Its alright.
Animation is passible, story is fairly interesting (basically the story of Guts' life from childhood to present day), the dub is decent enough and its appropriately violent.
Some of the dialogue can drag on a bit, and it sufferes from Guts being way to 'unstoppable' for almost all of the 3 volumes I have so far. Only one foe has really posed a threat to him, so it takes the edge off the action sequences. You'll probably watch it because you really want to know just HOW Guts loses that arm and eye - I know i do (plese dont anyone spoil it for me OK).

Its not in the same legue of quality as Excel Saga or Dai-Guard, but then again, they are totally different types of anime anyway.

Personally, I think Berserk is a lot better than Excel Saga. They play off ES as some hilariously funny show, which it's not. It's enjoyable, but not so much as I find Berserk to be.

I do, however, wish the animation were a bit better on Berserk. There seems to be a lot of static images, if you know what I mean. It's got a really cool story to it, so it all plays out for the best.

You should definitely check it out.

I've seen all 25 episodes, and I think that it is a great series. the story and plot development are top notch, so the massive amounts of blood and violence in the action scenes aren't so gratuitous.

The series itself doesn't even break the surface of the expansive world present in the manga. It will leave you wanting more in the end, but unfortunately, I haven't heard of any definitive plans to make a sequel series. I still highly recommend checking it out.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll give it a try. I just ordered the first 4 volumes from Videogame Depot at $20 each. <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool]" />
