now that the DC is "dead" i think its a kick ass system! Do u think it will live on? specially now the fact that people can produce there own games for it with the DC coder or whatever its called? and i know it has a strong following of fans still cuz i know people that love the system to death.

or do u think it will just die away and dissappear and no one will speak of it much again?

i think it will live on! the system rocks. and hopefully some people that are good at designing games and crap will make some good stuff and release it for the system!

The DC has a huge following, especially with hardcore fans. I would say the majority of Neo owners here also own a Dreamcast.

It also has a solid community dedicated to emu, and homebrew games. I think the system will have a dedicated following for years to come.

This is the main reason I'm stocking up DC games like crazy lately, most of the games aren't even opened yet. I can see a few years down the road, DC will be among the most sought after system like Neo-Geo and PC-Engine today. Sadly, it'll also be the last real gamer's system, from now on all successful systems will be based on hype and marketing muscle.

The dreamcast has a number of good games that can't be match by many supports. Now that games will not be released any more, it collecting life can begin!

I completly agree, gameing is now a popuparity contest. You have to wade though piles of crap to find any good games. I think the DC will live on for a long time with many home brewings, and possibly people porting gaames that are good on other sys's . I Have more games for my DC than I think I will for any other system ever!

because it's dead, you're now saying it's a kickass system? if more people had realized how kickass it was when it launched, it wouldn't be dead.

its afterlife should be fairly strong considering the popularity of the saturn before it.

In all honesty I think the PS2 WAS a hype, for awhile, but right now with all the recent good games that has come out, it actually lived up to the hype it received at launch time.
Just look at Metal Gear Solid 2.

The DC is a kick ass system with a lot of great games.I will never forget that console for a long time even though i just invested on a ps2.

I will always remember the time i lived with soul calibur's hype or the "must get for holiday season",crazy taxi back then.It was fun and thrilling then. And the year 2000 was arguably the DC's best year with tons of great fighting games and many other games.2001 was DC's worst year though :(

DC is an awesome system, with a great variety of games. I am somewhat glad it is dying, though, 'cuz now I can get all the games I wanted at reduced prices... I think people will probably start Dreamcast collections just 'cuz the games were so good...
BTW, how do you get Windows and Linux on a DC?

Personally, I'd like to see the DC supported by independent developers, much like the Jaguar is now (to see what I'm referring to, check out http://songbird.atari.net/ . I think it'd be great, and I'd love to be able to do some myself, if I had the time...

Everything mentioned above is true about the dreamcast, and it will be destined to live as an orphaned niche hardcore system, adored by collectors and Sega Fans.

I think it will go the way of Saturn, with prices on games reaching abnormal levels in 4-5 years.

One interesting thing about the DC is that not all the great games can be found only in the U.S. or JP. There are a few European games to complete your collection, such as Shenmue II, Headhunter, and Evil Twin. Not too many systems have EUR only exclusives like that.

Dreamcast rocks! I think it will definitely live on. It will be a very collectable system like the Neo. Maybe not as valuable but a lot of people will be able to afford to collect the games. Check out the Dreamcast Collector's List I have posted at http://www.trugaming.com

dc rocks and i didn;t say i liked it cuz its dead to whoever said that i just missed worded what i was trying to say dickknob. anyway i am going to try starting some homebrew projects with a few of my buddies. possibly an action/adventure rpg like secret of mana and secret of evermore. goin to try and not make a total rip off of it but take the formula of the type of game it is and then start from there. cuz i like the dreamcast and what we are doing might not be much might not be anything but were goin to try and help keep it alive like others are doin

First off, I personally consider the Dreamcast to be the greatest console of all-time. I know a lot of people also hold the system in high regard and feel it's hardcore fanbase will ensure that it's legacy will live on for years to come.

I agree with many others here, the DC is a fantastic console with tons of great games. Since it has a large library of great games, it will never "die" for me. If by that you mean will new game releases end, I think thats mostly the case . . . very few new games will come out in the future. But there are so many great games out for it, I'll have enough to play for many many years to come . . . :) :)
