The game Dragon Quest Characters: Torneko's Adventure 2 Advance is a lot like Torneko: The Last Hope for PSX, or Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon, if you prefer.
This game stars Torneko, the shopkeep from DQIV. He basically goes out on various "fetch" quests that involve dungeon crawling and fighting various DQ mainstays, such as Slimes and Drakees. You also have to manage yourself, because you can actually get hungry if you're not careful. You can also sell the items you get in your store to gain money. These items include swords, cudgels, wands, and herbs, as well as fiery peppers that pack a serious wallop on foes. Which explains how Torneko gets those items he sells you
.
The gameplay is surprisingly addictive, and it includes choosing what direction you face in battle, so that your face is always to the fight. Also, you can drop items or throw them at your foes. The graphics are actually pretty good for a portable game, including the enemies. If you understand Japanese, so much the better, as you'll actually be able to understand the specifics of the game (such as what each item does; I know there are items that boost your msx HP by 5, and restore your "fullness").
In short, check this game out if you have a lot of time on your hands and/or a Kanji dictionary.
