I mean, I love it, I consider it to be the best game ever made, but that is because I played it on release... If you missed it and are just playing it today you may be like "great story, but the gameplay is lacking" and I can understand that, it is a text adventure, like a digital comic book... not everyone's bag.
I think your cousin just represents the newer generation of gamers. They have been brought up on flashy graphics and 3d... Snatcher is just a little to tame. This is exactly why Konami doesn't want to revisit the game. I mean, it would sell great to the hardcore populous of older games, but newer ones would probably just say it is an electronic book, and no where near as deep as MGS2 or etc games.
Anyway, its a classic, but like so many classics, if you missed it, you probably never will understand why it is truly great. I am just glad that it was recommended to me during my old SegaCD days... That guy at EB steered me in the right direction with that game
Also... For those who have not played them, the Broken Sword series are excellent story driven adventure games that are somewhat similar to Snatcher. They are point and click, but have great stories and wonderful voice acting... and are a real treat to play.

His first system was an NES. so knock the graphics thing off.
He just plays games that are too main stream.
At least he hated Raiden. That's a good sign.
