Have any of you ever had friends screw you over with neo geo purchases? My friend is visiting Japan right now and I asked him if he could keep his eyes out for neo games for me. He wrote me an e-mail and told me to call him at a certain time on his cell because he would be out shopping for ps2 games. When I called he was in a game shop and he said he saw a KOF 97' Aes for roughly $35 and samurai spirits Aes for about $2 US. I of course asked him if he could pick these up for me and that I would paypal him with the cash immediately. Now I got an e-mail from him saying that he wanted me to pay him $120 for the KOF and $45 for the samurai spirits! I obviously told him no way, and that it is screwed up since he is supposed to be a friend and if I wanted to pay those kind of prices I wouldn't have asked him for the favor in the first place. Anyone else think this is screwed up? The games had no value to him until he obviously looked them up on the internet and realised they were worth more than what "I" paid for them. I mean, did he honestly think that I would be willing to pay the initial price and ask him to keep an eye out if they weren't worth it? Not to mention the expensive phone call I made. Oh well, I guess I will return him the same favor if he ever asks me to pick something up for him. Anybody else ever had the same kind of thing happen to them?

Those games are that cheap in Japan?

If they are I will not buy any games online for a while and save up, so I may buy them when I get there.

That's totally messed up. I don't think I'd call him a friend anymore either. Matter of fact, I'd give him another chance to sell me the goods at price, or maybe at $10 extra to make it worth his while (beer money for him or something). If he still wants to play the price jacking game, I'd cuss him out real good and tell him to lose my number and not call or come around anymore. It would suck, but some people will keep on trreating you like a chump if you let them get away with it that first time.

I had something similar happen, but on a different scale. I had a buddy go to Japan, and get his wires crossed in what I requested before he left. He thought I was looking exclusively for Neo CD games, and wound up passing on $10 home carts left and right! I wanted to strangle his stupid ass, but at least he picked up a couple of games for me on CD, and didn't charge extra. Still it sucks when you can't be over there yourself, and have to rely solely on the actions of another person.

I hear ya' buddy. I offered him a little more, and he hasn't responded to my e-mail. I told him that if he wants to play the money game, he can just sell them to someone else (I tried to word this nicely). I also reminded him that the carts wouldn't have even been in his possesion if I hadn't asked him to pick them up for me. I just think it is really screwed because I paypal'ed him the money as we were on the phone while he was paying for them in the store.

My father teach me this: “Who has a friend has a shit”

The prices are not screwed up but blatantly outrageous and offensive. $120 for KOF 97?
I got a mint one for 75. SS2 has a standard market price though.

1.- I won’t call him a friend anymore.
2.- I will not rely and trust him anymore (In fact I will not want him to buy anything for me at all, he could buy shitty stuff to get some profit)
3.- I will not do any favor to him again.

Oh well, maybe he thought you would be selling them at the higher US market, so he wanted to take his share... In adition, those carts are pretty big and maybe he prefers to save room in his luggage for his own games when he comes back (unless you prefered to pay the shipping cost of having it sent by mail directly). A trip to Japan costs a lot of money so that would be a way for him to cover a part of his expenses.

In any case his prices were way off, I could understand charging you a bit more for profit but not that much.

I have some friends that go to Japan from time to time to buy a shitload of games, both for themselves or to sell at other people here (in order to cover a bit of their own expenses there). Seriously, if they accepted everybody's request of bringing certain items for them, then they wouldn't be able to bring their own things.

Funny Story, the 6 slot cab I have now I was actually supposed to have 4 years ago. I was going to buy it from a local arcade and then my friend went up and bought it out from under. 4 years later he needs money and I'm still waiting for my cabinet. Now I have what should have been mine and my friend is in Japan and he still doesn't have my money. Serves him right! :D

Sub human scum! shame

I get most of the import stuff for my friends, so have had ample opprtunity to inflate the prices (I dont of course). But is it really worth a few extra dollars to lose a friend?

I had a droog once (ONCE) that sold me what I thought was an MVS Metal Slug cart, I mean the sticker said so and everything and at the time I didn't know about "Boots" how to look inside the slits for the Toshiba V-Numbers on teh Roms etc. Anyhow, my droog of like 6 years prior to this was moving away and wanted some cash, I figured I'd help the guy out. Instead of checking it right away, I went out partying with Jimmy all night as a going away thing... we even got some fine ass strippers up in the Holiday Inn Hotel room who made our night no doubt. smirk

Anyhowz... The next day Jimmy's high tailed it for Wyoming, and I woke up mid day to pop in my Metal Slug MVS cart into my Phantom-1 Converter (this all happend in 2000 when I had my 2nd AES system and the Converter was I believe the first edition of it... didn't even know about NeoStore at that time)... and Whammo! The game was not only a bootleg as I later found out, but it was a copy of a game I already had... Robo Army

Anyhow I broke the freckin' game in half with my trusty Tomahawk I keep close to my bedstand, and immediately looked up where he was going. Called his (Jimmy's) Cell phone number only to get "a not in service" message, and as time would show it I was given a bogus address for where he was going, though I do know he went to Wyoming. There's a part of me that wants to to this day "Storm Ride" my ass up there and look for him and beat the worthless shit out of him for such a back stab to someone who I thought was a friend... but I just don't see the point anymore. I'm hoping he got raped by some back woods Sheriff or something and got eye for a busted out brown eye. THAT WOULD BE JUSTICE THE FUCKIN' PRICK!

Friends? tickled HAH!

There is no such thing as Friends. Bunch of betrayals even after you've busted your ass helping them. Once that's done they give you the "Fuck You" and leave.

Friends my ass.

Sorry to hear that Res.

I wish what you were saying was untrue, but really... I can be so damn nice to people... and they will walk all over me. Friends... shit, I have had them stab me in the back so many times... and I am a good guy, I stick to my word and honor shit... treat my friends like family... sometimes even closer than that, tight you know?

In the end, I usually get screwed over by them and I am feeling like an idiot wondering why I care. Then... I can treat people like dirt and they will stick around forever... WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT!?

Fuck friends wink

Damn, you guys sound like you've got a swift kick to the teeth a few times too many. Sorry to hear it. :(

I can understand where you're coming from though. With me, I've lived in Louisville my whole life, and as a result it seems I pretty much know everybody and their cousin. But when it comes down to "true friends", people you can whole-heartedly put faith in not to take advantage of your kindness and to be there for you, I'd say I only got a handful of friends. And to a further extent, the only person I can call my best friend (and I usually hate slapping titles on people) as in seemingly having the exact same interests and ideas is The Reverend 330 Mega. Other than that, I can be at a party where I know everybody and suddenly feel totally alone.

I've found the best way to deal with friends or people in general is to just not put your ass on the proverbial chopping block if you can avoid it. In other words, don't allow yourself to get disappointed if they don't do favors for you like you would for them, or they tend to get loose-lipped with something you trusted them to keep private. Just move on. Find somebody else to hang out with. Life's too short to spend time hurting over the actions of another human being. Hey, we're all human and therefore not perfect, so shit's going to happen from time to time. Take your lumps when they come, dust yourself off, and move on. And who knows, maybe there's somebody out there you've unknowingly hurt to the same degree? Like I say, people generally don't fuck with other on purpose, people just get hurt over foolish human error.

Sorry if I got on my soap box there.

That is totally screwed up. When someone says they will do a favor, then need to follow through and not turn the favor into a chore. Your friend just sees the dollar signs and doesn't see the big picture. They didn't just lose the chance to do a friend a favor, but they also lost that friend's respect and trust. Money cannot buy intangible values like respect and trust.

I know what a friend is. I have some friends I still have since when I was four years old. This guy is no friend for sure. Tell him he's being an ass, get your shit for the price he paid and then don't bother talking to him anymore.

Hit him when he returns , he is a poor motherf***er , I will never do that to a friend , and I have never been betrayed.
I think you have to chose your friends better , but anyway , that could happen to anyone!!
