*Blade Runner*.... Original Version or Directors Cut?

I own both version of this great SCI-FI Cyberpunk flick and after watching the original again earlier today, I still like the one that was released before the "Director's Cut". Sure it was cool seeing the DC version in the theatre in '99 when it was re-released, and the DVD is cool... but the voice over narration over Decker gave it more of it's Film Noirish grit, plus I never liked the cliff hanger "Deckard's a Replicant" thing in the DCV. My main problem with DCV's today is that once a Director's Cut of something is out the buying public no longer has a choice in what version they get, and just because something is a DCV doesn't neccessairly make it a better movie. In most cases it is, but in some it isn't. I like the way Blade Runner was originally made, what's your favorite version and why?

Director's cut, I really thought the Original was silly and badly done. The voice overs were intentionally made hokey, because Harrison Ford resented doing them. He went on the record as saying that he did them so bad on purpose hoping the studio couldn't use them... Also, I don't think there is a cliff hanger ending in the Director's Cut, it was pretty obvious to me he was a replicant throughout the movie... I don't know, I want for the new version that is planned for release this year... Lot's of missing scenes are replaced (Like the dream sequence that was litterly lost and taken from another movie at the last moment) and the picture is cleaned up and not as shaky :) Anyway, Director's Cut for now, lets see how the new one turns out,

I have to say that, from a non-biased standpoint, the directors cut is the better movie. However, having seen the original in the theatre upon its release, it still holds a special place in my heart. I still have my Beta copy of the original theatrical version. ;) Hopefully the upcoming special edition DVD will hold three versions, as the producers have mentioned they have considered (original theatrical release, director's cut, and a new, longer extended director's version).

The Director's Cut is the director own view of the movie. Nothing more is needed.

Directors cut all the way. The voice over is lame and yes Harrison didnt want to do and did it poorly to try and get them not to use it. Hopefully we get the new BladeRunner DVD set in 2003 that has the newer Directors Cut that Ridley Scott showed in LA last winter with the hospital scene and the original Unicorn footage.

Directors Cut. The ending alone makes it the superior film. I always thought the original versions happy ending was extremely out of place.

WOW! Thanks for the replies on this. I dunno, I guess after re-watching the original version I just like it better for some odd reason. To be honest I didn't know there was yet another DCV coming out. Maybe this time we'll get to see the scene where deckard visits Holden in the hospital too. I just wish the studios would do *Edge of Human* by K.W. Jeter into a movie.

Aaaarrhhgg!

The Dierector's cut is, of course, the 'superior' film,

BUT...

The friggin' original version is what many of us (including me) watched for YEARS up until the release of the Director's Cut on video back in the early 90's.

I watched that version for NINE FUCKING YEARS.

Ridley Scott is an old scatterbrain who is so stubborn he refuses to include the original version in any collection of the film.

Hello! That is fucked up.

With Terry Gilliam's Brazil, they released all THREE versions- not just the one Gilliam preferred. Even the one he fought the studio tooth and nail NOT to release.

Blade Runner is always going to be 'inclomplete' until they release a collection with ALL of the versions of the film.

Get a fuckin clue people.
