Great Snes Sidescroll shooters?

You know... like UN squadron (AWESOME), and Gradius 3....... What are more side/top scroll shooters where you are a pilot? They must be US SNES games.

I know of some... but please throw as many as you can off of the top of your head.

THE best sidescroller has got to be Rtype III.

Not only is it awesome, but it is insanely tough. It also utilizes mode seven to enhance gameplay (and for visual pizzaz sometimes). Awesome music, wicked stage transitions and 3 weapons systems to chose from (Storm is the best) only add to the greatest SNES shooter ever.

One of the few games that couldnt be done justice on the Genesis, regretably.

Yeah, Rtype 3 is US. I can read instructions, pushy.

anyways, there is also Space Megaforce, Axelay, Super R Type. A version of Thunder Force 3 exists, though, Im not sure what the US title is. If you want a definative list, go to :

Thunder Spirits is probably what you're referring to, Rade. It combines most of the tf3 levels with a number of the side scrolling levels from tf2.
I'm not sure if it's a port of Thunder Force AC since I've never played it in the arcade.
I was pretty disappointed with Thunder Spirits, lots of slow down, poor music. It's completely inferior to the genesis tf series. But if you're a rabid thunder force collector and you want a tf for the snes, it's a gem.

SNES processor was a lil slow, so this is not the best platform for em ...

Axelay, which isnt sidescrolling per-say, but it is my favorite. Everyone should pick it up if they get the chance, it rocks.

Thats funny. I just read over the original post and there is no mention of it being "trivia". I think Dave was just making sure about the Rtype 3. He in no way said you were incorrect or bullshiting. He was just checking.

You are the one who needs to apologize. You simply took a honest question and spun it around as if he was calling you out.
Also, to call him "kid" - that is a rather disrespectful insult in its own since I don't think he qualifys in that age group.

Do you know when it is coming out? I have not heard/seen release dates... maybe you have? I went looking for them last night. I actually would get both.... if I can find this friggin US version.

You know... I found out Aero Fighters was on the SNES... its too bad that game runs around $60.00... and you can never find a copy.

Also there is Phalanx, BioMetal, Darius Twin and Super Nova (Darius Force).

I would probably rate UN Squadron, the Rtype's and Gradius III above the 4 I listed above, though.

It was harmless. If my best friend who I trust and respect told me some game came out here and I didn't know that, I'd probably say, "It came out here? No way!". That isn't a way of saying "I don't believe you.", it just is a way of showing surprise and emphasizing that you didn't know it if it's true. Also, even the best of us is wrong sometimes. It serves as a way to verify if the person made a mistake. It's not hostile. You're the one who got hostile. Your facts were right but your expression of them was disgraceful. Heck, even if they guy said something totally absurd to you, I don't think talking down to people on here like that is justifiable. It's immature.

Area 88 is the Japanese version of UN Squadron

Spriggan Powered and Macross: Scramble Valkyrie are Japanese only I am pretty sure of.
