I use a Gamepad for the Neo Geo, I suck wit' a joystick. So, I jus' use the CD gamepad instead of the joystick. But, let me hear your opinons.

I remember how i found difficult to play with a joystick too, but if you spend a small amount of time to master it, you start to understand that is a lot more comfortable with any type of arcade game!
I think that joypads are perfect for TYPICAL console genres like adventure games or rpgs, but certainly bad for arcade games like shooters, beat em ups and racing games that require a steering wheel ! :)

I can never pull many special moves. I jus' feel more comfortable with a gamepad. I use a gamepad with every system that I own. If I was more adjusted to the arcade type of configuration, then I might be better with a joystick. But, since I have PS2, and I don't have any arcades in my house, I'm jus' better with a gamepad.

I hated the joystick when I got my neo, but now ive mastered it and can never go back to gamepad for fighting games. I still have trouble doing the forward to down to forward moves but i'm sure i'll get over it. I think the neo joystick spoiled me. :)

Joysticks for fighters hands down.
Pads for other genres other than fighters.

For my Neo Geo gaming (and Supergun gaming in general) I use only joysticks (old style, new style, doesn't matter).

I could never get used to the Neo Geo control pad and I don't really feel like using a modded Saturn pad or whatever.

on the neo - joystick except for shooters, side scrollers where you need to rapidly press just one button (metal slug etc) although i do prefer to use the DC joystick for the game Ikaruga.

moves that i find easier to do with a joystick:
half circle moves
charge moves
arial moves

I have problems doing Forward,Down, Down-Right commands, also, I have a hard time trying to pull the DM's in KOF. I can never get into using the joystick. I jus feel more comfortable using the Neo Geo CD gamepad for my games then the old-style joystick. I jus' like having a small sleek controller, not a controller that you have to use a table to play on.

I prefer a joystick for all Neo Geo games. They all came out on MVS and were intended to be played on the MVS button layout. I do not own a cabinet, hence I use a mas systems pro stick. It does not come any closer.

At one time, I prefered a pad, but my opinion on that matter changed when I got a home cart system. Before I owned a home cart system, I used to balk at the commands for Neo Geo fighter SDM's. "How are you supposed to pull that off on a pad?" I would ask myself.

The answer, of course, is now obvious. You were never intended to. Neo Geo games were made to be played with a joystick--end of story.

Most people feel that way. I jus' have a hard time pulling moves on a joystick, I can pull off SDMs on KOF with ease with the gamepad. Also, I jus' don't like having a big bulky controller that takes a table to play it on. I'm jus' better with a gamepad, nuff said. I know I would get my ass whooped badly at the arcades, because I suck ass wit' a joystick.

I prefer arcade joysticks for neo games and arcade games in general. I just finished building my custom stick today and i must say it is a lot easier to play my neo games with my arcade stick. The neo cdd pad just doesn't feel right. Plus i enjoy the sound of the microswitches clicking.

I prefer Joystick. To be exact, on my Neo MVS setup I prefer the Hori Fighting Stick. There isn't a better joystick availible for the Neo!

Stick all the way. I like having my fingers touch all the buttons, unlike a pad where I have to just keep moving my thumb around.

Joystick, for neo or any other system.

Pads cramp my hands, and I don't get the dexterity, accuracy, and precision that I do with a joystick. Its been that way for me since the NES Advantage back in '88

I love my Neo joystick. Took me few rounds of SS2 to adjust, but I was flowing soon there after. If my Neo joystick was a woman, I'd sex with it, thats how much I love it.

I tried to get into the stick since it's the way it was meant to be and my destiny and all that good stuff, but it's just that I grew up on NES, SNES, and Genesis playing with a gamepad. I've spent some time with the arcade stick, but I just don't think it will ever feel quite as natural as a gamepad.

It's like trying to learn to speak Japanese after growing up learning English.

Or maybe I'm just an old lazy bastard who is afraid of change .....

I agree! Depends on the game. I change back and forth all the time.

Same here, man. I grew playing the NES, SNES, and Genesis with a control pad, so that's why I better with a gamepad. I'm been playing with gamepads, since god knows when. I jus' started to play joystick jus' recently and I jus' can't into using a joystick for games.
