Ok resident movie buffs, let's hear your picks for the best movies of the 90's.

I tried to pick movies that excelled at qualities such as: Screenplay, Performances, Emotional Impact, and Direction. CGI and SE are supplemental and IMHO are not the most important things to a movie. So there is no Independence Day on this list, Get it?

--Good Will Hunting--

My favorite movie of the 90's, and one of my top 5 favorites of all time. Outstanding performances all around, with Robin Williams proving once again that he is better in a dramatic role than in a comedic one. I can summarize this movie with a word: REAL. The issues dealt with here, like Class Structure, Relationships, Friendships, EMOTIONS, all of it, real, real, and real.
I am able to connect in some way, to all of the characters in this movie, especially Will's group of friends, I mean, Friends ARE LIKE THIS! Tight. Highly recommended, see it if you have not.

--Gattaca---

Could this be a movie that was made as a Science Fiction film, but turns into a modern documentary? Possibly. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall an employee of Burlington Northern Railroad Co. was denied workmens compensation for a form of sever carpal tunnel, due to 20 years of using a jack hammer working on the RR system, because the company presented a DNA test that they say proved this man was prone to developing this injury, so BN isn't responsible. I think the case is either over or ongoing, but regardless, this is scary shit. Who wants to be DNA tested for a job? Not me.
This movie is flawless in its delivery, I can find no plot flaws at all, quite impressive. Meticulously detailed with awesome scenery and shots. I think this movie has something important to say, and everyone should see it.

--Natural Born Killers--

Not just another Action Movie. If you think this then you missed the entire point of the film. NBK boasts a much deserved mocking and satire of our news and entertainment media. It shows what lemmings regular citizens can be to whatever the current hype from the 'Media' says is cool or IN at the moment. The message here is just as relevant now as it was then. Sensationalism runs rampant on the entire news organization. Try to find one day where the news doesn't try to 'shock' you with some story. Media care less about the people that die for their stories, and more about which network can get the best header for the topic. Such as "Crisis in the Heartland" or "Terror at Twenty-Thousand Feet". You know what I mean.
I thought this film was fun to watch, with a great soundtrack, a unique style, and a relevant message.

--Boogie Nights--

I had to put this one on here just because it is so damn fun to watch. Great Music, costumes, style, humor, it's got it all. I don't think there's a real message here, other than maybe 'what makes a person a success?'. For instance, Dirk is the greatest porn star of all time, but that doesn't grant him any special privelages or esteem except in porn circles. Forget all that though, this movie is all about entertainment. Watch it and love it. Put it in at parties and people will watch it. It's pure fun.

Other movies that deserve mention:

Pulp Fiction
Trainspotting
Bram Stokers Dracula
Speed
Eyes Wide Shut

I'll let you guys name the rest.

For my FINAL in my Acting class last Fall semester, me and a friend had to pick a scene from any movie or play and perform on stage before our classmates and of course, the teach.
I decided to do a scene out of GWH. I played Will (Damon) and my partner played Sean (Williams).

I still remember practicing it and what not. It was an awesome experience for me.

"I'm not here for a fucking book report. They're your books, why don't you read them."

When we're practicing it in the theatre... a lady and several little kids came in. I stopped and said hello and whatnot.

"Are you guys done? Me and these kids got to practice."

"Oh... just 5 more minutes."

"Okay..."

So I go to do it.. and right in the middle of one of my lines, I realized the lady is sitting down behind me with those kids.

"Damn you lady" I thought.

I had to totally improvised...

"This is a real piece of shit" [in reference to Sean's painting] became "This is really bad", haha.

When Finals rolled around and we performed our piece, I'll never forget that rousing ovation the class gave us. Sweet.

In grade eight I made a movie called "Short Stack of Deception'. It was about a Midget Pancake cook who was a master of disguise and espionage.

It didnt make a lot of cash, but it was a great movie. We actually had to place shoes on my friends knees to make him look like a midget. Great fun. My pick for best movie of the nineties.
