As time marches on (maybe I'm old - but I am only 28) I find myself becoming more depressed with the times. Things I missed from the 80's:

BBS's - These were friggen great. ASCII art, Warez, Message Bases, sometimes Chats, and most definately late night gatherings at Denny's.

Music - My favorite decade of music. Everything is so sucky now. Yeah, some good stuff did come out of the 90's like Sara McLachlan (sp). But the music today just isn't the same.

Computers - You had all these different computers with different personalities. Even computers like the Atari, Apple, and Commodore which all used the 6502 were so different from each other. And you always had a 'favorite' and rooted for it. Sticking up for it. You just don't get that today. Even Linux which is kind of 'competitive' with Windows is kind of bland.

Cars - I loved all those (albeit mostly POS) super lightweight super fun to drive hatchbacks. Cars like the Toyota FX16 and Suzuki Swift GTI. They were cheap, they were fast (for the time!)

Cartoons - Ahh waking up on Saturday morning to watch Dungeons and Dragons or any other cartoons - Thunder Cats anyone? A+. Also, Shogun Warriors on Showtime (remember them?) And the Smurfs!

Food - Is it just me or did food just taste better back then?? Or perhaps it was the decade of "I don't give a fuck if this will kill me, lay it on me baby cakes!"

I don't know. I don't want to say that I want to end my life or anything like that.
I just miss the 80's terribly... Sometimes I wish I had an aweful experience so that I don't long for those times...

What can I say? Nostalgia is a powerful force...

Fuck YEAH!!It's about time someone felt like me.But I'm 32 so maybe that's the thing.Someone's who's 20 or so wouldn't understand. The music today sucks soooooo much. And people don't know how to have fun anymore, everyone's too damn serious about shit.People had fun in the 80's because we weren't worried about Anthrax,or suing somone because they bumped into us in the grocery store.Or stupid shit like"bread-the lethal killer".We just didn't worry about it.I guess it was a "today"society, not one worried too much about the future(it showed by the amount of debt we left) Way more personality in the 80's also. Now it's just SEX,SEX,and more SEX.Yeah, sex sold in the 80's,but it was more creative vs.today.Look at Debbie Gibson vs.Britney.I don't need to tell you who's more talented, and who uses just sex-appeal to sell albums. Cartoons were cooler then too,I loved watching Underdog and Hong-Kong Phooey. And I still remember when I first opened my Commodore 64!!Anyway,just to let you know, you're not the only one who feels that way.

The 80s ruled for the fact that most of my favorte bands came out then (Metallica (old), Slayer, Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, etc). Also the style was very distinct. You will probably never see people with big poofy hair, tight leather pants with tons of makeup walking the street commonly. Video games were simple but fun too. Who could forget Double Dragon? Or all the NES games? Seeing the gameboy hit the shelves and wanting one so bad. It was the 80s where DBZ was introduced to me when I moved to Japan too.. ahhhh.. the 80s.. great decade there

I loved the 80's, especially the mid-late 80's. It was fucking awesome.

Or maybe I'm looking back with rose-tinted glasses, but I remember those wreckless days as some of my best ever.
If a genie came to me and said, you get to pick one day of the past to relive, I'd probably answer:

Give me a good ole evening in 1988 buddy.

Music hella rocked in this era! You got Springsteen, Jackson, even the infamous Milli Vanilli, Hammer, and Vanilla White! Don't forget that song "If You Leave" by OMD or "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister.

As for the 90's, that was a good time as well. I miss saying, "Come on man, it's the 90s now!"

But back to reality and time to put a spin on things, we can't live in the past... I've figured that out maybe not the hard way, but definitely not the easy way....

Hell yes, the 80's kicked ass. Better music, video games, and MOVIES. Cmon too many chick flick's nowadays

The NES was the best system ever IMO, it all went downhill from there. Overall, video games are getting worse. I mean, I walk into Best Buy and 50% of the games are EA Sports Madden 92,93,94,95,96,97,98,99,00,01,02.... and so forth

The cartoons were a lot better too (Thundercats).

80s music is by far my fav, you can tell all the singers nowadays are nothing but sex bombs or money hungry pigs, else the albums don't sell. Even today I still prefer listening to new albums by older singers such as Peter cetera and Rick Springfield.

I'm 31 now and that was when I was growing up in Taiwan, I went back this year and man, I missed the 80s in Taiwan too, including foods, people's attitude, fresh air, everything has gone for the worse, except it's more modern now. My fav noodle and pastry shops in prime commercial areas were all taken over by McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks, those corp bastards!

Yes, Anthrax was doing fine in the '80s. I'm more worried about them now...when was the last time they released an album? Actually, I like '90s music better. I listen to little '80s stuff now; there's some good rap, and some good songs I've hunted down like Paul Hardcastle's "19"...but my interest in music really took off with folks like Warren G and Stone Temple Pilots in '93 and stuff.

For all you people missing the '80s, why don't you pay a visit to Denver. Here you can still see plenty o' denim jackets, and bangs teased high. *gagging self with a spoon*

I do not miss the eighties. It mostly disgusts me.

My favorite portrayal of the decade was American Psycho.

If you haven't seen it you're missing out.

"Harold, you're my lawyer, so I think you should know... I've killed quite a few people."

"You are a fucking ugly bitch and I want to stab you to death and play with your blood."
(hey, hasn't he been in the War Room? )

Except for the cartoons, I prefer my life the way it is now! So, no, I don't miss the 80's (But I do miss Journey, and the glory days of Iron Maiden).

While I have the tendency to be a yesterday man, I don't really miss the 80s.

Of course they brought us great and timeless music, games (and food), but it was also the time when I was about to finish school, and that gives me no very good memories...

I started working in the second half of the 80s, and this (for me) was a very radical change compared to my usual activities before, so I needed some two years before I got back to "normal" again. I even narrowed down video game playing between 88 and 90.

I'm with Metal Slug here - I really, really miss the 70s. It was the time when I grew up, grammar school, first kiss, first visit to an arcade... Oh the memories...

Anyway... I shouldn't live in the past. At least I try.
