I'm a huge fan of the 80's myself. I was born in 82 but the 80's where the years i remember the best.

MOVIES:

Lost Boys(starring Keifer Sutherland and Corey Feldman) - I just thought the main Character Michael was the coolest when i was a kid cuz he was like the handsome rebel punk kinda guy. I wanted to be like him and get all the ladies and shit. When he turned into a vampire for like 2 minutes in the movie i just lost it, he was just so fuckin cool.

Legend(starring Tom Cruise and Tim Curry) - yeah its got fairies and dwarves and shit in it but i'm no sissy, i just i love fantasy stuff. I can quote like this whole movie cuz i've watched it so many damn times. last month alone i watched it like 20 times. and the month before that i watched it like 30 times. I just think that Tim Curry played his ass off as "Darkness" and the makeup they used to make him look like the devil was superb. I also bought the special edition DVD when it was released

Legend(starring Jennifer Connely and David Bowie) - yup more fantasy, but this one is different! It has David Bowie!!! I'm a big time David Bowie Fan. Its kinda childish cuz it has muppets but I loved it so much as a child that i still ended up liking it now that i'm 20.

Purple Rain - I love prince's music(suprised aren't ya). Purple Rain is like one of the all time greatest movies of the 80's. The soundtrack is too. His music is like no other. Its just way different and thats why i like this movie.

Cat People - I loved this movie since i first saw it. I am just fascinated by Lycanthrops. This movie was also wierd and different that most movies i've seen so thats why i liked it so much.

SONGS:

Art of Noise - Moments in love. This song is prolly the seminal love song of the 80's. I bet some of you who are younger than me were concieved when this song was playin, heh. If you ain't heard it or don't remember it then DL it, i think you'll like it.

Prince - The Beautiful Ones. This song is just like..... AWESOME, that is if you like prince. They played this song at the end of Purple Rain and it would send chills down your back when you heard it.

Axel Foley's theme from Beverly Hills Cop. This is prolly one of the most rememberable songs of the 80's. It was one of those songs that sparked all the synth pop stuff like Eurythmics and others. It was definitely ahead of its time.

Spandau Ballet - True. This is another big time love song that was a chart topper in the 80's. I love this song to death cuz it sounds like nothing i've ever heard before. I swear my kids are gonna be concieved to this song whether they like it or not(as if they had a choice :p )

Sade - Smoothe Operator. I'm the biggest Sade fan in the world. This is the best song of the 80's, nuff said.

I bet alot of the shit i listed that i like suprised some of you. I don't seem like the "love song" type of person but those usually are my fav songs. I'm still a badass though. Don't think for a minute that i'm gonna act all soft around here cuz i'm still the same old SNK Souljah SPINMASTER X, ok.

Ha! Sade and Grace Jones were what I considered as "sex on a mic." I guess a lot of you wouldn't really want to think of grace jones that way, but she was definitely sexy. A woman like that would teach you a lot about yourself.

HAHA, Grace Jones may have looked like a wild warrior nutcase but she has a long slender nubile shape that i'd like to slam hard.

I'd hit it hard(well maybe not too hard).

BTW, the movie you're thinking of here is Labyrinth... ;)

As for me, my favorite movies from the 80s are:

Conan the Barbarian: - one of my favorite movies of all time, and definately Arnold's best work. The special edition DVD that came out has a lot of neat extras that show just how much went in to this film to keep it from being your typical cheesy fantasy movie of that era.

Empire Strikes Back: - easily greatest of all the Star Wars films to date. This one really showed that Lucas is best when he lets another director (one with actual talent) take the helm. Light years ahead of the Attack of the Clones crap we were subjected to earlier this year!

Revenge of the Ninja: - the absolute best of the ninja movies that were popular in the early 80s! My friend and I used to watch this one constantly, and it still holds a special place in my heart even today - one of those movies I can recite line-for-line along with the characters on-screen! Remember, 'only a ninja can stop a ninja...' :D

The Howling: - I love werewolves, and you won't find any movie featuring them better than this one! The transformation sequence is still the best I've ever seen, even by today's standards, and shows just how good a werewolf movie can be when given the right cast, budget, director, etc. It's too bad the series took a nosedive after this one... :(

Transformers - the Movie: - Incredible! I remembered being dazzled by this one as a kid, and watching it constantly when I picked it up on video (never had the pleasure of seeing it in the theater). The soundtrack is a classic too, and I still pop in the CD every now and then for some nostalgic fun!

As for songs...

"Hail and Kill" by Manowar - the band that started my love affair with heavy metal also gave me one of my all-time favorite songs EVER! Pure power, not for whimps and posers! :D

"Believe" by Savatage: - Picked up their "Streets: A Rock Opera" album after being pleasantly surprised with their previous outing (I had bought it based on a Columbia House "Pick of the Month") and fell in love with it right from the get go. One of the best of the "concept albums", the final song is both beautiful and haunting, and is still their most requested song ever.

"Hallowed Be Thy Name" by Iron Maiden: - So many great songs, it's hard to choose just one. However, Hallowed Be Thy Name is everything a Maiden song should be - pure Power Metal that blew away almost everything else from that era (and still rules over most of the crap that passes for "metal" these days).

"The Idol" by W.A.S.P.: - The other great "concept album" of the 80's, "The Crimson Idol" was W.A.S.P.'s greatest achievement, and this song is what brings the whole story of the album together. All the themes, all the various threads running through the story are finally made clear in this emotional and heartbreaking piece.

"Keeper of the Seven Keys" by Helloween: - The last song of their two "Keeper" albums, this 13 minute epic was one of songs that helped shaped European power metal. Great vocals, great instrumentals, these albums would go on to help revolutionize the metal scene for many future bands. And indeed, many of it's members have been influential in numerous metal bands popular today (Gamma Ray, Iron Savior, Primal Fear, etc.).

You know... looking back at all this, the 80s were one of my favorite times, as far as music and cinema went. While we may never get them back today, the feelings they bring back are only a CD or DVD away... ;)

I can't believe no one has mentioned fucking RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK or RAGING BULL!

But here's my list, anyways:

JUST FILM
1. Brazil
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark
3. Raging Bull
4. Ran
5. Amadeus

JUST 80'S
0. The Wizard ("California...")
1. Back to the Future
2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
3. The Princess Bride
4. Ghostbusters
5. Labyrinth
Honorable Mention : Scrooged (Did anyone else actually sing in the theater at the end?)

Songs: Ummm, everything by Billy Idol, Tina Turner and Depeche Mode (Even though Policy of Truth is 1990, I think...Damn!)

EDIT : I just noticed someone mentioned Revenge of the Ninja. I have never laughed so hard at a movie since The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2. PEOPLE DIE WITHOUT EVEN BEING TOUCHED! It's hilarious. Not good, but hilarious.

I should have added this. It's one of my all time favorites. I have it on VHS and DVD, and a poster for it from France (which is actually in French) - I know that there are action figures, and no I don't have them. I love the movie, but I don't buy toys anymore. ;)

Ah, my friend, but you've only scratched the surface.

There are so many errors in this movie it's not even funny; but to me it's all part of the charm.

Watch it about 30 or 40 times and you'll see what I mean! :D

Songs:

Van Halen - Hot for Teacher (This, to me, is one of the coolest songs ever written. I mean, who hasn't had the hots for one of their teachers?)

Michael Jackson - Thriller (Basically sums up all of pop in the 80s. Not to mention, it has a nice thumping bass line.)

Metallica - Master of Puppets (This song is just perfect, and goes along with a perfect album. Too bad people are obsessed with this new shit they're putting out.)

Cacophony - Speed Metal Symphony (Collaboration between Jason Becker and Marty Friedman. It's absolutely astounding. You have to hear it to believe it.)

Slayer - Raining Blood (Best thrash metal song ever. It's impossible to be a fan of the genre and not have heard this song hundreds of times.)

Films:

The Terminator (One of the best movies I've ever seen. Good story, and well executed. Not to mention the classic "I'll be back" line.)

The Lost Boys (I can't ever watch this movies without being brought back to the 80s. The music, the dress style, and... umm.. vampires, yeah.)

The Karate Kid (My ultimate movie. I can watch all 3 of them over and over again. I have no idea why. It just has a strong appeal on me. Mr. Miyagi fucking owns too!)

The Running Man (Another Arnie movie I love. Classic lines all throughout the movie, along with some cool action.)

Beverly Hills Cop II (I like the second one the best out of the series. Big bad Axel Foley comes back to avenge his friends. Great theme song too.)

Fuck, this is a real hard one, considering many of my fave movies and bands are from the 80's already...

So this list is by no means difinitive.

Movies:

Escape From New York - Maybe the best action film of all time, and definitely the coolest anti-hero since Mifune swung a katana as the legendary Sanjuro. A GODLY film.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - C'mon, it's the best adventure flik ever.

Big Trouble in Little China - Look at my AV and know how I feel about this one.

The Howling - Best Werewolf film; the scene where 'Eddie' becomes a hulking beast and slaps the gurney across the psychiatrists office ownz.

Robocop[/i] - 'Nuff said.

Now, I've barely even scratched the surface here, most of my favorites come from the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Songs:

Stone Roses: She Bangs the Drums - Such a great song, a classic.

Siouxie and the Banshees: The Passenger - I know the Iggy Pop version is the real classic, but Siouxie's ver. is my favorite. LOVE the video as well.

New Order: Round and Round - Just a great 80's synth/dance song.

The Smiths: The Light that Never Goes Out - Such a classic

Depeche Mode - Not Tonight Another awesome song with a sence of romantic urgency I just still love to this day

A Christmas Story.

Music:
Judas Priest - Painkiller. The whole album. Yeah yeah, it came out in '90, but it was written in the 80's, bitch.
