I have no speakers nearby, so there is no magnetic field fucking with the screen. It does it with any video input, be it RF, RCA, S-Video. It's goin back, and I'm getting something else.

fair enough buddy, always best to check though, because what i just said is usually the first thing to come out of the retailer's mouths when you try to take it back.

I heard Apex is a offshoot company of Sony, any truth to this?

As for TVs, Sony practically owns me already but Toshiba makes a nice TV also.

To be honest, for flat screen TV sets, any from SOny, Panasonic, Samsung or Toshiba will do any game justice. Standard size 36" or a widescreen is fine.

You really can never go wrong with a brand name. Personally, I have my sights set on Samsung's 30" widescreen set. It's a perfect size for games, is HDTV compatible and the price is soooooooo right.

I got a Sanyo 27" Flatscreen and it is great. It is also the #1 brand in consumer reports for not breaking.
