It sure looks neat.

"The top-of-the-line iMac, which will ship by the end of this month, will be priced at $1,799 and will include a drive capable of writing data and transferring video to DVDs, as well as a 15-inch screen and a G4 Power PC microchip."

The screen looks too small in proportion to the base, which, oddly enough, looks like an oversized plastic shower head...

I'm getting one for my kitchen in my new house. Performance and feature-wise, it kicks my cube's ass! I'm actually going to install an Airport wireless station on each floor including the basement. My plan is to get wireless 11Mb Internet service and if any of my friends or guests have a laptop with a wireless LAN card, they can just hook up while they visit. I'm also planning on setting up my wife with wireless on her laptop so she can compute anywhere in the house or yards.

Apple flat screens are some of the best in the business.

The next iMac is going to look exactly like the computers from "Brazil".

Invest in Fresnel Lenses now boys.

Uh, don't you peple see what's going on?

This new iMac is obviously the herald of a new age of intelligent robots, whose aim is to dominate and then enslave us!

Just look at it! It even looks like an evil little bastard.

I can hear it now...

"Please lay back and take your injection human" "Logic dictates that the human should be tranqualised when it does not behave"

Damn you Steve Jobs! Damn you to hell!!!

Ah, a plastic shower head. I see Apple technology is getting better by the day!

Ahh yes, the followers *cough*non-apple*cough* and the trailblazing innovators.. Apple.

So which side are you on?

I have to admit the design looks goofy, but the space saving feature is a great idea.

The only ? is: Is it worth $1700?

I am the most vehement anti-mac person you will ever find. At school one semester I had to work on the damn things extensively, and the pieces of shit gave me nothing but grief. I was taking a public speaking course at the time, and for my persuasive speech I spoke about the superiority of the PC to the Mac, and had plenty of back-up, including many independent magazine reviews. I got a PowerPC for free and sold it for $5. (I had changed that "little voice" to berate the comp). That buyer really got ripped off. If they hadn't bought it, I was going to drop it from a campus building for the sheer fun of it.

BTW, the school was smart enough to ultimately tear out the macs and replace them with some real computers.

The one-button mouse allows for easy pounding.

Well lets see you get $1700 worth of high quality colored plastic. So why wouldn't it be worth it?

I'm actually planning on getting either one of these or a Titanium G4. I've worked with Macs before, and I haven't really had any problems that could be attributed to the OS--and I've actually upgraded a 7200 to a G4.

My main reason for getting a Mac is that it's probably either that or suffer with XP, and getting XP is in my "not on your Nimda-infected, product-activated, Office-Assistant-Assisted life." It's supposed to be their most secure OS yet, but there have been reports of gaping holes, and as for Product Activation...

Well, suffice it to say that I do not trust any company that makes it so obvious that they think all their customers are thieves. Maybe if they were willing to take full responsibility for any and all downtime or damage caused by the design flaws in their OS, I'd be more forgiving of them, but for them to demand this much and offer so little, it doesn't work for me.

Windows is the Baywatch of operating systems (anybody who knows what world record is often associated with that show knows what I'm talking about).

Plus, MS makes many fine products for the Mac, and they're actually motivated to make the products better instead of adding in extraneous features because they think some out-of-the-blue product is going to attempt to horn in on their racket.

The only problem I have with Apple computers is that they are way overpriced. IMHO. And if you use an Intel/AMD based system you do have more choices than running Microsloth OS on it. I personally don't use Windows for much more that playing the multitude of games I already had. For everything thing else I run Debian Linux way more stable and secure than anythinig Mcrosoft can make. And the price is just right FREE!!
