Serious discussion here.

I prefer my Neo gaming on the real deal, but any hardcore gamer worth his salt knows that without MAME, so many great games would be completely lost. Who here is a big user of MAME? What are some of your fave classics? Here's a short list of my absolute faves:

Time Pilot
Galaga
Final Fight
Gunsmoke
Gyruss
Strider
Commando
Yie-Ar Kung Fu (the real grandaddy of modern fighters)
Galaga '88

Many more....that's just a sample.

BTW...anti-ROM Nazi's who wish to storm this thread should lay the fuck off. MAME doesn't support any recent Neo dumps. These people arent evil pirates. Their coding skills are great, and are helping to ensure a dying arcade legacy that MUST be preserved.

I was going to build a MAME unit a while back. A large 4 player arcade style control panel that housed a PC with a custom interface for selecting systems and games but I said fuck that too much work.

I barely play games anyway and I never play romz on PC because it sucks (playing on a 17" monitor with a windowed screen can suck a cock for all I care).

Of course I dig the classics, Aliens VS Predator, the TMNT games, Final Fight, Street Fighter and VS series, pretty much all the beat em ups, blah blah blah.

a serious discussion???? what's that d00d??? please send me romzzz to l33thax0r@hotmail.com

Seriously though, man I've been using MAME for a long time. Since version 0.14, which was like... six years ago. I can't believe it's been so long. Anyway, some of the classics I greatly enjoy:

Black Tiger
Rygar
Time Soldiers (the best thing ADK ever did)
Land Sea Air Squad (this game is pretty damn obscure, which is a shame. it's like Ikari Warriors, but it's sooooo much more fun! If you like that or Commando, you simply MUST check this game out.)
Yie-Ar Kung Fu (hell yeah Loopz, this game was the shit. and it'd be even better if I could find a reliable pattern for beating the 2nd Tonfun)
Chimera Beast (the best shooter nobody's played. I stand alone in my appreciation for this game...)
Robocop
Blood Brothers
Willow
Aliens
Sunset Riders
Dodonpachi
ESPRade
Guwange

man, I could just go on and on and on and on.

my most recent addiction in the newest version of MAME is a Japanese-only game called Change Air Blade. It's like a Vs. shooting game, but I think it works better than Twinkle Star Sprites... instead of retardedly shooting preset patterns of enemies, one ship is at the bottom of the screen trying to destroy the other one designated as the "enemy". The "enemy" can take a lot of shots before losing a "life", but the other player only has to get hit by one stray bullet to lose a life. The enemy can even call for "boss" support and use all new methods of attacks. And if the player picks up the "Change" icons, you switch positions, so that you're the enemy now! It sounds pretty crazy and it's really quite difficult to explain it all, so I'll just say that it's well-worth checking out if you like Twinkle Star Sprites. it's a fairly recent game though (1999 Sammy)

EDIT: ok, the Cave games I slapped on at the end there are pretty recent and might not be "classics" per se, but fuck it, I love them. :)

I use mame often {since the first release] and am currently rewireing my play Station cabinet back to Jamma for older stuff as well as a mame dos dedicated computer using a JPac fingerboard.

I have been in the arcade gaming/owning scene for many years now and think emulation can be a very positive thing, I think it helps to keep the interest up in arcade style gaming and lets alot of people see where we have come from to where we are, and for us older gamers it brings back some great memories too.

Mame is a pretty nifty toy but really pales in comparrison to the full effect you get from a true dedicated cabinet, for me it will never take the place of any of the cabs I own or keep me from further buying of the classics , just suplament them.

Bye the way next to my Sinistar cab my Time Pilot and A.P.B. are my favorite time wasters.

In case you can't tell I sometimes enjoy a slightly more violent video game LOL

Arrrgh, Willow makes me angry. So good, yet...so fucking hard. Way back in the 'ol Callus days, two of my friends stayed up all night trying to beat that game. They did, and vowed to never touch it again. I fire it up once in a while, dig on it for a bit, and then put it the hell away.

The recent Cave shooters are indeed really friggin' good. Guwange is just like an old Genesis game on roids. Dodonpachi is a smokin' shooter, one of the best in recent memory.

I'm gonna go find Chimera Beast just to see what it's all about.

Ninja Warriors
Black Dragon (Black Tiger)
Bay Route (SEGA made offish Contra clone)
Magic Sword
Strider Hiryu

I love MAME, but since I only have a keyboard (and no longer live at home, so I can't use my bro's computer), I don't enjoy it as much.

Still, I loved:

WWF Superstars and 1942.

I WISH I could get MAME for my XBOX but don't know how (Hint, Hint!!!!!)

I've used MAME in the past to play SamSho. I then went out and bought the real thing (MVS/Super Gun) to play it.

Other games I tried out:
Timber
Domino Man

And some other really lame shit.
