I am intrested in buying alot of shooters for my systems. I am talking about shooters like Raident Project, Radiant Silvergun, Ikagura, Gunbird. Anything vertical or horizontal scroller.

What shooters do you recommend? or do you have links to resources with shooters? I am ok with Imports. I have modded PSX, DC, and Saturn.

Do not overlook Mars Matrix for the dreamcast.
One of the best shooters ever; possibly the most replay value in a shooter ever, also.

Mars Matrix is O.K., but there are some better titles such as:

Donpachi (Saturn import)

Dodonpachi (Saturn import)

Radiant SIlvergun (Saturn import)

Ikaruga (Dreamcast import)

If you're into old school kind of good shooters, I'd recommend Gradius 3&4, but I'll warn you it's very hard.

The only problem i have with Don + DoDon is that they're way too easy.

Mars Matrix is quite the challenge!

Get yourself Zero Gunner 2 for the DC. You won't be dissapointed. And it looks fantastic on a vga box.

Yes Mars Matrix is challenging, but to an almost anal degree. I mean I like the whole throw your bullets idea, but there's no way to charge your meter up any faster (example: better skill or shooteing better) and just when you almost have it charged up, you die. Plus there is a delay when you press the bomb because you have to hold it in. Where as in Donpaci and DoDonpaci, the bomb goes off right away.

They are not too easy, they are easy-normal which is fun. I enjoy these games because they are nice plow through titles especially with two players. I mean Mars Matrix is good but why play it when there is better games like Radiant SIlvergun or Ikaruga?? Now there's some stellar titles.

Oh yeah, here are some good places to check out shmup reviews.
<a href="http://www.classicgaming.com/shmups/index2.htm" target="_blank">Xenocide Files</a>

<a href="http://www.starbase299.com/" target="_blank">Starbase 299</a>

Other shmups I'd recommend for the Saturn:
Sengoku Blade 2
Thunder Force V
Kingdom Grandprix
Gunbird

Mars Matrix slams enough replayability in it to warrant playing it. After you unlock stuff...you can pretty much customize anything...

Like how fast the bomb charges up...

Yea, but the credit amounts for such things are quite insane, plus the pre-rendered look kinda hurts the game. Sprite based shooters or real-time 3D rendered look a bit better.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good games and all, there is just games I enjoy quite a bit more for the time (like good old Radiant Silvergun <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool]" /> )

Raiden Fighters 2. God I love this game. :) Oh, and the usual suspects that have already been listed.

Oh, Mars Matrix is tough, but not too tough. I find that I never actually use the bomb function of the black hole, I just use it in tiny bursts for the invulnerability that follows afterwards.

Gradius Gaiden also kicks a whole lotta ass. I just picked it up courtesy of 16-bit and the game smokes...actually a much better game than either Gradius 3 or 4. Sexy Parodius and Salamander Deluxe Pack rock the house too.

32-bit was a damn sweet time for shooters. This genre just gets smaller in the rear-view mirror every day. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

That's about the only gripe I have with MM. It looks a lil' washed out, but not too bad IMO.

Other than that, I agree with Kid Aphex, Mars Matrix definitely is the shooter with the highest replay value ever. I like the shop concept.

Saturn has alot of good 2D shooters, and a few on PSX... The Duo also has a bunch too!

So damn true :) Plus, good thing is about GG is you can find the re-release if you can't track down the first print-run.

Don't forget Zanac X Zanac, another worthy PSX import from Compile. It includes the orignal Zanac (with 3 different versions, as well as the classic 8-bit music), as well as the all new Zanac Neo, which is an interesting update to the original Zanac. I will say this though, Zanac Neo's an easy shooter to beat, but it's a difficult shooter to score really high in. If you like old school type shooters (think NES/Famicom, PC Engine-ish), this is a must own!

I recommend hunting arround in the Bargin buckets for Raystorm and Rapid Reload (If we are counting platform shooters).
##EDIT: just re-read the inital post and your'e not. So scratch Rapid Reload.##
And G-Darius is tops.
