I've never really been much into importing until recently, but now I'd like to know where any good import game stores in the Manhattan area are. Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys

I've been down to J&L games (I believe on Elizabeth). The selection is pretty good but the prices are a little high. Especially on neo-geo games.

Sure bro. Go to Elizabeth Street off of Canal in Chinatown. There's a big store called JNL http://www.jnlgame.com/ they have a lot. There is another store in this underground mall on the otherside of the street. They have a smaller selection but they do have better prices (at least for DC and Neogeo pocket)
The best arcade in NYC is nearby on Mott street off of Bowery. It's called the CHinatown fair. They have 8 or 9 MVS machines with KOF95-2001 as well as many more games.
Another store is Multimedia 1.0 http://www.multimedia1.com/
on St. Marks in the east village they are also expensive but you can get some good deals on Saturn and Jaguar stuff. They have just about everything except NEO homecarts

If ever you wanna chill at the arcade let me know. I'm Brooklynskin83 on AIM.

Take it easy

hahahah, there's like 20 of the exact same store down in that mall. funniest thing i've ever seen.

there's also a fairly large store near st. mark's (can't remember where exactly - i'm sure someone here from the city would) that has a lot of stuff for tons of different systems, import and domestic. their prices are a bit high, but they've got some obscure stuff. i just wanted to move in when i was there.

I have been there twice now, here's the scoop

J&L, back when I visited NYC in 1996, they only had one main store down in the basement mall on Elizabeth St, there were 2 other stores and supposedly, these are owned by the relative of Leslie (boss of J&L). One of the stores in the basement is Penguine Village where I got a brand new copy of Metal Slug X import for $200 (this was back in 1999), I used my credit card to buy the game, and they went to J&L to charge the card.

When I went back again in 2000, J&L opened another store right by the corner of Canal and Elizabeth, the store is much bigger and much more visible from visitors. In late 2000 when I went there, Leslie had over 100 home carts in stock, before you celebrate, look on the price tags first, some games are $500+ range. There's another import game store closer to McDonald, on the 2nd floor of the Chinese shopping mall, I don't think they carry home carts but they do have some NGPC stuff.

Another cool store is Multimedia1, I know the manager, Greg Wilcox, who frequent my TurboGrafx club, he normally works there during the week and is very cool, should talk to him in person. I didn't know Multimedia1 stopped carrying NG home carts, back in late 2000 they still have quite a few in stock, but they have pretty much everything else from Odyssey to current systems.

The other good place I can think of is Game Express on 32nd St (the one right in front of Madison Square Garden), no NG home cart (they used to, got some from there) but good selection of DC games, including rarer domestic DC titles, I believe they still have some NGPC stuff there.

Damn I wish I'd known about all those places in China Town when I was staying in Manhattan.

I was living down on Grand St. and it wasn't that far to walk to China Town, I just never bothered.

Isn't there (wasn't there?) a place on Broadway near Times Square? Y'know near XS arcade?

BTW - is Kim's Video & Music still over at St Marks Place?

*sniff* I miss the Village and British Open

Um XS Arcade is gone and Kim's is still there. St. Marks comics is still there and that very small videogame shop(has tons and tons of rare games and systems) is also still there. NYC is the greatest.....no other city can compare to it!!

XS is gone? :(

I used to swing by there all the time when I was bored. Still have their charge card thingy for paying for your credits...

Oh well....

Any new Arcades in that area?

I didint like XS due to their lack of fighting and SNK games. Broadway City is better.

Also, an NYC gathering would be hot. Keep me posted.
