Serious Sam troubles

I bought Serious Sam from KB for 19.99. I took it home and it ran terrible. Ir froze up all the time not slowdown, froze for a few seconds at a time. And then when I made it to level 2 it froze again and then a screen came up and said "error the disc may be dirty or damaged" so I took it back and the new copy did the same thing except I made it to level 3 before I got the error screen. I dont think its my XBOX because my other games work fine. Anyone else have this problem?

I had the EXACT SAME problem. My original copy of SS had some choppiness when running, and on occasion would freeze completely, then pop up that exact same error. I finally took it back and exchanged it, and my new copy hasn't done that nearly as much. However there is some occasional choppiness.

Not sure what the cause of this is. Might be a good idea to call Gotham Games in Baltimore MD (410-933-9191) and ask if they are aware of any similar problems with SS. I think I'll call them too, just to clear this up. BTW that phone number is from the back of the SS manual.

Oh and the email address for them is support@gothamgames.com

Another problem I have is I'm leaving for Michigan today and I wont be back until Christmas. I hate leaving issues like this idle for a long time. It makes things look suspicious on my part, or at least I think so ;)

Check this thread:

I have the same problem, check the serial in the interior of the DVD...

I have to return to kbtoys twice, the second time I just told them to give me credit b/c I can't be running around.

Anyway, good luck. I do find that if I turn the music all the way down (the volume from the control panel, pause the game), I was able to play the game up to level 3 before I got major motion sickness. Try that!

Well my first copy was bad, and the second copy appears to be working better, although it still has long load times (progress bar goes to about 95%, then takes a WHILE to get that last bit loaded and seems to be struggling to load). I called Take2games tech support at the number I previously provided above, and they sent me this email:

In order to further diagnose your problem, please give us the following
information about your Xbox system:

1 - What type of controllers do you have plugged into the system? Do
you
have any other peripherals attached to the Xbox?

2 - Look on the bottom of the Xbox and write down the following
numbers:
Manufactured Date:
Serial Number:
Model Number:

3 - What is the serial number on the back of your Serious Sam disc?

For product purchasing, manuals, replacements, exchanges or refunds
please

So I'll have to decide if my current problems are bad enough to return the disc to them. I haven't had any more freezes with the bad/dirty disc error, but still the load time is there and some choppiness. Besides that the game plays GREAT, shame that it doesn't seem to be 100% though.

What a bunch of crock. It has been well documented that there is a BATCH of bad discs.... Telling them what controller it is plugged in isn't going to help "BAD DISC ERROR".... dumbasses.

The thing is, during normal gameplay this game is FANTASTIC. The XBox port really controls well and is a blast to play. The load time issues, choppiness, and (worst case) freezing may be due to defective discs, or to specific problems with XBox consoles. Its hard to say at this point, but I tend to think there were a LOT of defective discs out there, and Take2Games is going to have to sort it out, sooner or later. Beyond that, the graphics, control, sounds, and gameplay are TOPS.

Not necessarily. If you follow the link posted by LastBlade (and btw thanks for that link!), you'll see some people list various serial numbers that are good or bad. Here is that link again:

http://forums.seriouscommunity.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25486

Look for the sections about serial numbers, good and bad. I'm going to check my copy later tonight and will post which "batch" it is from.

You welcome Chip.

Yah, I think that's what they are doing, reducing the price to clear the stock of the bad copies (but you may find good copies as well).... What a shady practice. I know I am not buying another one of their games.
