Eidos has decided to stop suport on GCN. OK, so they never made much, but this all smells like N64 all over again.

I really wanted Nintendo to succeed this time around and come out ahead, but that's obviously not going to happen. And for some reason, I can see them fucking it all up AGAIN with the succesor to the Cube. I mean, this is 2 generations now where more than a year before a new console comes out that publishers have begun to pull support. This is all bringing back the bad visions of Sega before they went 3rd party (which was an EXCELLENT idea given the shape they were in and the quality of their 1st party stuff).

Next gen will be interesting, if only to see how badly Nintendo fucks up again.

BTW, I used to be a Nintendo fan boy, but when the RPG support wasn't to be had on the N64, I started branching out. I really love Nintendo, but I hate their business practices.

Thoughts?

Hmm...

So I guess that means they won't be getting any more Tomb Raider games. Truly, a shame. wink

Now, that leaves three more platforms Eidos has to pull support for (including PC). :D

Nintendo has lost its soul since the SNES/Super fami days.
Anyone hardcore Nin nut will tell you this.
64 was the worst Nin move IMO. It lost a important audience.
I am totally out of this generation anyway.
I just bought Xenosaga tonight to.

Games drop in price quick. Since nobody has the interest.
Lets face the music, things are not improving. Its just a war of bad sales between XBOX, PS2 & NGC.
PS2 is beating both out, which is amazing, cause I've had more probs with my ps2 then my NGC.
Nintendo needs to take there position more seriously, and recruit some real talent. Pokemon cant fund them forever. I hate pokemon anyway.

I want a true Legend of Zelda for cube.
Not that short ass game that was wind waker.

A SOLID GAME.
Like link to the past.
Give me a super punch out sequal.
I havent had anything to look forward to, and its making me realize what a has been of a gamer I've become.

A lot of people hate Pokemon. But there is one small detail you forgot. Has there been ANY Pokemon title for the 'Cube released? Not that I am aware of, though I believe you were only trying to make a point.

And if anyone complains about the Cube not having mature games, look at Eternal Darkness. 2nd party mature Nintendo game and did it sell? No. What picture does this paint for Nintendo? Nobody wants mature games on the Cube. They don't look at the fact that by the time they released this ONE mature title it was too little too late, as the machine already had the "kiddie" branding no real gamer wanted to see.

Ouch.

Fuck you, you forgot Sega. :( crying

Seriously though, Sega, Nintendo, and Capcom are really the only ones that come to mind as having multiple GC titles worth owning. That's a huge step forward from n64 which had, uh, Nintendo.

Although, recently, how many games have you seen come out on the Cube from Sega? F-Zero doesn't count since that's Nintendo's title. I can't even think of the last one off the top of my head. All I am thinking is Skies of Arcadia (one of the best RPGs ever).

quality over quantity

I'd rather take one in-house Nintendo release per year than 5000 shitty 3rd party attempts

(hear me roar Sony, MS)

Heh, I was counting FZ as a sega title, but I suppose if I'm counting Eternal Darkness as a ninteno title, that's really not fair. Honestly, the Sega releases for cube have slowed down. I'm still enjoying SMB2, SSS, and the SA1 remake though.

The lack of quality 3rd party titles is not upsetting me in any way though, that's a direct result of the way good old nintendo treats it's 3rd party developers. I haven't been a nintendo hardware fan since the days of the snes and the Dreamcast and Saturn dying pretty much made me not give two shits about any particular hardware platform. I don't give a fuck if the PS2, XB, or GC gets the game I want, I'll buy it and not bitch that it's exclusive to a piece of hardware that's made by a company I dislike.

I will have to agree with you on not caring what system a game comes out on, I'll buy it regardless. I just wish there were more games I could choose to buy on the Cube, rather than buying the PS2/X-Box version.

And the practice of wiping their asses on third parties is one major business practice I dislike Nintendo for. Of course, the Cube was supposed to be a turning point for Nintendo where they were supposed to be taking a less strict role and offer better licensing deals. Either they didn't do a good enough job, or liscensors just don't give a fuck about Nintendo any more.

I also agree with everyone that losing Eidos wasn't that big of a deal, but implications for others to follow does bother me. Just another failed Nintendo attempt. I'd like to see them come out on top next time, but I just can't see that happening. Maybe if they release their new system in the same time frame as the PS3, have a great launch line up with guaranteed 3rd party support with more Mature/Teen games, MAYBE they could pull something off. Relying only on 1st/2nd party titles didn't sell N64s (with the exception of Mario 64) and it doesn't appear to be working for the Cube.

Most of the games that are released under the Nintendo name is not even produced by Nintendo anymore. They always have other companys make them.

Actually, according to this months GMR (which, by the way had a VERY good 4+ page spread on nintendos future plans) the big N is supposed to be giving a lot more input/help to their third partys devs. One reason for the big N's lack of 3rd Party Devs that was mentioned that I've never heard before was that third party devs can't compete with the first party stuff. Which makes sense, what dev wants to compete their third party stuff against the likes of Mario or Zelda? spock
Anyway, it's a good read and I would recommend anyone to at least pick this issue up and read this article. They answer a lot of the questions that everyone is asking. Like what Nintendo plans to about the PSP? How are they going to shed the kiddy image. (incidentally, even Nintendo agrees that the indigo GCs looked like 'lunchboxes'. When asked about the online situation they say "Don't assume that were doing nothing behind closed doors". Whatever that means. Maybe the PSO ventures were an experiment, who knows... In any event, They made it clear that they were NOT losing money on their consoles and that they WERE making a profit in general. Maybe i'll post some excerpts later today.

Time Splitters 2 is the only good series I know that Eidos brought out on GC... But they've just droped Free Radicals upcoming TS3. Apparently Eidos wants to focus all of its attention on Tomb Raider
oh_no

Now if Eidos will just stop making games for the rest of the consoles tickled

Serves 'em right.

The cube is worthless anyway. With the possible exception of games like Beach Spikers, Monkey Ball, and any game made by Nintendo, all you get are me-too, shovel ware ports that can be found on any other next-gen system.

I liked the good ol' days of SNES and Genesis where games were exclusive to their respective consoles.
