OK, so I was already pumped for this game when I heard they snagged some of the Vagrant Story team. So... uh... yeah. Any info at this point is good to me.

Looks like we've got a serious fantasy/sci-fi hybrid here, though. Can't put my finger on what it reminds me of, but it doesn't look futuristic or ancient, you know?

Yeah, it's not much, but I just thought it looked kinda unique so I posted it.

reminded me of FF VIII which I don't even consider a FF game (personal opinion) . wish they would return to the fantasy realm (FF 1~6 / 9)

I won't judge untill I play/see a movie

EDIT : thanks for the link :D

"Square has released a teaser poster of Final Fantasy XII for PlayStation 2 in the Japanese magazine Dorimaga. Square has also announced the producers for the game, Jun Akiyama will be the production supervisor (FFVII), Akihiko Yoshida (Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story character designer) will be the character design and 3D map design, and Hideo Minaba (FF Tactics, FFIX) will be the art director"(Magicbox)

There's a dream team here... <img src="graemlins/drool2.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool 2]" />

That poster looks awesome! It reminds me a lot of the anime movie Metropolis for some reason. Can't wait to hear more news on this game.

There you go. Metropolis. That's what it reminds me of.

I think FF8 almost had a more 1950's feel (along with all the crazy fantasy and sci-fi stuff mixed in)... this doesn't seem to really fit any time period, IMO. Well, maybe the "lost city of Atlantis" time period, but... well... that's probably fantasy in and of itself.

Either way, if you aren't going to reuse the same worlds and continue the same story (like Suikoden), I'd much rather see a different type of fantasy each time.

I always wonder, though - why wasn't anybody bothered by the industrial/victorian look of FFVI? It really felt quite different than the previous volumes (which had a distinct medieval feel), but people always lump it together anyways.

what bothers me is that you can't see any real medieval RPGs these days and a FF game would rock if it was made that way now

uh I'm playing FF VI now :D . and yes , I hate when I play in an industrial place . but these places are less than 10% of the whole game (I bet you stopped playing from the bigenning which somehow feel boring) . the rest of the game is pure medival (villages , magic , castles , ................... etc.) . I consider it a real classic

I bet I finished the entire game, as I did with all the rest ('cept for 9). The whole "knights" and "wizards" feeling is downplayed big-time - the closest comparisons I can even think of are Edgar (not a knight in the traditional sense) and Leo (more resemblance to a modern military figure than a knight). There's castles, but not in the same context as medieval fantasy. And villages? Hell, 90% of FF7 was villages.

I mean, it's like nobody noticed the mecha and the trains and...

That's part of the reason I liked it - after the same setting over and over (in FF and other RPGs up to that point), they started moving the series in different directions. I just think it's strange that people ignore the obvious differences... The differences are stronger than the similarities, you know?
