After getting issue #64 of Playstation Mag from a friend I popped in the demo disk that featured WOTM, shinobi and some other stuff. I'm thinking that since Incog did a cool job on Twisted Metal: Black this should be good, boy was I wrong.

I spent a good hour or more on it to give it a good chance but it only just made me want to play some good 'ol King Of The Monsters. I give em at least a B+ for effort but it really didn't appeal all that well to me (OPM was busting a nut over it ). Yeah it has that B-movie Godzilla/King Kong feel to it but SNK did it better (and in 2-D no less)

For those who haven't played the demo you get to choose from your typical King Kong type and your giant eyeball with an electrical body. The arena is your normal downtown area filled with building, cars, and people you can step on. With all that it leads to at least five minutes (the cpu tends to run once it's getting it's ass whipped or maybe more game time since the demo lets you use the two player option.

Needless to say I spent more time playing the shinobi demo (had to give the actual game a rest for once) since I felt that WOTM's key group was either those who haven't played KOTM or is 16 and down. Or maybe it's just after playing the hell out of GTA: VC senseless violence just doesn't do it for me anymore.

With that said and done have any other members got a chance to play it? Comments please.

i only played it at E3, but now i will keep an eye out for the demo, thank you!

to me, it seemed to be a blast.
i picked it up quick, and had a good romp with it with my friend.
it seems thats what it'll be good for, a quick romp.

there isn't oceans of depth in the game...and that's ok with me. maybe they ruined it since then; so I'll give it another go.

Yea everytime I play that demo of War of the Monsters,I think of King of the Monsters.

I like the game but I wouldn't pay $50.00 for it.
I wonder, did they steal the idea from SNK or Takara?
The game just reminds me of a upgraded king of the Monsters.
I did/do play the Shinobi demo more though.

I finished Vice City but started a new game on another memory card.
I'm trying to complete the missions differently using cheats.LOL

I'm used to the Steel Battalion controller now but it's not as easy to place down as the PS2 controller.

It's funny you should mention that, here's a quote from Stephen Frost the senior editor at PSM in PSM issue#64 vol.6:

I'm sorry but just from the demo all it seemed and felt like was just a mindless brawler with monsters tossed in on the TMB engine

From what little I've seen/heard/read about it, the "depth" seems to come from the fact that you can use just about anything in the environment as a weapon - i.e., you can grab helicopters, cars, etc. and toss them at your opponent. Add to the fact that people can either team up against the CPU, or fight against one another, and it looks to have some nice multi-player capabilities as well.

Again, since I haven't actually played it, I'm just going by the impressions that I've gathered.

I'm planning on picking it up myself either way. It's only going to be $39.99 anyway, and being a HUGE fan of giant monster movies, I figure I can't go wrong, especially for that price! ;)

Let me know what it's like when you get, cause from the demo I wasn't impressed at all. I got more enjoyment out of playing my KOTM 2 port on my snes

For my part, I had an absolute blast with the demo, and I'm quite hopeful for the finished product.
