All I can say is WOW. Absolutely breathtaking. It was worth it just to see the battle at helms deep. What a movie.

Matt

PS: I'm a little peaved that they moved the shelob's lair scene from the end of two towers to the beginning of Return of the king though. I was looking forward to seeing how they would make her look.

Wait until they make the extended DVD for the Two Towers movie. It might have that scene, if not then we have to wait for The Return of The King.

That's what I'm waiting to see, also seeing shelob's lair would have been a sweet bonus, if it's anything like what I've glimsed of helms deep you know it looks good

Maybe Lucas should have looked at these movies for inspiration on how to mix special effects AND storytelling

You know. That's funny. I was just in an argument as to which was more a more entertaining trilogy thus far. LOTR, or the star wars prequels. And my opinion is that star wars is a total joke compared to these movies. Even the original trilogy wasn't as awe inspiring as the LOTR movies have been so far.

I doubt it would have helped, remember he thought up Jar Jar Binks , even steve king would think of that in his nightmares

Nah. From what I understand, it's confirmed to be in the return of the king. I have a couple theories as to why they did this, but I guess the simplest is that the movie was already super long without tacking on another 10-20 minuite scene with shelob.

179 minutes. Didn't seem like it though, as it just seemed like I was in then out of the theatre.

I really loved the Ents. My favorite part though, just because of the SOUND was when everyone was standing on the walls at Helms Deep and the rain started... hearing it *ping* *ping* *ping* on the armor was awesome.

AS far as George Lucas, he is a monkey fucking bitch. With all the 3D bullshit he uses, he may as well not even USE actors. At least with LOTR is usually pretty hard to tell fake from real scenery. Fuck the Star Wars Prequels and fuck George Luca$.

Just back from Two Towers as well and I agree with all the compliments given so far. Way better than the first one, I was expecting eyecandy but this was beyond my greatest hopes. Gollum is the most convincing CG movie character ever, easily the best graphics I've ever seen. All round eye-popping, jaw-dropping, mind-boggling goodness. Definitely up there with the original Star Wars trilogy.

I can't say one bad thing about the Two Towers. Everything was far better than I could have ever imagined. Of course the best part was the battle at Helms Deep. By far my favorite part of all the books and Peter Jackson Nailed it! The entire movie from start to finish was amazing. The attention to detail was beyond anything I expected. I can't wait until the extended edition is released on DVD next November and then it's on to Return of the King!

Just started a new post on this same topic... sorry , I didnt see thi sone.... Doh! Anyway, it was basically to say the same ... totally awsome movie. Just one thing though.,.. As all this LOTR stuff is new to me, well since the 1st film anyway, it may seem dumb but what are the " 2 Towers ".... are they the tower of the wizard Sauemon (not splet right I know ) and the castle where the battle took place.... are they the 2 towers...? May seem think I know but like I said, I didnt read the books so its all new to me....

P.S. I agree with the Golem CG graphics... very convincing... lost of CG like Jar Jar & Final Fantasy seems to have some kind of unexplanable slowness to their movements, even when they move quick.... Does anyone see that and know what I mean...? Golem didnt have this... it was very fluid and real.

Isengard and Mordor are the 2 Towers. Helm's Deep (Where the final battler took place) is the stronghold of Rohan.

I'd just like to add that Golem is the most convincing CG character ever. I really felt for him...and almost wanted to cry at some parts.

Perhaps the Oscars need a Best CG character category?

I saw it today too.

It was fucking awesome. I liked it WAY better than Fellowship, and I thought that was awesome too. Really really great movie. Well worth the wait.

I saw Star Trek Nemesis again too, right after The Two Towers was over. Heh. Great day.

Speaking of Liv Tyler, I hope she didn't play a big role in this movie... That was the only thing I was worried about... I hope they just put her in a few flashback scenes like the book, cause her expanded role in the first one was more than enough extra shit to give her without making her travel to Helm's Deep too.

Don't worry. She's barely in it. Just the few flashbacks and that's it.

I saw it today, and HOLY SHIT this movie is amazing! The first one amazes me as well, but this one takes it up more than a notch. A true labor of love. Makes me want to do some reading!

I saw a Midnight showing on Tuesday and then saw it again at Noon yesturday. I love LotR SOOO much. I love the little things they did for the people who are big fans of the books. We know they HAD to take stuff out like some of the minor characters. Even though they weren't introduced or developed Ugluk, Grishnak and Quick Beam were all there. (look for Quick Beam in the storming of Isengard he's there)

Tolkien himself never really made it clear which were the two towers. In the film it says Orthanc and Barad-dur. But some people say it is Orthanc and Minas Morgal. I think Tolkien gave the reader discretion to choose for themselves.

I walked away quite pleased. Though the movie, when compared to the book, is hacked quite badly. But given the fact that it is just a movie...all is forgiven. Peter Jackson, thus far, has done an amazing job.

Love the first movie?...love fantasy flicks in general?...then Two Towers is a must see.

I also have to throw in with those saying Gollum/Smeagol was the most convincing CGI character thus far seen in a movie. Move over, Jar-Jar! :D

Who the Hell am I kidding, Jar-Jar was never even in the running. :p

Too bad Hollywood forces directors to keep theatrical releases shorter in run time so they can get the most showings in and make their dough. I would happily sit through a five hour rendition done the way Peter Jackson really wanted to do it.

EDIT: I wish they would have focused some more on the interaction between the Meriadoc, Peregrine and Tree Beard, as well as the storming of Saruman's tower. I also wish that they had managed to fit Tom Bombadil into the movies. :(

I have not seen the movie yet, but am hitting it Saturday at 11AM at the largest screen theater on the East Coast (The Uptown in DC), FotR was AWESOME there.

Anyway, I have heard there is an additional 20 minutes of battle footage from Helms Deep that will most likely be included on the Extended TTT DVD, at least part of it. Only reason it was hacked out was due to running time, otherwise, it would have stayed. Some rumors mill says the exteneded disks might make it to 4 hours, but that is not certain....

Watching the Extended FotR tomorrow night, finally! :)

And, if you have not seen it, check out the special on Bravo, from Page to Screen, on TTT, its real cool. Especially the studio exec talking about going to screen the first movie with PJ, and staring at the posters on the walls of his previous flicks.....

Shadowland, I told you not to read the books first!!!! :) There is NO WAY to do the books justice, you would need maybe 10 to 20 hours each, which means a pathetic budget to back it up. Did you read Return of the King already as well?
