hi ive just recently been interested in the GBA e card reader due to the NES games. originally i just thought it was some pokemon thing so i never really cared. but i think this nes games thing is too cool to miss but im wondering.

ive looked at ncsx and that japan nintendo page looking for japanese released NES card games and couldent find ANY is there such a thing? or is this a american only thing (yeah i doubt it but by the look of things it seems so)

im interested for sure but im wondering does anyone know if there will be any NON nintendo NES games? can this thing handle later bigger nes games?

i dont expect you guys to know everything and i know this is unrelated to neogeo..i just interested in buying this and im worried that im buying it for one of the features that wont really be well supported

do u think its a waste of money for someone like me who has no interest in pokemon or trading card games..but loves NES?

Well it probably WONT have non-nintendo NES games.
They can fit any size game onto cards, they just split the data onto different cards (the current ones take up 5 cards).

And the pokemon cards are used to play little mini-games (which dont look that bad, even if they are just for killing time).

And there are Animal Crossing cards that give you special things in the games like items and such.

Dont know about japanese things though, sorry.

Yeah, there are Japanese cards. Where to get them? I don't know, I've looked myself. I'd be less than honest if I said I knew if they were compatible or not (that is the Japanese eCards and a US GameCube...GBAs are universal so they'd have no problems) but yes to the question.

Well, it's a proprietary technology but it's not Nintendo's. I beleive the company is called Olympus Optics or something to that effect. So it's possible to see other companies bring out the cards.

The games would be limited to both the number of cards necessary (currently 1 for a Game and Watch game and upwards of 5 for an NES game) and the internal memory of the scanner. From what I gather the scanner can only hold 1 NES game, 1 Game and Watch game and 1 "tool" (pokemon, for example they have little applications like coin filppers for the card game, or what have you). So, I really don't think there'd be something SIGNIFICANTLY bigger than a NES game.

Definately a chance it'd happen.

Probably not. If I were you I'd go with Animal Crossing and the GBA link cable. The chances of the cable being used for other games is significantly larger than the chance it won't be. It's already used in PSO and Metroid.

If you don't have a GameCube...then it's either a big risk with a smaller investment (eCard reader) or a small risk with a bigger investment (cube and AC). Personally I'd go the cube route if for no other reason than there are a lot of good Nintendo games out and coming out in the future where nothing else (other than the Game and Watch series and the second series of NES games) has been announced for the eCard reader.

Animal Crossing has all the NES games currently offered on the eCards plus many others...and you can play it on your TV or a VGA monitor, if you're hardcore.

But...the eCard reader could recieve games not in AC.

So, listen to your wallet is what I'd say, again, big investment/little risk, big risk/little investment.

Do what you think is best.

When the E-Reader was first announced, I remember reading an article that said only super small NES games could be ported to the device because of the E-Cards size restraints. Is this true? Couldn't Nintendo just use more cards for the bigger games and charge a little more?

Internal memory is the road block more than anything. I haven't found any reliable specs on the eCard reader but if it can only store one NES game at a time plus some extra, it must not be that big.

Unless they intentionally over write the old NES game because they don't want to have to write a program that lets you choose which game you want to run, or maybe curtail some strange piracy angle they see happening.

But the GBA also has internal memory, so the combination of the two may be able to get some bigger games.

Who knows.
