I knew about and wanted a Neo when I saw an Article about it in the rare EGM #8

I discovered Fatal Fury in the back of an Arcade
The First day I played Street Fighter II was also the first day I played Fatal Fury.

that's how I discovered the neo.

And you all?

Played Snk games forever in the arcade , and bought a Gold system in 1990.

I was 19 then and in the Marine Corps and saved for a while to get it, needless to say I couldnt afford too many games back then.

My brother had been in the arcade/route business sibce 1988 so in 1994 when I got out of the Marine Corps I sold my Gold system and bought the MV1-F I have now brand new from him along with 8 games , been playing Neo as well as other arcade related machines since.

It was love at first site: I remember seeing a giant article about is in the late great Video Games & Computer Entertainment (the cover art, in traditional VG&CE style, had a big green alien that had no relation to the Neo, but it still looked cool). That was in the fall. In the meantime I finangled financing from every souce I could possibly scrounge up... essentially getting everybody who normally gave me Christmas gifts to pool their money together.

Getting one during the first Christmas it was out pretty much sealed the deal: I was in for the long haul with this old lady.

Playing Magician Lord in the arcades. It was the type of game I used to love (fuck it, I still do) and it's really the best of it's kind on the NEOGEO. This game really showed off the NEO GEO in so many ways. Scaling, parallax, sounds, voice! Bad Voice!! But still cool as shit.

These are the games that I'll still be playing 50 years from now in whatever form I can get them in.

For the last 10-12 years, I've always had a MVS machine nearby to play all of the future classics: SS2, kof94, Crossed Swords, FFS, etc.

Then the romz came for my soul as well. I've been playing them ever since. Playing games on the Home system sucks because you cant turn on the smoothing option and you have to use those huge neo sticks. And its not free.

Played Samurai Showdown II and World Heroes 2 in the arcades back in the day, good times, but then I totally forgot about SNK and Neo Geo. Then a year ago one of the regulars at Raven games (vincewy) was discussing the Neo with Paul (the owner. Suddenly, the great memories I had of playing SNK in the arcades came back.

I starting surfing the net until I came across this site and starting trolling. A few weeks later, while over at another friends crib (Ramad), I was shown the intro to Mark of the Wolves, Last Blade 2, Blazing Star, etc. And all I could think was damn, I've been missing out on that!. Raven games had a cart system in stock that I had been thinking about buying, but after witnessing all the SNK goodness I had missed out on I quickly bought it.

I registered on to ng.com the next day and here I still remain...

Hmm... Let's see...

I think it started with seeing it advertised in Magazines and see Magician's Lord, 'Nam at the arcades. I drooled at the whole system but it was just wayyyyy too expensive for me to get myself. At one point CompuCenter (a computer/game console retail chain) was starting to phaze out their Neo inventory after two or three years. I went in there every chance I got to see how much the games were.

At one point they had a buy 2 get one free promotion, then it became buy 1 get one free, and then they marked the games 50% off. Still, there was no way in hell I could even shell out 125$ for a Neo Game, let alone the price for the system.

Days passed by but we'd still play Neo in the arcades.

When I hit 18, I had one of the best jobs I could have possibly gotten. A really nice-paying job working at a hospital. (I worked in their inventory, had loads of free time, was making close to 18$ an hour just to do data entry.)

I got the oppertunity to purchase a Neo Gold system with Baseball Stars Professional and Riding Hero, along with a fully decked out SNES system for close to 350$ off a person on a BBS. I sold the SNES system (I had one already) to a friend of mine for 100$.

Around then, the Neo got into the big fighting games boom and came out with Art of Fighting and Samurai Shodown. I hunted the games out but they were still in the 400$ range. Way out of my league (even at the time)... CompuCenter had long-since cleared out of the cheap titles they once had.

I kept the Neo for a few years, but ended up making due with the Arcade Card and other ports. I sold the Neo for close to the price I paid for it.

Then I heard of the NeoCD, but it wasn't available locally.

One day, I asked on the Turbo mailing list if there was a similar list for the Neo. Someone directed me to the DHP list. One of the first things I did was hook up with someone to get a NeoCD system. Then I started looking for games and joysticks.

When the NeoPocket came out, I went off and bought one. I kept buying games until they canned it in North America.

After a while, I started to think of getting a Neo cart system. (Especially after getting FF:RB2 on the NeoCD. ;P)

Eventually I stumbled accross the forum, and decided to go with an MVS + supergun route... And now I'll be getting a cab (most likely). ;)

Every step I took, was a rediscovery...

However, I still remember drooling at the adds in the magazines. Hell, I remember reading an article on the Neo in Playboy. [A friend of mine had a subscription.]

back in 92-93..... I saw an awesome game at Walmart called samurai Shodown. Everytime I was around Walmart I would go there and pop a few quarters..... we would eat at a restaurant nearby... I would go there and play before our food came and after we were done eating :) SS was/still is an AWESOME game lol.

At this point, I played a couple other SNK games in the Arcade.... but nothing as cool as Samurai shodown.

I just happened to see a Chips N Bits ad in the new EGM I was reading...... I saw a NEW Neo Geo AES Gold ssytem with 2 controllers and 2 new games was costing around $500.00 + shipping. I crapped my pants... but I was dying for that SS 1 game. I then asked my dad if this would be ok to get (because I was only 12 and in 7th - 8th grade.. and I couldn't afford it)......

He agreed...... I got the sytem with a couple games..... I bought Samurai Shodown for $150.00 (I also got Ghost pilots and King of the Monsters with the system), Last Resort ($145.00), and Fatal Fury Special ($210.00-250.00).

I loved the neo and would come home EVERY day to play it. It is still in MINT condition and has seen TONS AND TONS of action :)

Well,I've been a Video Game collector for many years now.
I collect and play everything I can get my hands on.
I collect systems and I got a pretty banged up Neo Geo console years ago.
My best friend wants this one so I'm buying a nicer one after Christmas.
Anyone have one to sell next year PM me.
I didn't play it much..
I don't have the time to play a lot of my systems.
Not that I didn't like it.
When the Neo Geo was released I was on a girl hunt.(new Car etc..
So it went by me.
I was into collecting at the time but girls were more important at the time.
And I was Racing Moto-cross so that had kept me away too.
Then as if it was meant to be I had another collector who sold me some Microvision stuff come over.
He asked about the Neo-Geo.
So we started talking about times I/we had at the Arcades.
Playing Neo Geo games in general.
I always wanted to own a Dedicated Neo Geo cab.
I told him I wanted to get some more Neo Geo home carts.
I didn't know him for long but he had a big collection of games.

Right before he left he said .
"Hey I shouldn't do this but take this".
He gave me a Mame mini disc.
Then he"seriously" just disappeared off the face of the earth.
I can't find this guy..
He lived up the block and he is GONE.
I didn't know what to do with the disc so I put it in my pile of disc's.
I'm computer illiterate.
I finally looked at the disc.
I got the disc to work at too my amazement there was 3500 games on it.Some working/some not.

Then I saw the Neo Geo spot.(roms)
Then I realized why he gave me the disc.
I suck at using the keyboard to play games.
I have the ports for game contollers and computer games.
I much rather play them on a console or arcade machine.

I was instantly hooked on Neo Geo games.
I was strictly collecting handhelds at the time.
I now wanted Neo Geo games.
I started hunting for My Dream.
A NEO GEO Dedicated cab.with no luck.
I slowed up on buying anything else to get Neo Geo stuff.

Then I got lucky,I was gonna bid on some home carts.(searching Ebay)
I Bumped my search for handhelds by mistake and at the top of the list was NEO GEO.
I had a NGPC with games that I always loved.

I thought the auction was for a NGPC,but it was for an Arcade machine(Dedicated 4 slot)
It was listed wrong.
I bid on it ASAP..In New Jersey too close to me .
I went Crazy..
I was outbid but fought to the end and won.
I bought the guys Tekken 3 too.(Due to a Deadbeat bidder)
I had no clue how I would get it in here and knew nothing about the machine/carts.
I just liked the look of the machine and loved the games.
So now after I got the machine I've been buying tons of carts.
((I'm hooked)).The games are awesome.
Next year I'm focusing on Home carts and a new home NEO GEO.

I still buy and play everything else like Steel Battalion.etc.
But I can't ever get my mind off the Neo Geo stuff.
As for the Mame disc.well I played the emulated games on it.
And I now own the MVS carts of the working Neo Geo games on the disc.
I don't know how to add roms or anthing else so I don't use it.
That stuff is too complicated for me.
That disc has become my doorway back into the Neo Geo.
Playing the games as sort of a demo has made me buy them.
Then I found the forums sent to me by an unknown person who saw me bidding on MVS carts.

Now it all falls in together.

My friend introduced me to MS1 in the arcade and I played it every time I went there. After that I found this site and started talking to people and found a guy a town over from me had it. $200 got me the Neo, 1 controller, and baseball stars 2. I still want another home system, there's nothing better than laying it down next to u TV and staring up in awe. I love that thing.

I think my first real exposure was seeing it on TV on some Nickelodeon gameshow or something. I always thought the games looked interesting... until I found out the price ($600 to an 11 year old is like a million to an adult). My first play experience came not from the Neo, but from a port. I played SNES SamSho. I remember playing it and loving it. After that, I really don't remember having an interest in it because it was hard to find information on. Early this year I started playing SamSho on the SNES and remembering the Neo Geo and how cool it would have been to own one. I downloaded the ROM to see what the real deal was like. After seeing it in action, I KNEW I had to have it in some form or fashion. So, after ass loads of research, I decided on a 4-Slot and a Super Nova Supergun from MAS, and the ROMS were deleted and I play exclusively on my TV now. I also played LB2 on the DC, which was another contributing factor towards my purchase. Actually, I wish I could say I bought the Neo for LB2 instead of SamSho, since I enjoy LB2 more than any other game, on any system. Oh well, SamSho is still a noble reason to buy the Neo.

I played Fatal Fury 1 the very same week I first ever played Street Fighter II. Ahh, those summer day trips to Blackpool were never the same again.

Well, actually, they were always the same, a day trip to Blackpool meant me in an arcade for 12 hours spending my £15 I'd saved up all week by not buying sweets.

Only managed to afford a Neo AES 12 months ago, I've got 16 carts now and KOF2002 on the way! WOO!

For me it was Samurai Showdown 2 and Fatal Fury that got me hooked. They were in this Mom and Pops arcade close to my house and after school me and my friends would head there everyday for hours until he close up for the night. But sadly they shut it down.Buying A Neo Geo at that time was very expensive and no matter how much I beg my folks for one it was impossible because we lived on a budget. Now that I have finally got one after all these years I don't see me stopping playing these great games from a great system.Long Live The Neo Geo.
