Okay, I know its a bad thing, illegal and all. And this probably isnt the place to talk about. Im not begging for roms or anything, dont worry. just curious if any other Neo Freaks like me are into emulation, not just for neo-geo, but for other systems, which are, politically, past there time. I am not saying its anywhere close to being as real as the fake thing. But honestly, if you had the chance to once again play a rare, very hard to find Genesis game or SNES game, without paying a hefty cash wad, wouldnt you take it?

I publically state that I use ROMs, and I'm pretty big into Emulation in and out of the Neo realm of it.

That said I own my fair share of carts, and it's increasing.

But don't let the flame responses you'll get fool you, a vast majority of people here do in fact use ROMS, some more than others, but they do use them quite a bit.

Peace

I with J Hendrix

I'm out of the closet

i use roms as well - but i guess you all know that since i dont hide it

totally happy with older games which are no longer financially viable to the company

or for 'sheep dip' purposes

but if you just use roms to play and never intend on buying the emulated product you are playing

then <img src="graemlins/shame.gif" border="0" alt="[Shame]" /> <img src="graemlins/shame.gif" border="0" alt="[Shame]" /> <img src="graemlins/shame.gif" border="0" alt="[Shame]" /> <img src="graemlins/shame.gif" border="0" alt="[Shame]" /> <img src="graemlins/shame.gif" border="0" alt="[Shame]" />

I do myself. I just got NesterDC for my Dreamcast for my buddy (a NES emulator). The only reason I play roms is because I play MAME. The main reason is because a lot of great arcade games have never been ported to a home systme, and if they have, they have been watered down for the home cosole (Genesis and SNES) If companies would just port these games in their full arcade glory to any of the next-gen systmes, I'd buy them in a second.

Oh well none of them seem to do it or get the point :D .

totally agreed

how i yearned for a perfect shinobi port on the genesis

same goes for Splatterhouse

Splatterhouse 2+3 are great games - just not the same pedigree as the first part

I used to play with NES ROMS, but for some reason I only played the games I owned (maybe 'cause they were the only good ones). I also used MAME a couple of times for nostalgia purposes (at which point I found out Domino Man and Timber weren't as fun as I remembered). I also messed with the SamSho ROM, which was the clincher for me buying my MVS 4 Slot and Super Gun. I haven't picked up or used a ROM since then, which was January/Feb of '02.

I have a cool job where I get paid well enough, so if there is a game I want to play, or had wanted to play, I buy the damn thing. A lot of ROMMERS are college students on a budget (or lack of a budget). Do I agree with it? Not really, but I won't flame someone for using one IF THEY ARE EMULATING GAMES PAST THEIR PRIME. If you're emulating/pirating DC or newer... FUCK OFF (unless you own the original).

You're not alone. :)

I stick to Roms that haven't been out in ages such as SNES and Neo Geo.

Once I buy a game that I have a rom for, I delete the rom as I have no more use for it.

I play NesterDC stuff. Playing NES games with a DreamCast pad is kinda neat, and playing on a TV is much more tolerable than the computer monitor. I'm too l337 for my own good. I totally hate emulation for any current system, especially for the Neo.

I met this one guy in EB and asked him if he was into the Neo, and he was saying, "Yeah! I've got teh romz on my computer!" <img src="graemlins/shame.gif" border="0" alt="[Shame]" /> He didn't want to hear about how they paled to the real deal. (Actually, all the Neo romzzzzz I've played, which were games I owned anyway, were NOTHING like the Neo counterpart, either in appearance or control.)

I only play NES romzzzzz, 'cause the system is dead.

::EDIT:: The DreamCast: What CAN'T it do?

I'm with these guys. 90% of arcade games were never ported to home consoles and if they were, they were usually so butchered and watered-down that they were worthless. We all know about the copyright issues and whatnot, but to tell you the truth, what the hell is wrong with playing arcade games on your PC if they're not making money for their creators anymore and haven't in years?

I might as well say it also. I totally play ROMS. I am a die hard emulation freak. I play MAME, Nebula, Gens, ZSNES, you name it. Do I still buy the real thing? Of course I do. I just use the roms to try it out and then if I find myself playing that tile often, I will fork over the cash for it. Case in point, the NEO GEO.

I couldn't agree more with you. I don't understand why companies such as Konami and Capcom don't port their great arcade titles to one of the next-gen systems.

What about games like Alien vs. Predator, X-Men, Metamorphic Force, Donpachi, DoDonpachi, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade game, TMNT: Turtles in Time, GI-JOE, Sunset Riders, King of Dragons, Final Fight, Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow of Mysteria, Cyberbots, Dragon Spirit, Heavy Barrel, and the list goes on and on and on.

The only re-releases we get are 54 collections with Pac Man on them. No offense but I'm getting a little tired of Pac Man. There seems to be a gap from 1979-1998 of arcade games perfectly ported to a home console. Why not make a collection of all the great Capcom or Konami arcade games that were made in the 90's? Is that really that hard. If they did such a thing, my days have having to deal with roms would be over and I'd glady pay any price for those titles.

If Capcom would just put out Alien vs. Predator for all of the systems now, I would glady pick it up for even $50. Now that's a game!!

I almost never use roms, especially not in the last few months. When I first got into the neo I emulated a few games to see what they were like, but I have gotten so disgusted with the emu scene now that I can't see myself using an emulator for a long time. I have enough great games to play on the systems I own, and anything I want I can just buy unless it's some crazy rare neo title. It makes me sick when people are emulating new games and I feel disgusted to even be downloading anything from those dirty emu sites anymore.

Indeed, I have that version on my nifty Sega CDX, but I wanted perection. Although I do love the music. It's nice and pumped up. The only thing the arcade version has is more color and the ability to fit more guys one screen. I noticed the Sega CD could handle a lot less enemies.

But for a port, it is very nice. Although the guy who does the voice for the intro screen needs to be shot......immediately :D .

Well this is at least a decent topic,

the kid is not trying to provoke anyone,

just trying to have a conversation I guess.

Oh and I hate roms no matter what kind,

specially the Neo ones.

I too have an intrest in emulation and have several different forms of emulation on one of my pc's.

Yes I own 24 MVS carts at last count and around 20-30 actuall arcade machines , so no Im not just a rom whore !

The truth of the matter is emulation will never bring the same presentation an actuall dedicated cab will. and for that reason I will always own and love the real deal.

Face it emulation is out there and always will be no matter what ! be it good bad or whatever it will always continue to be there.

I say go for the real deal, even arcade games. Grab the PCB and enjoy the real thing. Still, emulation for arcade games doesn't bother me much, since they were never ment to be commercially available in the first place. It's just the hoser that's too cheap to support the people that brought him the game he/she enjoys, epecially when you can grab it at TRU for $20 bucks. That's the kind of person that bugs me.

Neutral party here, more or less. I buy and emulate recent games with no preference toward either.

However, with regards to games that are out of ANY consumer's reach (because they are too old or rare or out of circulation or whatever), I will not only tolerate emulation thereof, I will encourage it. If the makers of the game in question will receive no money for the game's purchase, then depriving oneself of that game for legality's sake is not only silly, it's insane.

I remember that guy who was burned for asking about the Double Dragon ROM. All he wanted was freaking Double Dragon, which dates back to the mid 80s, but he was beat down like he was asking about Rage of the Dragons, barely a year old. If I wasn't so self-restraining, I would have been just about ready to take his side.

But that wasn't the worst that could happen. Now, if I see someone get flamed for asking about Atari 2600 emulation, I'm leaving this forum altogether.

(suddenly realizing what deep shit I've dug myself into and what little sense it makes) Um, I'll just be running along now BAIBAI!

I only use ROMS to try out games for a few minutes to see if there worth buying. I don't sit there and play the game for hours or beat the whole game. If I like the game, then I buy it.

I rarely use ROMS though as I allready know which games I want and which ones I'll like.

I don't care if the game is a arcade game or some old NES/Atari game. If you play the game and like it, buy the real thing.

Final Fight PCB is only around $20 on ebay lately btw.
