I am very new at buying Neo AES games and would like to know how many AES games have found their way to OTHER SYSTEMS. Have heard that some games appear on PSX and/or Dreamcast. Please educate me. I thank you for your efforts. AND, are these ported games to other systems any good and/or like the SNK Originals? Looking for help. <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

I think the best SNK ports are on the Dreamcast (I love that system). Ports are also on:

Sega Genesis
SNES/Super Famicom
Dreamcast
Psx
Psx2
Saturn

I'm sure I am missing some.

Just to start this out, there are no perfect ports of Neo Geo games on any other system.

---------------------------------------------
Genesis/Mega Drive: Most Genesis ports are not too bad. You can always expect the usual missing frames of animation and inferior sound. Plus the Genesis also had a limited colour palette (64 colours on a screen at a time)which made the ports lose some colour in the process.

Fatal Fury: Good port by Takara. A better buy then the SNES version. Missing two characters from the Neo Game. Also includes the two playing fields that were present in the Neo version. I like this port.

Fatal Fury 2: Also not too bad of a port by Takara. Not as colourful as the Neo version due to the Genesis limited colour palette. Sounds not great, but not bad either.

Samurai Showdown: Missing the zoom in and zoom out effect. Missing one character from the Neo version (Earthquake). Graphics not too bad and the sounds are acceptable. Plays ok too.

Art of Fighting: Again, no scaling effect (Zooming) in the game. Sounds are terrible. Characters sound like they are underwater. Graphics are ok and plays ok. Plus, most of the cutscenes from the Neo are there too.

World Heroes: Really bad port. Terrible sounds, graphics, but especially the controls. Very unresponsive. Bad game.

King of Monsters: Not a bad port. Graphics are good and sound is good too.

King of Monsters 2: The Neo version is pretty colourful so that is pretty noticable in this port. Otherwise the sound is ok and it controls ok and is a pretty good port.

2020 Baseball: Never played it, so can't help you with this one.

Viewpoint: Pretty good. The music certainly doesn't compare with the Neo version. Graphics are acceptable and it play well and is fun.

---------------------------------------------
Sega CD/Mega CD:

Fatal Fury Special: Never played it on Sega CD.

Samurai Showdown: Never played it either.

Sengoku (Japan only): I'm not sure, but I think it exists.

---------------------------------------------
Super Nintendo/Super Famicom: Overall, the SNES ports were quite good. The SNES has a better sound chip then the Genesis and had a larger colour palette (256 colours on screen). Again, missing frames of animation is what to expect from these ports

Fatal Fury: Looks pretty good. Has all the characters from the Neo version. Controls are a bit unreponsive and the sound is terrible. Also one major flaw is that the game is missing the two playing fields found in the Neo and Genesis version. They took out the one distinguishing feature from the Fatal Fury series. Not a very good port by Takara here. Genesis version is a better port.

Fatal Fury 2: I liked this port. With exception of missing frames of animation, this is a good port. Good sound, graphics and gameplay.

Fatal Fury Special: Another good port. Same as Fatal Fury 2. Also includes Ryo from Art of Fighting. So if you win every round you fight him in the special challenge match. Good Port.

Samurai Showdown: The SNES version contains all of the characters from the Neo version, but the port is somewhat disappointing. There is no scaling effect for one (This was probably a good thing because it didn't work well with Art of Fighting on the SNES). The characters also are much smaller then the Genesis version. There are lot's of missing sounds too such as the shinto chants. And where is the "IPPON" when a character wins. Plus the swords when they clash don't really have a "Kerrching" sound effect to them. Besides theses flaws, the game is still very playable.

Art of Fighting: Scaling effect is intact. But animation looks sloppy as hell and the backgrounds look aweful because you can see them up close due to the zooming effect. Controls are ok and the sounds are not bad either. Not a great port, but not the worst. I really don't know which is better between the SNES and the Genesis version.

Art of Fighting 2: I know it exists, but only in Japan. Never played it though. I can't imagine this being a good port considering the size of the game on the Neo.

World Heroes: Good port here. Controls good and the graphics and sound are good too. A much better port then the crappy Genesis version of the same game.

World Heroes 2: Great Port. Almost everything from the Neo version is here. Sounds great, looks great and it plays well too.

King of Monsters: A good port just like the genesis version. A little more colour and better sound.

King of Monsters 2: Also a good port. The graphics and sound are a little better then the Genesis version.

Bust-a-Move: It's Bust-a-Move! A little different then the Neo one, but it's fun.

Sengoku: I'm pretty sure this came out in Japan. Never played it though.

2020 Baseball: Never played it.

Sonic Wings (Aerofighters in U.S): Never played it.

Legend of Success Joe (Japan only): Never played it.

Fighters History: Never played it.

Magical Drop 2 (Japan only): Never played it.

Magical Drop 3 (Japan only) Never played it.

I also know there is a port of one of the racers from the Neo. Does anyone know which one it is? I can't remember. Also, I think there is a dodgeball game as well.

---------------------------------------------

Super CD rom2 (This is a PC-Engine add on): Never played any of these ports. I heard they are pretty good ports though.

*All games are Japan only*

Fatal Fury 2

Fatal Fury Special

Art of Fighting

World Heroes 2

---------------------------------------------
Panasonic 3DO:

Samurai Showdown: Pretty good port for it's time. Missing frames of animation and the sounds are a little off. Loading occurs a little before the fights begin. Certainly not a bad port though.

Bust-a-Move: Never played it.

---------------------------------------------
Sega Saturn: I like the Saturn ports of Neo games more then the Playstation ones. The extra ram (due to the ram cart) certainly helps.

King of Fighters 95 (Japan and Euro only): Never played it on Saturn.

King of Fighters 96 (Japan only): Never played it either. There is a good review of this game on the Reviews section.

King of Fighters 97 (Japan only): I've played it and think it's a pretty good port. There are missing frames of animation and the sound seems a little muted, but it's an ok port if you can deal with the loading times. Also check the review section of this site for the review.

Fatal Fury 3 (Japan only): Pretty good port. Some slowdown and missing frames and the load times are a bit long. But I like it.

Real Bout Fatal Fury (Japan only): Never played it.

Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (Japan only): I thought the Saturn port of this game was quite good. Besides some missing frames of animation and the loading times it's really well done.

Samurai Spirits 3 (Japan only): Pretty good port. Graphics and sound are quite nice. Again, some missing frames from the Neo version, but otherwise not too bad and certainly much better then the Playstation port.

Samurai Spirits 4 (Japan only): A decent port. It does have some slowdown though that bogs down the action at times. Other then that, it's quite good.

Magical Drop 2: Pretty much identical to the Neo version I think.

Metal Slug: This is a great port of this game. Much better then the Playstation version and I've also heard it is even better then the Neo CD version. Load times are cut to a minimum here and most of the animation is intact from the Neo verison. Wonderful Port.

World Heroes Perfect (Japan only): Never played it.

Fighters History Dynamite (Japan only): Never played it.

Magical Drop 3 (Japan only): Never played it.

Samurai Spirits RPG (Japan only): Never played it

Waku Waku 7 (Japan only): Never played it.

Galaxy Fight: Never played it.

Ragnagard (Japan only): Never played it.

Sonic Wings Special (Japan only): Never Played it.

Voltage Fighter Gowcaiser (Japan only): Never Played it.

Stakes Winners (Japan only): Never played it.

Stakes Winners 2 (Japan only): Never played it.

Srtikers 1945 1 and 2 (Japan only): I know there is 1945 1 and there is a sequel (Which I have played). I heard the Neo verison is like a combination of the two games or something. I could be wrong though.

Twinkle Stars Sprites (Japan only): Never played it.

Also Collections of Neo Ports exist: There is a King of Fighters Collection for Saturn containing KOF 95,96,97 in one package. There is a Real Bout Fatal Fury Package containing Real Bout Fatal Fury and Real Bout Fatal Fury Special. Also, there is a Samurai Spirits collection containing Samurai Spirits 3 and 4 (All games only in Japan).

---------------------------------------------

Sony Playstation: Check the review section on this site. It contains most Neo ports for Playstation.

Magical Drop 2 (Japan only): Never played it.

Magical Drop 3 (Japan only): Never played it.

Sonic Wings Special (Japan only): Never played it.

Double Dragon (Japan only): Never played it.

King of Fighters 95: Pretty good port. The usual loading times between fights. Some missing frames. Still looks nice. Controls well and plays well.

King of Fighters 96 (Japan only): Never played it.

King of Fighters 97 (Japan only): Pretty close to the Saturn version. Load times are similar also.

King of Fighters 98 (Japan only): Good port. the load times are better than last years version. It plays great and the control is very responsive. Good port. If you can get the Dreamcast version, get that instead.

King of Fighters 99: Not a bad port. Nice graphics and good sound. missing frames as usual. The loads times are about the same as KOF 98. You can pick this up for $10 now. You could always get the dreamcast version instead though.

King of Fighters Kyo (Japan only): Never played it.

Last Blade (Japan only): Never played it.

Metal Slug (Japan only): This port isn't too bad. Missing frames of animation of course. Loading happens while you play the game though. Otherwise, it's Metal Slug and very fun. Not as good as the Saturn version.

Metal Slug X: Good port. This one actually surprised me. I thought it would be a lot worse. Very good port.

Real Bout Fatal Fury (Japan and Euro): This one was another surprise to me. This is a good port. Looks good and plays good too. I was impressed with this one.

Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (Japan only): Never played it.

Samurai Spirits Fencing Pack (Japan only): Contains Samurai Showdown 1 and 2. Never played it.

Samurai Spirits 3: This is probably the worst port that the Playstation has of any Neo game. The controls are very unreponsive and it just doesn't play right.

Samurai Spirits 4 (Japan only): Never played it.

Samurai Spirits RPG (Japan only): Never played it.

Voltage Fighter Gowcaiser (Japan only): Never played it.

Stakes Winner (Japan only): Never played it.

Stakes Winner 2 (Japan only): Never played it.

Galaxy Fight (Japan only): Never played it.

Money Idol Exchanger (Japan only): Never played it.

Viewpoint: Never played it.

Strikers 1945: Never played it.

---------------------------------------------
Sega Dreamcast: The review section covers most Neo ports to Dreamcast. Dreamcast has the best Neo Ports available.

Twinkle Star Sprites (Japan only): Never played it

King of fighter 99 Dreammatch: Actually it's really KOF 98. The only difference being that the backgrounds are rendered in 3d.

King of Fighters 99 Evolution: This is KOF 99 on Neo. The only differnce being that the backgrounds are rendered here also.

Last Blade 2: Great Port. U.S version is censored though. Pick up the import instead.

Garou\Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves: Amazing port with exception of the sound glitch.

---------------------------------------------
Hand Helds:

Game gear has a pretty good version of Fatal Fury Special. I was pretty impressed when I first saw this game on the game gear. Samurai Showdown also exists. I played it once and it was pretty cool. There is a Bust-a-Move version for the Game Gear also.

I know the Gameboy has King of Fighters (I have no idea which one though) ,World Heroes Perfect, Bust-a-Move and Fatal Fury Special. Never played any of them though.

Check the review section for a review of the Gameboy Advance King of Fighters game. There is also a Dodgeball game on the Gameboy Advance too.

---------------------------------------------
PC: Yes the PC has ports of Neo games too. I don't know the full list of games. Perhaps someone else knows. Only know the following games:

Fatal Fury 3: Never played it, but easy to find and cheap.

Samurai Showdown 2: Never played it, but heard it is a very good port. Again, it is very affortable and easy to find.

Magical Drop 3 (Japan only): Never played it.

Bust-a-Move: Never played it

Bust-a-Move 2 (Japan only): Never played it.

King of Fighters 95: I heard it exists, but not sure.

King of Fighters 99 Evolution (Japan only): Never played it.

*There are more titles available then this I think*
---------------------------------------------
That's all I know about Neo ports. So there you go. I am sure everyone else will fill in the blanks where I don't know the answers to. I am sure I am missing quite a few ports on the list.

Hope this helps.
