EDIT

The Hard Drive is NOT the faulty part of the system it is the CD/DVD drive that is scratching disks. Thank you

Some of the 250,000 consoles shipped in Japan make scratches on the perimeter of a game disk, said Microsoft Co., the Japanese unit of the world's biggest software maker. The recall comes a week before the console's debut in Europe on March 14.

I think it speaks of the DVD drive, and not the HDD.

Yeah, I initially saw this on GameWatch and thanks to lack luster translation I thought it was the Hard Drive, I then saw a link on PlanetGamecube, took the link without reading thier article and then I flew through the Bloomberg article.

Yes, but the PS2 didn't destroy software. And it wasn't under much pressure to compete against existing consoles.

I knew would give an excuse that the xbox problems were worse then the PS2 kind. It wouldn't destroy disks if those people didn't just toss the game in there.

... I was waiting to see how long it would take for Piccolo to jump in and defend Microsoft's honour (like in EVERY single other xbox thread on this forum)...

Bang!
And Microsoft is missing another toe!

So we can add "unreliable" to the list of things that Japanese consumers will doubtless hate about it!

BTW, someone was saying the Japanese X-Boxes HAVE been made smaller??

If thats true, anyone know by how much?
Also, with overheating being a concern, anyone think it'll cause more problems?

And I'll keep doing it. I'm tired of seeing the xbox as being a failure and heavy piece of crap. It's not, Not everyone's xbox is failing, Can you guys believe that some actually work flawless and *gasp* don't scratch games and play dvds with no skipping. Listen yes xbox has it's problems but guess what, Ps2 had them, GC had them and even DC had them.

Oh and No, the xboxes are not smaller in japan. The controller is the only thing that's been shrunk.

Picolo

Im not Anti-X-box, I'm just saying its gonna be an uphill struggle for it in Japan.

Its bound to be a success in the States!
Its home grown, big, powerful, and stacked full O' sports games!

None of the above will endear it to Japanese consumers ;)

Ive had my first go on a UK one the other day, and it seems to be a good machine!
Too expensive, but nicely made!
It does look like Dr Xavier's briefcase, and Im dissapointed that the logo dosent glow, and project the X-men symbol onto the ceiling (Or any low cloud, a-la Bat signal!)
But you cant have everything!

So, if you're a fan, then tell me about some of the good games?

The hell it didn't. PS2's were eating games like Tic-Tacs when it first came out. Message boards everywhere were flooded about it. My roommate had to return three games and finally his console. Two of my friends back home had to do the same.

Interesting experience. I bought a first run PS2 way before the US launch and saw no problems anywhere. Read about no problems either. In fact the only problem I remember was that Ridge Racer V would mess up your mem card. So if people were having problems with their x-boxes, and a guy who has no life other than reading about game related stuff didn't notice it, it must have been small scale. On the other hand, when the X-Box was released, about 50% of the X-Box purchasing people on the list experienced problems within 2 weeks. So although every system has it's problems, the magnitude of M$'s problem spans beyond acceptabilty. I'm not saying they shouldn't make a game console. I'm saying they shouldn't make a game console so prone to defection.

quite honestly alot of disc scratchings
for the ps2 i think were due to idiots
standing their shitstym on its side
and accidently knocking it over.
i ve actually have put in a disc in a ps2 though.
a music cd)
and it came out scratched.
so it may vary.
but i dont think this type of problem is always
centered on one system.
because i ve seen this happen on DCs too.
only very rarely.
i think its strange that this xbox thing happen
during the jp launch and having the US one do alright.

1) saw the video; link can be found here towards the bottom. :)

2) Yeah, Gates is now the "Chief Software Architect" at MS. He no longer runs day-to-day operations, and I think he's still the primary shareholder, but I guess he wanted a job that's less stressful. I can't say I blame him, frankly.

Would you shut the hell up. God typical anti-xbox reply. If it didn't have a soul the system would come out for 700 bucks like the freakin 3D0 and showcase games that don't show the true power of the system like the Jaguar.

And your saying that the PS2 has a soul that they really care for the gamers...riigghhtt, You believe that. I hate to break it to ya, ALL the companies don't care about the consumers all they want is your money. It's called business.
