Does anyone know any good online Jaguar sites both for info and sales?

My second question is a little harder. When the Jag first came out, I remember seeing a 2D horizontal shooter that looked really cool for the Jaguar in EGM. Does anyone know what it might possibly be?

The shooter sounds like Trevor MCfur in the Crescent Galaxy , or Raiden , both of which are must own titles if you like side scrollers and own a Jaguar.

You may want to checkout www.atariage.com for some good info and games that were released for the Jaguar.

Lots of people crap on the Jaguar , but I actually bought mine the 2ND day of the release and enjoy mine to this day.

I went over to Atariage and Trevor Mcfur might have been my mystery game. I wanted a Jaguar the day it came out, but I was 11 :D You can guess how much money I had. I followed it in magazines, and was sad to hear of its demise even though I never owned one. Now a decade later I have more money than I did when I was 11 (go figure) I really want to pick up one and relive the past. What other games do you reccomend? I remember thinking AvP looked awesome, and reading that Tempest 200O and Rayman (still havent played the original on any system) were excellent.

Games I reccomend would be from the experience of the ones I own { my jag stuff here http://groups.msn.com/myneogeoandohtergames/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=70 }

get Iron Soldier , a must own !
Aliens VS Preditor
Doom and Wolfenstein 3D , both must have titles
CyberMorph , that comes with it is actually a great game.
Raiden and Trevor Mcfur
Tempest 2000 is a must have , just for the music alone ! look for one with the sound track included , I have it if anyone wants to upload it from me ?
Super Burnout is a great Hang On type racer
Zoop is an excelent puzzle game , very addictive like Puzzle Bobble
Flip Out is a decent puzzler also.
Power Drive Rally is a good overhead racer , sort of like Over Top and Thrash Rally

Get the CD if you can , there are some great games for it as well , a good version of Dragons Lair and an impossibly hard version of Space Ace.

Myst if your down for it ?
BattleMorph = sequel to CyberMorph , great cd game
HighLander is an ok RPG cd
and Blue Lightning is an ok flying game ala After Burner on the cd.

Trevor McFur is quite possibly the worst shooter ever made, and that's coming from a Jaguar fan. Even the people who made it thought it was crap. It was made just for screenshots, and the screenshots do look nice. But when you play the game... Oh my god does that game suck.

Get Tempest 2000. It's the only game you'll ever need.

Yeah... please stay away from Trevor McFur. It truly is crap-tastic. But go ahead and get a Jaguar for sure. It's a great little system with some damn fine games. I'll make a quick list of good stuff to get off the top of my head.

Attack of the Mutant Penguins
Breakout 2000
Checkered Flag
Cybermorph
Defender 2000
Iron Strom
Iron Storm 2
I-War
Missile Command 2000
Raiden
Rayman- Best version of one of the best games.
Super Burnout- Best racing game for the system. Truly excellent.
Tempest 2000- I gotta say what's already been said time and time again. Tempest 2000 is THE Jaguar game.

yeah all the fighter for Jag were pretty shitty.
Fight for Life, and Kasumi Ninja, and Double Dragon V and Ultra Vortek(so so ). eck. It does have one of the best version of Primal Rage. Must own

I love my jag, despite its faults. THe RF out kinda sucks. Anyone know if there is a mod for this?

Telegames made a few games for this as well. Check those out if you have the $$$

Great Games:
Rayman, Defender, Tempest 2000, Checked Flag, CLub Rally, Atari Karts, Breakout 2000, Primal Rage, Zool 2

Songbird is still trying to make games here and there. Look for their page.

Holy crap they made Sensible Soccer for the JAG?
gimme gimme gimme

also, AvP is not really that great of a game. It was in it's time, but pretty nasty when i tried to play it.

Don't forget , this is where Rayman all started....

There are only 4 fighting games for the Jag:

-Fight For Life: This one does suck, its a lame attempt at a 3-d fighter. I think the graphics turned out even more bland and blocky than even Virtual Fighter 1

-Kasumi Ninja: This is a Mortal Kombat clone. It has 2 or 3 good characters, and some really goofy ones (a Scottish guy who lifts his kilt up to throw fireballs at you!). the control is weak, and the game is terribly easy. Blood is the theme, with blood dripping and flying everywhere. Your life meter is a sword, and it drips blood the whole time you play. It does have some neat death moves that keep it at least somewhat replayable. Not bad really, but there is a better fighter, which is:

-ULTRA VORTEK: Another MK clone, but this one matches MK graphically and playability wise. Lots of cool characters, all of which have many special moves, along with fatalities. Most of the moves are reminiscent of any MK game, so MK veterans can easily jump in Ultra Vortek and quickly learn moves and combos. This one is a great fighting game, if you have to get a fighter for the Jag, it should be this one.

-Primal Rage(JagCD): Well, I have this and it looks pretty much like the arcade machine, but I dont think the controls allow for a good gameplay experience. It requires you to use the keypad buttons during gameplay to pull of certain moves. Anyone familiar with the Jag controller knows how inconvenient it is to use that keypad during gameplay. If you have 3 hands, then I would recommend this game.

My must have Jag games are:

-Tempest 2000: cliche, I know, but this game is a hot ticket.

-AvP,Doom,Wolfenstein 3-d: All these old FPS are pretty well done on the Jaguar. There are plenty of codes available for all three games, and besides AvP, the other two are fairly cheap buys.

-WORMS: Not worth it if you have the game on any other format, but if not then this was very well done on the JAG. Rather expensive, and I have a major gripe with the game, it doesn't have a save feature for the options/high scores etc.

-RAYMAN: I agree with the other guy, this is easily the best version of the game on any console. If only all the Jag games could have showcased this kind of color/graphical prowess. Great music, control, graphics, and a save feature!

-Cannon Fodder: Cheap game with lousy 16-bit graphics. But it is a great little tactical combat game, and hard too.

-Also, the two Pinball games on the system are very good for video Pinball games. If you like Pinball, either one is a good buy. PINBALL FANTASIES, and RUINER PINBALL.

What are the frame rates like? I like the out-dated graphics, but if the frame rates are terrible, I wont have fun with the games.

checkered flag has some of the worst frame rates i have ever seen. You really have to pick the right titles.
The 2d games play fine, but some of the 3d titles suffer from poor programming. You are usually pretty well off with frame rates.

Buy someones collection on ebay. The more there is in the collection, the better deal you will get. I got my Jag setup for $130, and everything was complete, all boxes, manuals etc. I got a Jag console, JagCD add-on, and 13 boxed games, plus a spare controller.

So, if you have absolutely no Jaguar stuff right now, I recommend getting someones collection on ebay or something, because for one, you'll get a good deal, and two, you'll want alot of games for the Jaguar because most of them DO NOT hold your attention for more than 20-30 minutes at a time! There are few exceptions. Most of the games are really fun for a little bit, but then they wear off.
