I just did, and I have one hell of a story to tell:
When I was going through security, one of the security people there asked if they could scan my backpack. They did, probably because it looked like it had anthrax on it. As it turned out, it was only dust (my backpack had gotten dusty from countless weeks of disuse).
Later, on the second part of my journey home, I went into the gate for my flight. As I stood in line, one of the guys at the counter announced that "due to new security measures, everyone in the gate will have to stand up, take their belongings with them, and walk away from the gate for a few minutes." My guess is they probably did this just to make sure that no one left any explosives or weaponry behind.
You have nothing to worry about, peterr928. All you have to contend with are long lines at the ticket counters and at security (unless you plan on flying into Reagan-National; they have a new policy in which all passengers must be seated 30 minutes before arrival).
The sad thing is I gotta do it all over again in two days, when I leave for Las Vegas.
