Mortal Kombat: DA Thread

I'm really hyped about this game.
I played it at E3, and loved it.
And more recently, i played it at one of Nintendo's CubeClubs out here in phoenix.

Everytime i play it, the game gets better.
It does NOT have the fluidity or grace of a 2d fighter...at least not at first. But the more you play it, you realize this game actually has a tremendous amount of depth! especially for the MK series!


i got to play as one of the new characters, Blind Kenshi. He's ... well, blind. He uses telekinesis as a weapon, tossing his opponent around in mid air and slamming him into arena walls. the look is just too cool, and he's not THAT cheap, surprisingly.

some of the arena's look absolutely breathtaking guys. not as much the graphics, as the concepts. the level that takes place on the rocking boat, comes to mind. or the level that takes place on a platform, hovering over a cloudy void, wind sweeping about debris.

i just cant get over this game guys. im rambling and incoherant. it's too early. but i played it for about an hour+, so if anyone has any questions i could try to answer some of them!

Somebody ramble about the release date! It's changed about a dozen times... I'm looking at an ad that says it's 11/22, but I saw an empty box in Funcoland that was something like 11/13.

MK2, MK3, and UMK3 are some of my favorite games of all time, countless hours were spent perfecting my MK skills down at my local arcade.

Then MK4 came out and I lost all faith in the series, it was horrible, Midway completely destroyed the MK series with this sword swinging 3-D piece of crap.

It is good to see that they are taking another shot at it, and I want MK: DA to be good, I really do, but I have serious doubts. I'll give it a shot, at least it can't be as bad as MK4.

The release date is Nov. 22nd for sure, or, "fatality friday" as they're calling it.

the gameplay is much better than 4...
much better than 3 too, which i thought was garbage... <img src="graemlins/help.gif" border="0" alt="[Help]" />

and finally, much better than a few newer 3d games i can think of [DOA3, Bloody Roar]

I just want the old MK back, not some bloody version of Soul Calibur.

Oh well, at least I have Mortal Kombat Advanced. <img src="graemlins/eek2.gif" border="0" alt="[Eek 2]" />

I never liked Mortal Kombat.

At least MK is back to it's funny fatality roots.

Thanks... I'm looking at the screenshots again now, looks very promising. I don't see a complete character list on the site so I'll whip one up. I'm still missing at least 3 I think.

i really only loved MK2. it seemed like the perfect balance of goofiness and gore.

this game though....

Wow, I've never ever heard of the last 2 new ones.

Still got 2 weeks of time to kill. But at least once MK shows up, it'll make the wait for KOF 2K2 go faster.

Bo Rai Cho is a drunken beast. He's kind of chubby, and stumbles around like all drunken style fighters. he uses a simple staff/cane as his weapon, during his "weapon" style.


one of his moves is this vomit move; kind of like MK2's Sub Zero's Ground Freeze.


Nitara is just another chick. Pretty nice looking though I didnt get to play as her in the demo that was available.


To be sure, Scorpion is the biggest bad ass in the game with his ninja sword. i fought some guy who knew what he was doing as scorpion; he wasted my ass in a matter of seconds, switching styles on the fly from fists to Ninja Sword and back again. hmmm...my friend was telling me about this game (how great it was while he was playing it) but I though he was joking...I need to play it first before I buy it...but from what I'm reading (from you and gamespot, IGN), it sounds great ...

Sounds cool, I haven't played MK since UMK3(One look at 4 and I knew I didn't wanna play it) I'm hopeing that DA will bring some good back to MK plus I also wanna sharpen my sub-zero skills again

I have a feeling DA will bring back the respect the MK franchise lost with MK3/UMK3/MK4. Although I loved those 3 as well, most people thought they couldn't hold a candle to MK2. But from the looks of it, DA is easily gonna be a jaw dropper. With the promise of mind-blowing new finishers and the power of the current next-gen consoles, the fun we all experienced with MK1/2 almost a decade ago, just might return. I've even read on multiple gaming sites that DA has the best lighting ever to grace a 3D fighter.
