NO there is no new castlevania game announced.

But I feel there should be...how do you all feel?
What system would you like to see this game for?
What kind of gameplay mechanics would you like to see?
What kind of engine would you like to see it use?

Personally, I think they could make a beautiful Castlevania game in the same vein as Devil May Cry, or, DMC's son, Rygar.

A lot of people don't like DMC...why? I don't know, they've got autism or something...personally i think it was a beautiful and FUN as hell game. Very linear, yes....but this could be fixed right?

To be honest, it felt like i was playing a new Castlevania while playing DMC...

Sure, i would love another 2d castlevania game. Could you imagine if the developers created a castle that took up the entire media format? [DVD]
THAT would be a journey...the largest 2D sidescroller ever? Sounds like a momentous occasion.

I just don't think its going to happen from Konami.

What do you all think?

I don't think we have seen the last of Castlevania at all. The GBA versions had sold well, and in the past it's always been a hot title for Konami. I would be more confident in saying that we will continue to see it on GBA, which I believe we will, but I'm almost as sure a new console game will pop up one day as well.
You know, that gets me thinking, I wish Castlevania:Resurrection had come out for the DC. Maybe a beta exsists somewhere. (http://dreamcast.ign.com/articles/132/132004p1.html)

If Konami would put the kind of effort it did back in '96 with SotN on a current-generation system, imagine the results... and just think if it were done in hi-res, like GGX. It would be godlike. To be honest, the SotN style of play became a little worn out with HoD. It's time for something a little different. What, I don't know. Hopefully still 2D, for the love of god! <img src="graemlins/drool2.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool 2]" />

Yeah DMC was a cool game, but i have this rigid train of thought that no 3d game should car ry the name of something that was in 2d.ever.

Personally id like to see a new 2d Castlevania on the GC, but i would settle for a PS2 version.

They could add some 3d backgrounds like in Dracula X/SOTN, but keep the play totally 2d.

They should try and persuade Nintendo to let Retro Studios make a 3D version.

I think that a Castlevania in the style of DMC would rock. I really would prefer a high-res 2d game (I still feel a bit cheated at HoD switching from PS2 to GBA) but I think they could do a great game in this style. The problem with the N64 Castlevainas was the shit camera and they fact that they tried to keep it as a platformer. The only thing I would want would be a bit more backtracking/exploration than DMC.

Personally a new 2d version on a next gen system would be fantastic. I would really hope they bring back Alucard for a new adventure and maybe some guest appearances from Richter or maybe another new Belmont. 3D just has not been a strong pointwhen it hs come with the castlevania series. DMC was a great game but go back to a new 2d game on a new system other then the GBA and I would be happy.

The problem with the DC version was that it had the exact same gameplay as the n64 ones that were panned by pretty much everyone. Konami would be fools to release a game that naff again.

There was an interview with the Castlevania producer a months ago. He wants to do the DraculaX : Chi no Rondo remake for PS2 before he sets forth on a new game. He did say that if he did CastleVania in 3d it would be much more Devil May Cry and nothing like the horrid N64 games.

I'd like to see a new Castlevania in 2-d but but powered by naomi hardware(MvC2 & GGX), slap it on a dvd-rom and just imagine the mind-numbing possibilities on the ps2, cube, or the box.

Storywise I say either take the one from the DC or at least give these two a diffrent story to work with:

I'm all for having a female Belmont this time around(they have to be more then just breeding fodder), and maybe for kicks have the birth of Alucard tossed in or something.

1.> I for one would love a new VAMPIRE KILLER game (I don't like the Castlevania name, always pick the JPN name)

2.> It would have to be avalialbe for all current systems, everyone should have a Vampire Killer game IMO.

3.> The game would have to be HI-RES 2D and marry all the elements of Vampire Killer X: Rondo of Blood (PCE DUO) and Vampire Killer Dracula X: "Nocturne In the Moon Light"(PSone) with some newer play mechanics, another full symphonic orchestral touch to it, have mulitple paths, the ability to select several different characters at the begining.

4.> Again it would HAVE to be 2D GODliness. There too many 3D games out there, something like this would help perpetuate the 2D format for years to come. I mean, if ppl love playing there GBAs so much and it's 2D what's the big fuckin' difference if something is in 3D on the home system but only 2D on the portable? I have never understood the division of thought ppl have on this matter.

I don't really favor either a 2-D or 3-D route. I liked the N64 version (despite the camera) and I felt that it was executed fairly well in the general vein of Castlevania games.

What Konami really needs to do, is move away from the "wander around this giant castle" formula and make another game like Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. I.E.- Backtracking, day/night factor(I can't believe this wasn't exploited more in games, a genius touch, and on the 8-bit NES!), multiple smaller castles (Mansions in CV2) leading up to the final confrontation in Drac's large-ass castle.

With the DVD format, you could really make a bad-ass 2-D or 3-D game with these elements in it. Although if they went 2-D, it would be REQUISITE that they use high-res sprites.

Also looking back on it, perhaps some kind of team-based Castlevania? I don't know how practical it would be, but its definitely a different play-mechanic than the standard adventure/RPG.

What hurt devil may cry was the emphasis on trying to be trendy and stylish without the control and gameplay. Man, it was so hard to correctly position certain off the wall jumps. I mean, even Mario 64 had better control. I also don't like the idea of a gun that you never have to reload. It's too much to ask for IMO. Throwing boomerang crosses in accordance with hearts collected worked for me because the game was already abstract enough, but guns and near photorealist graphics remove a lot fo the abstractions needed to help me restrain my logic sensors.

That and the Setsuna look is so 1998. Let's put the white haired hunk to rest. Capcom should display more originality than ripping on SNK designs, eh.

As for a new Castlevania game, I'm for it. I don't know if I'd play it. I loved it on the NES and GBA, and wanted to play the PSX version, but never did. Like Rygar and Metroid, it'll be one of the games I loved from when I was a kid but never play as I grow up. Or I might play it. You know, if it's on a system I already own, like the Neo Geo, Dreamcast, or Gamecube. I wouldn't mind seeing something with a masculine hero, like Billy Cohen from Resident Evil 0. You know, a guy that looks like a mechanic at a gas station in BumfuktEgypt. I'm really tired of sexually ambiguous heroes. I'm not gay, so guys like Alucard aren't appealing. Can't speak for the rest of you though. Despite my preference for a masculine type of character, if the story is similar to that of Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust (regardless of homolicious D is), I'm totally game. I loved the enemy design in that anime. It was perfect. Especially if you fight against people like the Marcus Brs. :D

Either way, why is it that the only interesting releases these days are the ones that are based on the NES classics? Does that mean that in 10 years the hot new game will be the new Tohshinden? I hope not.

It IS in production, for PS2 if my memory serves me right. I thought you people knew this?

Konami confirmed it too and its suppose to come out sometime in 2003. There was a huge dicussion about this on one of the other boards a month or two ago.
