Well,
I'd rate the Saturn's shooters like so:
Battle Garegga- 2D powerhouse. Awesome, blazing fast gameplay with amazing, pure 2D graphics. A programming marvel- no slowdown. Some find the 'difficult' to see bullets to be annoying though (Although, I think it's realistic...)
Radiant Silvergun- I probably don't need to mention it, but it really does make you wonder how Treasure could get a game this good looking to run on a 32-bit system. I mean- it's better than ANY PSX game graphically and looks better than any DC shooter (Except maybe Ikaruga and
maybe ZG2). Awesome, deep as shit gameplay doen't hurt either.
Shienryu- King of old school shooters. Awesome
Soukyugurentai- Also an amazing graphical tour-de-force. Runner up to RS in terms of doing 'next-gen' graphics on the Saturn.
Thunderforce V- Despite the weak and choppy 3D graphics that litter the game throughout- it's fucking fast and awesome. Frantic and frenetic gameplay unlike any other.
Sengoku Blade- Awesome shooter with awesome tits.
Sol Divide- OK- bear with me... This isn't really a real shooter exactly. But it's pretty much a shooter, so that's close enough. AMAZING phantasy, swords and sorcery pre-rendered graphical joy-fest. Short, with limited arcade-style gameplay. I happen to love it and feel it's very underrated.
Strikers 1945- Awesome WWII shooter with a super cool WWII fighter planes on the moon last level.
Strikers 1945 II- Great, much more 'military' sequel to the first. I find it's gameplay very satisfying as well.
