With the way the Shenmue II for Dreamcast sold there's no way that they won't make another one. It was a seriously huge release, even in Europe.

Somehow I always thought 16 episodes(or whatever the plan was) was a lot for a game. I just hope it doesn't get axed in the middle. Shenmue 2 came out 1 yr after pt 1. It has been 1yr since 2 came out and all we have is a update on the XBOX. Is pt 3 even in developement? And why the XBOX exclusive? Do they want to kill Shenmue?

That would be a huge mistake on the part of the developers. It's already sold wonderfully, and the X Box sales won't come anywhere near what they did for the DC.

Just watch..

Sega will pull a console whore QTE move on us and put 'Mue III on PS2 or something.

Just wait.

We'll have to own 3 different systems to play the whole series.

You only need one console to play Shenmue so far.

I doubt that.

Multi platform.

By the time it's done we'll probably have a new Generation.

If you want all of DOA you have to have 3 consoles

I think the death of the DC really slowed things down. They had the engine done, they were just going to tell the story in it. I had heard they were planning on releasing two chapters a year. I think the moving to X-box took a lot of time and development, but now it will probably continue the saga for a while on that platform... and now that the engine is done and ported it should move smoothly. Will we see two episodes a year? Doubt it, but we should atleast see a few more.

When the first Shenmue was being developed, some of the screenshots relesed were actually from the sequal - which suggests that Shenmue was actually going to encompass all of the first game and (at least) some of the sequal.
It seems as though - rather than constantly delay Shenmue's relese - they just tidied up the first part of the game and relesed it. This meant that half of Shenmue 2 was already near-finished (hence the comparitively short development time).
Now, presumably, they have to start from scratch, no leftovers from the last game, which will mean Shenmue 3 will take a long time to develop.

Don't hold your breath.......

I also think it would be commercial suicide for Sega to make it an Xbox-only game.
The Xbox only got the game due to a Microsoft bribe, and all terretories with slow Xbox sales (Japan and Europe) had the DC version anyway. But if Yu Suzuki insists on making Shenmue 3 an Xbox-only game, He may never recover the development costs in game sales (especially in Japan where sales would otherwise be strongest).

The Gamecube seems like a more sensible choice. Stronger Japanese sales and decent enough worldwide sales.

The series will continue, but I think it will be out in 2004 at the earlest.

Will the Series continue on X-box? The sales on Shenmue 2 port+ will give Sega an idea...

That would suck if the series dies. Shenmue was a great game, and a good idea, and I would love to see it continue. I read somewhere that one of the Microsoft guys absolutely loved Shenmue and that is why they fought (paid?) to have Shenmue II on the Xbox, so maybe if it does well, they can get the third one as well!
