Laptop recommendations

I want the diddy one, as basic as can be, maybe add 256MB more RAM,

but .. OMG the CDWriter adds £200 nearly, oh and a paltry 100mhz more. sigh

Has anyone got an IBook such as this? Or are you all rich enough to get Ti powerbooks, I would if I could afford it but meh.

recommendations? comments? user experiences?

The Ibooks are ok, a pretty good value for the money, but the 12 inch powerbook is the best choice for price/performance.

Apple should be updating their laptops any day now. My advice is to wait a few weeks, and see what they introduce during their expo in Paris.

If money is tight (when is it not?) the ibook is a solid option, but get the combo drive. BTW, Apple's prices outside the states are very expensive. Good luck.

I have an 800Mhz iBook with 640Mb of RAM (12").

I love it to death and as much as I dis em from time to time, Mac laptops are the best around.

99% of the time when I'm online at home I'm on my iBook. My PC only gets turned on for HEAVY Photoshop work (the iBook can handle it's own really) and/or gaming.

No viruses, no spyware, no worries. I laughed when I saw the news of the MSBLaster virus and I was sitting back online w/ my Mac. Went upstiars booted the PC (w/o launching Outlook) downloaded the updates to Windows and Norton and was safe.

Also for the price you can't get a better small notebook, although get the DVD/CDRW and the Airport card they make the machine complete. It's slow but it gets the job done, just don't expect to do heavy gaming or iMovie stuff on there. wink

Woot, I wasn't, thanks for the help peeps. You know I came into this thread thinking you'd recommend a MORE POWERFUL x86 laptop..

Nah, I wanted a small, light 12" laptop, I didn't care which kind (hell I might have prefered a PC), but for the price Apple beats them ALL to get something small, light, with a good screen and built in wireless (with TWO antenna's! This thing is a beast when it comes to wireless range).

Wouldn't have got anything else, desptie the fact it required service twice in 3 months...

I'm also a proud owner of the iBook G3.

This thing works like a dream.

Get an Airport Card to go with it,and you'll be web-browsing from the can in no time

The iBooks are great. My sister has the first white ibook, 500MHz, and it still runs great after 2+ years of hard use.
Only thing, DONT buy any extra memory from apple, it can be found much cheaper elsewhere online, and its very easy to install.
I also agree with the 12" G4 powerbook being a slightly better buy, but both are excellent laptops.

Not for a few years yet.

G4 desktops came out about mid-late 1999, but G4 powerbooks came out in the beginning of 2001. So, it'll be a while--maybe early-to-mid 2005--before we hear anything about G5 laptops.

Heh, that and G5's are certifiable radiators. At least it keeps the heating bills low in the winter. wink
