OK, let me apologize in advance. I'm forced to work long hours the days following Xmas and I have little-to-no work to do, hence I'm bored and I saw this on IGN.

XBox lays the smacketh down on the GC...

Now I should say that I'm mighty happy with my copy of Super Monkey Ball 2 that I got for Xmas this year, and that to truely enjoy all the great games this year you have to have ALL 3 SYSTEMS (PS2: DDR Max, Shinobi; GCN: Monkey Ball 2, Mario; XBox: MechAssault, Steel Battalion).

However I'm posting this for 2 reasons:

1.) Serve up some crow for the fanboys who said Nintendo was going to crush Microsoft this holiday season.

2.) I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY bored.

It's more #2 than anything else guys, so please don't think I hate you.

Peace :D

"With far bigger titles on the horizon for Microsoft next year and very few big franchises left in Nintendo's bag for 2003, it could be an even merrier X-Mas for Microsoft a year from now. Of course, we'll be back to let you know how this little ol' console war is turning out."

That ruined any credibility the article had whatsoever. But at least we know a few of those Xbox fanboys can hold semi-professional jobs and write coherently.

I still don't see why we should care about sales figures. Nintendo has consistently upheld their position of not trying to be a major competitor with Sony or MS, so why bother with the numbers?

I guess it doesn't matter that Sony has a grasp on the games industry right now, the important thing is that Bill Gates is trouncing a Japaense FUN MACHINE. Right?

Ooh hey, let's see, Microsoft is beating Nintendo on all-hey wait a minute, what about the Gameboy franchise? How many units did THAT move this holiday season? Did we conveniently forget about that one? How many games did THAT console sell? Or does that not count as a console because it's a little smaller, and it's beaten the living crap out of every competitor to ever come its way (I'm a big fan of NGPC too but it did). Oh well, that's the way it goes with the media I guess, you'll only find out what they want you to know, or what someone else paid them to tell you.

1.) There was boasting done there, but those were quotes from Microsoft. They pulled the important info, the sales numbers, from real physical data that can not be argued. Otherwise someone would proove them completely wrong on a competiting site.

2.) GBA sales mean absolutely nothing in terms of the GC. If the GC continues to sell below expectations you can expect it to suffer the fate of the N64.

Peace

Good job microsoft!

Still, it remains the most unfun video game system ever. Halo is still pretty much all it has to offer. And it will have to offer until 2004 Halo 2.

Gamecube and PS2 are the only systems with actual fun games. PS2 with the most...

It's just amazing how many americans are buying the Xbox. Lets face it, it really is a piece of shit software-wise....everyone's buying it because it's so powerful.

I just didnt know there were that many stupid people in america.

See, I'm not trying to be a blind fanboy. I'd just hate to see MS win any console war after seeing how HORRIBLE their system is....can you imagine it being the only thing on the market? I would give up video games. It's really that bad.

Now, if they kept making games like Halo....It would no doubt be the best system on the market. But to me...it's more like the n64. One great game, a few bland but ok ones....and a lot of shit.

I'll entertain your dribble, and list the great games that should appeal to everyone and not just myself:

Halo
Splinter Cell
Steel Battalion
Mech Assault
DOA3
NFL2k3 (ONLINE PLAY)
NBA2k3 (ONLINE PLAY)
Jet Set Radio Future

Best versions of
SSX Tricky
Tony Hawk 4

Future Games
Halo 2
CvS2 (ONLINE PLAY)
MvC2 (ONLINE PLAY)
Panzer Dragoon Orta
DOA Volleyball
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
Perfect Dark Sequel
Conkers Bad Fur Day Sequel

Funny thing I saw round here. Everyone used to make jokes bout XBox games crashing because it's made by Microsoft, except this thread is talking about Metroid games crashing regularly, and it's a KNOWN PROBLEM! :p

Go play the Sim's for kids, I mean Animal Crossing. It was a N64 game untill that system died, it shows.

I can't deny a fun game...and neither can you. Unless you're a fanboy.

The bottom line is, i tried a BUNCH of xbox games...and they're all boring.

Calling my opinions "dribble" isn't polite. Just cause I disagree with your views on the system, doesn't mean you have to attack me.

Keep in mind this system is not a relative of yours; its never done anything for you personally; its not your wife....quit defending it like it is. That is the true mark of a fanboy.

I agree with Buro. The numbers might be correct, but their outlook in nextyear looks a bit one sided. To say Nintendo has little left as far franchises go, is complete and utter horseshit.

They have one of the biggest. Zelda! People can talk shit all day long about not liking the cell shading, but I got a feeling that game is going to flat out sell like hot cakes. Then you have the new Mario Kart game, Pokemon game(ughhhhh), the Final Fantasy CC game, and a whole slew of other stuff. I don't think the GC is gonna crack the PS2's dominance, but to say it is running out of steam against the XBox, that just sounds plain stoopid.

I wish IGN would drop their game system specific fanboy sections and try to be unbiased in their reporting.

Then again, looking at their message boards, you would think the average reader is about 13. So I suppose they are just doing things the way their ignorant reader base wants.

I actually find the PS2 boring and sold mine some months ago. I own both the Cube and Box and love them equally even though my Cube library is more than twice that of my Xbox. The Xbox doesnt have that many good games, but the ones that are good are really good. Currently most of my time is spent on the Cube, but the few good Xbox games and the few more good ones on the horizon I feel make it worth having even though I cannot get Xbox live (broadband doesnt exist out here.). Hmmm this post ended up sounding like Xbox defence, but that wasnt my point. I guess what I am trying to say is that I believe they are both good systems in their own ways, and definately better than the PS2.

You know, all this data is nice, however if all we cared about was sales figures I guess we wouldn't be here, now would we? I mean, the Neo Geo didn't have NEARLY as good a Christmas as the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube so I guess since it's not mainstream we should just all leave this site and go over to GameFAQs, right?

Just play the games on the system(s) you like, and don't give a shit about what sells the most.

I played Splinter Cell for about 10 hours yesterday. Metal Gear is not even in the same ball park as Splinter Cell.

WHAT??!?!?!?!?

Dude you aren't making ANY sense whatsoever! All of a sudden I can't deny a fun game that is Animal Crossing, and yet you sit there and try to tell me that Halo is the only good XBox game?? What in the blue hell is wrong with you???

I listed a shitload of good games on XBox. Hell they're VERY GOOD GAMES. And yet when I crap on a game like Animal Crossing, which is just a horrid excuse for the game it tries to be, you're calling ME a fanboy?

And let me tell you WHY Animal Crossing is ASS. It's not even about the graphics. Sure it's a N64 game on GC. But that doesn't matter, the characters are cute enough and the textures, albeit small, are very clean and the game at least has a little style to it.

HOWEVER it is nothing more than the Sims w/ cute graphics. Sure it's great for some people, but not for me. BUT here's where the BIG problem comes in. The games big hook is about trading items and sending things to people. Except you have to CALL PEOPLE AND GIVE THEM A LONG ASS PASSWORD TO GET AN ITEM! How, in this day and age, could they NOT enable Internet support for this game? It's beyond me. Maybe it's because they knew that the hand of God was going to be against them when it came time to actually sell a Broad Band Adapter.

But please, for the love of GOD, do not accuse me of being a blatant fanboy because I'm "denying a good game", and yet you sit there and talk about how the XBox doesn't have any good games except Halo. Have you PLAYED Steel Battalion? Mech Assault? Splinter Cell?

And yes the XBox is not my wife, but I'm assuming the GameCube is sucking your dick every other day because you seem to want to jump in and defend it all the time...

No, Yes, and Yes.

Being defensive about the gamecube is something completely different than posting TRIUMPHANT SALES numbers in hopes of starting another system wars thread.

I mean, honestly. Looking back, isn't that what you hoped to accomplish?

If it was anything else, you're a fool, because both you and I know that's where these threads go.

jhendrix - i respect you in many ways

but this post is an advertisement for gamefaqs mate

it would nestle amongst the other drivel there quite easily

wrt animal crossing - you dont like it thats evident - but others do, all you are doing is trying to force your opinion on others

here is a list of the games you mentioned with my opinion:

Halo - ho humm looks beautiful but gets boring rather quick
Splinter Cell - very difficult game and it ruins its playability
Steel Battalion - seen it in action and its crap like all mech games
Mech Assault - crap
DOA3 - looks lovely but plays like every other doa
NFL2k3 (ONLINE PLAY) - who cares
NBA2k3 (ONLINE PLAY) - who cares
Jet Set Radio Future - excellent game but not any better than the dc version

Best versions of
SSX Tricky - playability stll the same
Tony Hawk 4 - ditto

Future Games
Halo 2 - very proising i just hope they add elements from metroid into the gameplay - i mean puzzles, brain teasers not just an on rails fps
CvS2 (ONLINE PLAY) - big wow - Xbox controller is crap for fighters
MvC2 (ONLINE PLAY) - ditto
Panzer Dragoon Orta - looking forward to this
DOA Volleyball - if its as good as beachspikers it will be great but i reckon this is just gonna be a cheap thrill
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic - sonds promising - never heard of it
Perfect Dark Sequel - i hope its good for rares sake
Conkers Bad Fur Day Sequel - ditto

there are my opinions - are they gospel, heck no

i have splinter cell and its good albeit fucking annoying - but its not perfect (love the cameras that whistle and spray gas)

I totally agree. Personally, I stopped giving a fuck about which system was in what place quite a while ago. I WILL admit, however, that I wish the Gamecube was doing a lot better. Personally there are more games on the Cube that I like over the X-box. Both are decent systems, but I sorta feel sorry for anyone who owns just one or the other (or just a PS2). THere are so many great experiences to be had on all systems that people shouldn't be so closed minded about it. I guess if you don't have the funds to own 2, you don't have the funds. You shouldn't try to trounce all over the people who do have 2-3 current systems though, just because you don't (this isn't directed at JHendrix, since I'm pretty sure he was saying he owns a Cube and a Box), or all over someone who didn't make the same choice in a system as you did. Buy the system that has the most games you want to play and stop poking fun at people with different systems.

If the world were a perfect place, the Neo Geo would be the top selling system, with the most top selling games, but it's kind of hard to have a million seller when all of your new releases are limited to only 500 copies :) I love the Neo and I wish everyone could afford one in some form or another (be it NGH, MVS or MVS/Super Gun).

Wow, thanks for agreeing with me Chimpmeister. Zelda WILL "pull them out" if the demo I played is any indication. Its too bad a child of your age can't appreciate these "Cel-da" graphics. Most children LIKE cartoons.

Oh boy, if I hear one more thing about Steel Battalion LOL. Face it, at $200 it will never be a system mover, ever. It's a game aimed at the hardest of the hardcore. I want the system to show me innovation at the normal price tag. You people keep saying that Nintendo keeps throwing the same crap at me, meanwhile the only games that anyone seems to give a damn about on the xbox are about a team of specialists who, or a lone gunman who, go in and kill people. Halo, Splinter Cell, Dead to Rights, Ghost Recon, all good-great games in their own right, don't get me wrong. I don't have anything against the system at all if it produces good games and people enjoy it. But I want innovation as well, I want games to move forward somewhat. Even I can grow weary of killing people and going on espionage missions all the time. I want to see more games like Pikmin, and Animal Crossing, and yes I am excited about seeing a different looking Zelda. If developers don't ever do anything different, how are we as a gaming community ever going to move forward?
Personally, I think putting GC on the same plateau as the N64 is completely absurd. The N64 had a few good games, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Zelda, but a LOT of complete tripe as well. Granted, every system has some real crap put out on it that goes into the bargain rack in a week or so, but even you have to admit there are still some games on the cube that have sold well since the beginning and still sell, like SSBM, like Rogue Leader. Hell, SSBM still generally goes for the same price that it did when it first came out. I've been playing it since August and I'm still having fun with it.
Now shall we move onto the Microsoft innovation? Ok, sports games, never ever count for innovation, they're the same sport as when they were invented. DOA 3? Ok they bought it. SSX Tricky? Bought. Tony Hawk? They whore that game out to every system, I'm surprised the Amiga doesn't have one. CvS2, MvC2, how many translations are we up to now? Oh I'm sorry, because it's on the xbox it's better than any other version. Why? Because it's on the xbox and I can pay more to play with a bunch of 733t hAx0rS online. DoA Volleyball. You're kidding, right? That's boobs in bikinis on a DVD, what's supposed to drive me there? Boobs? They're free all over the internet, and if you actually have a life, you can get real ones anyway. Perfect Dark sequel? Once again, bought. Conker? Oh, that's a good one, I have to think really hard about this one they bought it! Oh I give up, it's like talking to a brick wall with people these days.

<Sigh>, the video game industry is run by money and I am growing quite ill. I'm gonna go join Strong Bad and go play some Temple of Apshai LOL.

Well buster_broon, I feel the same way you do, but about GC games. Looking at their lineup, there's literally almost nothing of interest to me:

Zelda: The Wind Breaker -- cel-shaded graphics look horrible, game overall looks ridiculous. See screenshots for proof . . .

Mario Sunshine -- they should retire the Mario franchise, its been beaten to death and this one is annoying. Great for kids though, I'll admit that . . .

Metroid Prime -- haven't played it but I admit this game made me almost want to buy a Cube. Almost, but not quite . . . still unquestionably Nintendo's strongest title for the Cube and worth a look.

Resident Evil 0 -- I didn't like this series on the PSX, and I still don't like it. Too many cutscenes and awkward controls, and the load time between rooms (on the PSX one) killed it for me.

Star Fox Adventures -- looks like horrible kiddie crap, and boring to boot

Animal Crossing -- of no interest at all to me, way too cute and cuddly

Monkey Balls (hehe) -- Wow, complex controls there, just use the analog stick and thats all? ZZZZZzzzz....

Then you have all the other ports, 90%+ of which are equal or better on the PS2 or XBox, thus can 90%+ be dismissed. No need to own a Cube for these.

What's left? Nothing. Nintendo's tired and rehased licenses like Mario, Starfox, Zelda etc. are not going to tilt the scale for me. Their continued appeal to pre-teen gamers (admitted by most magazines and online sites) doesn't make me want to rush out and buy a cute lil' Cube . . . sorry.

Way to edit my post and take away the entire point! See above. You're basically telling me that I can't rag on a game because I think it sucks, but since you think it's fun or other people think it's good I shouldn't deny it's a fun game.

And yet I list a shitload of GOOD XBox games that LOTS of people think is good (since so many more people bought it) and yet you can sit there and say they're all boring. Just cause they're on XBox.

And just in case you're wondering, yes I did want to make a system war thread. I was bored at work, and tommorrow when I'll prolly be just as bored I'll have something fun to look at now.

BUT, its also fun to throw this in the face of the same people who said that the GC would pull ahead after XMas, and "Just you watch, GC is ahead of the XBox!". I find it amazing all the stuff that is said in opposition to this, and yet us XBox supporters are labeled as blind fanboys. Take a look in the mirror...
