I just went through most of the end of the year awards from gamespot and I was incredibly disappointed. I usually like gamespot, and have a subscription because of it, but this was absolutely terrible.

They gave The Mark of Kri, Steel Battalion, Mario Sunshine, and Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance: 'Most Dissapointing' Awards. Ok, for Mario they tried to justify it... but the rest they didn't really. Why the hell did they give them such high scores if they were disappointing?

Those are my specific gripes, but the whole thing was rather shoddy I thought. Just thoroughly disappointing :( . Oh well....

Why would they give Castlevania that dubious honor?? Sure, I think COTM was the better handheld version because it was more difficult and twice as long but I wouldn't call Castlevania HOD a dissapointment.

I actually agree with Mario though. I really tried to like Sunshine but I just couldn't get into it. I just don't like these 3D platform games anymore. I really loved Mario 64 but I just can't get into 3D platformers with the hide and seek mentality.

I also agree with Metroid Prime being game of the year. Really didn't dissapoint me as a sequel to my favorite game of all time, Super Metroid.

*looks at custom rank*

I've really got no problem with their decisions; especially when it comes to game of the year.

I was quite pleased actually.Jet Set Radio Future won for best Music and Style, which it was highly deserving. Dead TYo Rights also got best story, which is also accurate, it's a very good 'Action-Noir' that holds a place in my heart.

Yeah, I have no problem with Metroid Prime getting game of the year. I haven't actually played it yet, but I'm sure it's good. Right now I'd go with GTA: Vice City, but like I said, I haven't played Metroid.

There actually wasn't a whole lot of great competition this year I don't think. Not a whole lot that really excited me to be honest. I was just really disappointed with the games that they gave 'Dubious Honors' to. I don't think they deserved that. Oh well, gamespot has lost a lot of respect in my eyes....

weird how lately these lists in "video game magazines" offer no mention of games that I happened to play...

Of course when the only three "video games" I bought this year were resident evil 0 and 1, and Tactics Ogre GBA...

Seriosuly though - most dissapointing game of 2002: Metal Slug 4. That's just the fact. If anyone disagrees, they can shampoo my crotch.

that place has lil to no respect from me anymore. They don't really have any interesting or exclusive news, their reviews are shoddy, and you have to pay for access. All that leads to a cruddy vidgame site. Plus it is hard as hell to navigate now.
The best part of the site, is the inclusion of their history. So you can search for old saturn games.

"Most disappointing" is not equal to "bad." I can't comment on most of them, but for CV: Harmony of Dissonance, I'm with them. The game is a very pale and shallow retread of Nocturne in the Moonlight, except even easier, with lazily-designed bosses, a poor castle design, crap music, practically no hidden areas, unbalanced spells/weapons, and just generally not that impressive.

While it's not a bad game, particularly compared to a lot of the crap that's on the GBA, it's most certainly a far cry from what it was purported and expected to be. That falls under the category of "most disappointing."

Too much whining goes on around here (and any community). "Gaming site X doesn't agree with my opinions! Fuck them! They suck!" And that's just for starters. For the love of Pete, grow up. ;P

Damn Straight Deuce. i had a similar problem with Sonic Adventure 2, and Crazy Taxi 2, and because i said they were dissapointing compared to their forerunners, people assumed i thought they were crap, which is not the case in the slightest.

That my friends is the reason I'll never pay for something I can get absolutely free on other gaming sites.

Meh, I agree wholeheartedly with their GBA choices at least. Tactics Ogre was hands down the best GBA game I've picked up this year.

After 13 years they still make new Neo-Geo games and you have the gall to call it disappointing? Put this in perspective here.... I'm not saying everyone has to love the new releases but is there any need to be so harsh?

To show off my Neo-Geo to a friend of mine who'd never played one I put in MS4 and played it with them for a while. They were so impressed that they kept telling me "this is the most fun game ever! I love this kind of game!" and they told me they were going to brag to people that they got to play it. This is seriously the kind of reaction people my age (who grew up on 2D gaming) have to the series and yes, even to this game. Now, maybe you'll tell me that it's because it's just a rehash or whatever, but screw you. Don't buy it then. Some people like 2D gameplay and long for more and more of that same old goodness. They add plenty of new stuff to them.

Stop being so jaded....

It sure was nice to see REZ get some well-deserved respect. Best game artistically for PS2! Good choice IMO, still the list didn't agree with my palet.
