I bought my XBOX and Halo when the XBOX launched in the US on November 15, 2001. As such, I have the original HALO insert art on my copy. Later production runs (in 2002 and above) had their insert desingn changed a bit...the art is the same, but they use the shiny foil stamped design for the art and there is a sticker or insignia that lauds the fact that this is the Game of the year, etc.

I've noticed that the original insert design isn't very common and I'm curious as to which design you guys have.

They're not really rare considering how many copies of halo sold in the first year. They're less common at retail than the goty versions, but the only place I'd expect to see them called rare is on an ebay auction next to the word "L@@K!"

If I recall correctly, the GOY editions came out rather quickly...I think at first it was just a gold sticker that retailers placed over their existing copies, while waiting for the new insert to be produced. I believe the new inserts were officially shipped out sometime in the middle of 2002, so obviously the first runs are not as prevalent, judging by how few I've seen in the used sections of the Gamestops/EB's in my area.

No, no no! Not at all! I have no plans to sell my copy of Halo. I'm just curious to get an idea as to how many of these original inserts were printed.

FYI, I have a copy of Airforce Delta Storm that I bought near the launch date and never even once considered selling it when it was at it's highest value last year before Gamestop started to sell it again. I'm a gamer first and foremost. :)

I have the original as well, the only one I see are the GOTY editions anymore. I have yet to come across one of the regular ones being sold at the store anymore. Microsoft definitely got the GOTY edition ones out fast!!

they are less commin in the sense that only 1 billion of the normal insert were made while 60 billion of the goty insert were made.

Well since the game came out in Nov it was only out for a month and a half before it was GOTY, so while I'm sure a ton sold without that emblem, the ratio is probobly pretty small compared to the GOTY insert.

Yes, and people gladly pay it. I don't understand why you put the "shame" graemlin. Its just plain good business sense. The only time you MIGHT see Halo drop in price is when Halo 2 comes out.

heh. yeah it's still $49.99 .. and for the longest time you'd see a used copy right next to it for $47.99 blow_top although these days the used ones are down to $39.99
i have a feeling the price might drop a bit once the PC version is out in a few weeks, but even then no biggie to me since i've already got it... although i am tempted to get the PC version. drool

I dont have Halo. Just got my X-Box this year. Im still pissed that game retails for that much. Isn't Halo on the Xbox greatest hits line up? Im pretty sure it is. And it still retails for $50? Thats crap. Oh well i'm just cheap that all.

Iam getting Halo soon and the copy Iam getting is from my friend. On the Halo case it says "Not For Resale". Its just like the classic genesis games. Iam giving him Serious Sam and $10 to close the deal. He accepted as he's my friend. I havent played Halo in months. Since he moved away that was the only reason I bought X-box was for that game. Now maybe other titles as well since I dont look into xbox games that often.

I don't see how it makes sense to have a "greatest hits" line-up only to leave the system's best-selling game out of it only to continue to fleece money. Sorry. It just goes to show Microsoft's over-reliance on this title as far as I'm concerned. At least slash the cost by $10, anyway...
