Bloodstorm was actually a much better game than Time Killers! But it got such limited distribution (and no home release, a PSX version was announced but cancelled) that most people didn't even get to play it.
While the main appeal of the game was obviously the bloody fatalities and cutting off people's arms and legs and all that stuff, there was actually a wealth of secrets in the game. In 1P games there were ways to fight like... eight different hidden characters I think? And you had to find and beat them all to get the best ending or something... which was nearly impossible without the help of a FAQ. Oh, and the "trash talking" you can do after winning was hilarious! It's the only fighting game ever to let people put up all these hidden messages on the screen just by hitting certain button combinations after the round is over. "YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT THIS GAME... GO BUY EGM" is downright cold. Talking shit AND telling them to buy EGM of all things, ouch! tickled (well okay, EGM was better in those days.)
plus the fact that it had a password function to save your stats for the "gauntlets" you've won as well as tracking the number of matches won, and how many heads and arms you've chopped off. Such a great idea that also has never really been attemped in other arcade fighting games.... which is a pity.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go play some Lee Carvalo's <sp?> Putting Challenge.
