"GBA tops the Japanese sales charts this week, while the GameCube ekes out a victory over the PS2.

According to Bloomberg Japan and research company Media Create, Nintendo's GameCube outsold the PlayStation 2 last week in Japan by a margin of 300 units.

For the week ending August 31, the GameCube sold approximately 35,600 units, while the PS2 sold 35,300 units, according to Bloomberg.

The dispatch posits that the GameCube's strong sales were due to the release of a number of AAA titles, including Namco's Tales of Symphonia and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles from Square Enix.

The long view, however, sees the PS2 as having outsold the GameCube by nearly 1.5 million units, according to Bloomberg.

Overall, with sales of 42,000 units, the Game Boy Advance SP notched first place in system sales this week. The GBA SP has sold consistently, with nearly 1.6 million units sold so far this year.

The original Game Boy Advance sold 12,000 units this week and claimed fourth place. The original PlayStation claimed fifth place, selling 960 units, while Microsoft's Xbox sold 650 units this week"

Nice to see Gamecube making a good run... I always thought the Gamecube and the GBA has a better game library than PS2...

Thats nice to know. The Gamecube is looking like being the weakest of the 3 consoles at the moment(speaking in global terms), with softco's dropping support for it one after the other.
Mabye, just mabye, this will extend its lifespan and strenthen its position.

I hope so. I really like the machine.

What if it does as well next week> Then the week after that? I know it will never reach the PS2 in terms of total sales, but it may be important for the next race.

The way I see Nintendo wining the next race is if the sell compilation disks with 10 or so games to battle PS2 Backward compatibility.

Imagine 20 N64 games made by Nintendo on one disk for there next system, or 50 NES games and 300 SNES games.

That would win them first for almost certain.

I have nothing against Sony I just want to see someone else on top to keep the industry healthy and competitive.

And unfortunately, the 'Cube is still sinking into the quick sand. I would expect this to last... not much longer.

I like the Cube. I like Nintendo. I don't like their business practices.

35,600 units? Sounds like a 2 year sales forecast for the X-Box in Japan.

XBOX's total sale in japan is still under 300,000 or probably even lesser than that.Just an estimate.I just know that it hasn't even reach the 300,000 mark yet.

I don't think the X-Box has sold over 300,000 in Japan. It's a pretty big slap to the face to Microsoft when your system is being outsold by the PS1.

I'm glad to see the GC is getting some decent sales, but this could just mean that almost everyone who wants a PS2 has one already. I wonder if we'll start seeing less and less PS2 sales from now on.

GC outsold the PS2 for that particular week but it's total sale in Japan is still way below PS2's.

The PS2 has sold around 52 million, I think. The X-Box and GC are around 9 or 10 million. I think the GBA has outsold the PS2, but I could be wrong about that.

Is it hard to find a new Dreamcast in Japan? Do they still sell them in stores?

*Agree!!
Nintendo has never marketed a free "demo" disc. If they would just mass produce them (along with demo e-reader cards) and distribute them through a magazine (yes, perhaps unfortunately Nintendo Power) then tack on a few old school classics they would be closer to being #1. Anyway, I wish they'd make a remake of Duck Hunt for the 'cube, with the same plastic neon orange gun crying
Oh yeah, and Nintendo + Sega = :D
Super Monkey Ball, F-Zero GX, just think of the future possibilities.

Synopsys: Nintendo wins a battle but is loosing the war. :p

What's extra funny is how people hate PS2 for having so many more shit titles for it than there are AAA titles, yet the GBA is far more guilty of this crime and gets herald as the second coming...

I don't really think I can agree that everyone that wants a PS2 has one. If you look at the numbers, the GCN sales aren't ALL that much higher than the PS2s.

Of course, those PS2 sales are for repeat buyers whose consoles break. eek!

And as far as the GBA being the "second coming," the only reason people see it that way here on the Neo boards is because of it's 2D capabilities. I mean, if we wanted flashy 3D crap, we'd have abandoned the Neo long ago, right?

If the recent releases of FFCC and TOS are any indication on why the sales of GCN has boosted up.
Then i dont see why Nintendo just dont release a true Pokemon RPG over there.Looking at Pokemon sales and the GBA sales.Im pretty sure it can do wonders for GCN.Those other Pokemon games on Gamecube are ok but i would rather see a RPG version like the Gameboy versions.Im pretty sure it would sale many Gamecubes!

I am darn happy with the cube. I couldn't put the ps2 or Xbox in my schedule basically lol.

It is to my surprise as to why everyone thought it was a 3rd rate console here in America as well..

I guess people believe everything they see.

Funny enough... I have been pushing Gamecube hardware/software. There has been a big increase in cube sales. I have been seeing it within the last few months.

Xbox sales though..... I am not saying this to take a shot at it... but I don't/won't carry Xbox stuff because I always lose $ on it. EVEN ON KILLER DEALS I GET FROM PEOPLE... its nuts. I showed my auctions to a couple people here I normally talk with... they couldn't believe how low the crap was going for. I have sold 2 big packages, and maybe... MAYBE 5-6 more Xbox games.. thats it.

oh well...
and now for the cube propaganda.
BUY A GAMECUBE TODAY! OWN TOMORROWS BEST CONSOLE :D lol. ok .. thats enoug.
